Twin Peaks as two dusty bins standing in their accumulated dust. The correctly named America the beautiful, posted after Daylight’s time, is well concealed; cemented and locked in hidden history.

Maybe art B-) for arts sake is overblown and this site’s originator’s clearing mania may well have done us some favours with his biannual pruning carried out with a slick Dick Dastardly smile.

Bill Hartnell was possibly the oldest Doctor and some of the mountain scenes of the three; him and the younger couple, traversing out of harms way ( they kept looking behind ), and filmed on an unconvincing set, are maybe best committed to memory.

As for the infamous ‘Jellied Eels’ containing Ihaventalight’s obvious :yahoo: ( nearest to :double armbounce:) Essex lust for Kathy, and evidence of the Razor’s ever sharp and brutal edge in saucy murder by the sea Soufend – well the similarly slain Beatle may have been right; let’s vaporise history

The really tragic thing about me owning Hartnell videos is he wasn’t even “my Doctor” – Patrick Troughton is the first I actually remember watching.

    Twin Peaks?

    Now you’re talking!

That, Blue Velvet, Wild At Heart – David Lynch was a pleasingly disturbed fella.

    Ditto Dennis Hopper.

Videos? I haven’t even had the ability play DVDs or CDs for a good three years.

I do remember the later days of the good old VCR though, I’m not that young ;-)

My VCR is gathering dust somewhere, having eaten far too many of my VHS videos along the way, including my much treasured copy of “Day Of The Daleks!”

I (followed) Patrick Troughton through the streets of London one dark night. He had been sitting in the same London theatre as me, just a few seats away, accompanied by a woman. I followed him after the show – it was late and he was light of foot, a small man but quick on his legs. I got the feeling he was in a hurry, furtively looking behind at times to check no-one was tailing him. He was ( possibly ) out with Bunny his secret (companion). He had two lives (for many years). I didn’t know about (Bunny) and he didn’t know about a gumshoe and Dr Who fanatic who was bearing down on him. I finally got tired trying to get close and I was getting a bit lost in the side streets – so I let them go.
He died (of a heart attack )at 67 after ordering breakfast at his hotel. (
( Rumours surround his death ). Sentence deleted here.

William Hartnell died at the same age of 67 after suffering a final and last stroke. Both men were exceptional doctors. Troughton rather eccentric and he carried the role extremely well. If he had flopped it would probably have ended the Time Lord.

Hartnell was impressive and to my mind looked how doctor Who should look and his look was possibly copied in Back to the future by another Doctor – one Emmet Brown.

Pertwee was the first I remember and in fact used to have this jigsaw puzzle

Looking up I was only 3 when he finished playing Dr Who so doubt if I remember him whilst being the Doctor. Must have been repeats

Yes Pertwee was a good doctor and Tom Baker who came after brought a Roger Moore element to the role – he was quite humourous which was a change of style. Took a while to adapt to that but he was in the role 6 years.

I tended to stop watching it after Baker although Tennant is poled as the favourite doctor – I might go for Troughton.

I did edit my post out of fairness to the late Patrick. I don’t make a habit of following people just two as I remember; Troughton ( 5/6 streets ), and an ex chancellor of the Exchequer one lazy Sunday afternoon 2/3 streets.
I only thought to follow Patrick because he seemed in such a rush and well – it was Dr Who after all and I was a fan – who knows what that might have led to.

    P.S.

I also did not want to disturb ‘ there is only one Ian Davies’ first doctor memories.

“Considerate” is truly your middle name, gamble – when it suits you to be, that is!

It’s all down to opinions and possibly who your first Doctor was.

Took me years to get over my childhood resentment of Jon Pertwee after he replaced my beloved Patrick Troughton and it’s only really now I appreciate how good Pertwee was.

Tom Baker was widely acclaimed the best Doctor at the time and I really liked him, though less now in retrospect for some reason.

I had grown out of the Show from that magical childhood/youth perspective by the time of his departure.

I would actually rate Eccleston the all-time best Doctor as an actor, but like in racing it’s a game of opinions.

I once saw Sylvester McCoy in Euston station. The trains were all up the spout again and the concourse was full of frustrated people hoping the indicator board would show their platform.

Unfortunately for McCoy, a Dr Who geek spotted him and proceeded to have a one way conversation with him. McCoy was far more tolerant than I would have been but you could tell his patience was starting to fray!

I grew up in the Tom Baker/Peter Davison era and did not bother with it much after that. I have watched hardly any of it since the show was relaunched.

Tom Baker was one of Jeffrey Bernard’s drinking companions in the Coach and Horses. There is a clip of him boozing in the pub in an Arena profile of Bernard, in which Baker pities most people for leading lives of “annihilating boredom” and spoken in that marvellous voice.

That’s all very interesting ‘there is only one Ian Davies ‘- especially as you are the person who is reputed to nail things. It’s true I have become a bit dark and curmudgeonly of late – I must be going through my Troughton period. Maybe he left after two years because he did not want to be typecast – poor old son Steptoe – he could never take off his glad rags.

Yes I was an avid Hartnell and Troughton fan after them I watched occasionally. I can remember the silver suited Cybermen and the Toymaker and the Master and of course the unforgettable Daleks are most strong in the memory.

Troughton had an obvious talent and was very watchable
    – I can remember him in the Old Curiosity shop. He’s an actor I miss I suppose and that night I tracked his movements well I think we may have bonded in a strange way. It often happens when you disturb the pattern. !t was like me looking at him face to face. and shouting…

Interesting stuff Corky – very interesting and apologies for the trump !

Yes Baker’s voice – he once said that being Dr Who meant he could afford to take Taxis in London

My favourite Baker scene is in Robots of Death
Baker offers someone a jelly baby only to be told to SHUT UP!! and the packet of sweets knocked out his hand. I use to do the same to my brothers when asked if I’d like a sweet but soon got out of the habit when the offers dried up

Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart – ‘the brigadier’ – was an enduring character I found gently amusing, and a good foil for several Doctors, the Pertwee incarnation in particular. A splendid hamming-up of the plummy, over-confident, slightly dim but loyal and brave forces-type

Lost interest in it after Tom Baker’s bash, though watched the first of the revamped series this century with Christopher Eccleston: good enough but unsurprisingly the youthful wonder and joy was lacking

The Brigadier was outstanding – from The Invasion with Troughton in the 60s to Day Of The Daleks with Pertwee in the 70s, he was a tremendous character played brilliantly.
