Good Evening
I am looking forward to the festival. It will either go great or awful.
I have took a loan of £80,000 and I am putting £60,000 on Master Minded at 1/3 in the Champion Chase to make £20,000 profit.
I already have £200 on at 11/8 but I am so fired up over this I am going for it.
The misses will go ape if she finds out so shhhhhhh.
March 8, 2009 at 02:50 #214241I will be in the bookies shouting in front on the TV…. Come on the Master! Come on the Master!
Does anything think this is a save bet or am I in for trouble?
I am so confident and calm about it because my last 5 big antepost selections have all won which were New Approach (Derby), Yeats (Gold Cup), Duke of Marmalade (King George), Zarkava (Arc) and Kauto Star (King George). Sometimes I believe I cannot lose but I know the nerves will be creeping in nearer the race.
March 8, 2009 at 02:56 #214243If all five of your big ante-post bets won, why do you need to take out a mortgage to back Master Minded?
March 8, 2009 at 02:58 #214244I suspect you may have a gambling problem Allpress, the first two rules of betting are
1. Nothing is a certainty.
2. Never stake what you cant afford to lose.
The question you you should really be asking is
a) how fu*cked off are you going to be if master minde dis brought down by something else for example?
b) why dont you wish to tell your missus?
Most of us have been around long enough to see unbeatable horses beaten, and much as I fancy Master Minded to win I wouldnt put the mortgage on it. Plus who is going to lay off 60,000?
March 8, 2009 at 02:59 #214245Because a big antepost bet for me is £200-£400, not thousands. I don’t often bet in thousands but this time I am going to because I have been on about this horse since before last seasons Champion Chase. I am also on Mastercraftsman at 33/1 (Guineas) and Rip Van Winkle at 25/1 (Guineas), 16/1 Derby. I just had £70 on each of them so far.
March 8, 2009 at 03:00 #214246Good luck with that project.
March 8, 2009 at 03:00 #214247I was wondering what you plan to do with the other £20k?
March 8, 2009 at 03:02 #214248I was going to put a few thousand on at each bookmakers.
I have been a race fan since 1997 but now I am old enough to crack into a few. I know anything can happen which I don’t want to think about but I am just hooked on this horse winning this race. I am just so confident. I just hope my head is right and I get the result I am looking for.

There were quite a few of us who were on about masterminded since before last years champ chase but that doesnt mean we are willing to blow our mortgage on him.

Its also worth remembering that prior to last years gold cup, there were plenty of people who were on about Kauto Star since before the 2007 gold cup.
March 8, 2009 at 03:06 #214250I think you are certifiable, allpress1.

Previously profitable businesses can’t get loans to ensure their futures, but you can secure a loan of £80,000 for the sole purpose of placing a bet? I admit that you may not have divluged that fact to your bank, but did the incessent twitching and brief, yet frequent, glances to the betting shop across the road not unnerve them just a little?
Of course, your rather public admission begs the question – why didn’t you have your ‘£60,000 bet’ when Master Minded was 6/4? Surely, if you had been talking about him since last year, you would have been desperate to get on at as a big a price as possible?
March 8, 2009 at 03:32 #214257So when did Marble get a new log in…
March 8, 2009 at 04:04 #214264Tidal Bay’s gonna ruin your life just like he did to me last year when I had 40 quid on Noland (sounds like I’m joking but a huge bet for me and made me feel sick).
Start packing your suitcase, the rains coming!

Don’t let Allpress near Obama!!!
Sorry Allpress, private joke but:
I just can’t believe someone can be that naieve.Would you stake £60,000 on a 3/1 shot
not
winning?
Because that is effectively the same odds you are taking. In fact I do believe Master minded is a good value bet at 1/3. I’d put his chance at around 78% (2/7 chance). It is NO CERTAINTY. Bear in mind, even if it is a good value bet, it still has at least a 20% chance of LOSING!
Do you really want to stake £60,000 on something with a 20 to 25% chance of LOSING the lot Allpress?
If this is a serious thread, PLEASE THINK before you act!
May be even a 20 to 25% chance of losing your wife.
