July 13, 2007 at 11:26 #107680I take your point but I would say the trend is going more that way, rock of gibralter is another example and the principles for this year who ended up not getting there were precocious individuals. Im not trying to say i really like his prospects of winning the guineas, but I do think precocity at this stage is becoming less of a negative than it used to be.
July 13, 2007 at 14:32 #107714Precocious types like Winker Watson (terrible name for a prospective classic colt incidentally)
What?
I think its a fantastic name.

July 13, 2007 at 15:33 #107736Backed him at ascot and newmarket and on current eveidence looks a better prospect than obriens henry the navigator , however aiden is said to have a lot more 2 year olds with plently of ability.
July 13, 2007 at 15:46 #107743Why does covminiwrecker think that winker watson is a better prospect than henrythenavigator???

Just a case of him gving his opinion I think.
I think they are both fantastic prospects. Henrythenavigator looks more stoutedly bred than Winker. He looks likely to get upto ten furlongs and its not totally impossible that he could get a mile and a half he’s by a Sadlers Wells mare. The fact that he’s showed the speed he has over short trips at two would suggest he is very good.
Winker is more speedily bred I’d say its 50/50 that he will get a mile. He does look to me as though he needs seven furlongs now. Just my opinion. You listen to Chapple-Hyam speak its all Winker, Winker, Winker in just about every interview. I think he really thinks this horse is something special. He raves about him more often than he does / did Dutch Art.
July 22, 2007 at 15:10 #108826won well from what look an impossible position. I hear his next outing is likely to be the Prix Morny. I believe a Pascal Bary filly will prove too good for him there and his bubble may be burst a little.
…as the filly in question [Natagora] won today’s Prix Robert Papin [pushed out] but finished some way clear of Strike the Deal and Art Advisor, she should be rated above Winker Watson already I would have thought.
just to rub it in
