I am very new to the forum, albeit long time reader.
Found this the best forum to follow, for a number of reasons, but personally loved the write up each big race got before. I think it is Joe? Cracking write ups either way and i find them helpful as i dont always have the time to fully dissect a race, of which these tend to be written with a fair assessment of each horse.
It seems here people are open and bet without emotion most of the time, happy to hold your hands up if completely wrong about a horse. So sick of hearing people absolutely slate the jockey, because they picked the wrong horse.
Same as these other tipping forums who tip a horse in every race, every day! I mean anyone actually following these needs to give the game up quickly.
have friends and family who like a bet, but in all honesty if you were not allowed to bet, id imagine they would never watch the racing, so good to share some thoughts with like-minded people.
December 5, 2017 at 12:59 #1330493Steve is right. There is too much backslapping on here, you’re right about that, you’re right about this… gets v boring after a while.
I try to put up controversial views but get shouted down for it… time to get me coat
December 5, 2017 at 13:15 #1330496I don’t enjoy the back slapping either, competition like best poster is more a popularity contest than anything else; rather have someone’s respect and I’d hate to be popular. But it’s right people should thank others for their work on here and I suppose voting does give people that opportunity.
Room for everyone on here, Judge. So stick around. Nothing wrong with being “Controversial”, as long as it’s not just for controversey’s sake and you can back it up with statistics. Otherwise it comes over (and am not saying it is, just it comes over as) pocket talk and excuses for backing the wrong horses.
Although as Eric Morecombe might have said, I think you’re backing all the right horses – just not in the right races.

Can’t quite understand though – given your views on what some racing insiders are doing – why do you bet?
If there were as much skulduggery as you seem to believe, then it would be impossible for anyone to show a profit by solely studying form (without inside info).
Value Is EverythingDecember 5, 2017 at 15:56 #1330526Unquestioning loyalty to racing is what characterises this forum. Extremely boring. There are plenty of other places and I don’t include Betfair which is not to my taste, there are far better. I only bet with reliable info from trusted sources these days.
December 5, 2017 at 16:15 #1330533Of course you do Woolfie.

Maybe this is daft and going to come across stupid….but this is a racing forum yup?

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!December 5, 2017 at 17:13 #1330541Jack,
Woolfie is harmless but only comes on here occasionally and then only to moan about something.
Value Is EverythingDecember 5, 2017 at 17:15 #1330542If Woolfie wants something to moan about, I could always start another thread about the Table Of Odds And Chances.
Value Is EverythingDecember 5, 2017 at 20:35 #1330555This forum is cool, but it does have a pretty stiff upper lip. I don’t look at any other racing forums, but I have great experience of forums in another ‘sporting’ field. This forum is incredibly friendly in comparison.

December 5, 2017 at 21:39 #1330561Tommy, Bobby (VTC) does 99% of the big race write-ups. I throw in the occasional one but usually with a fiery and blatant disregard of everything but the one I fancy.
Gingertipster does some good ones – especially his annual Grand National preview. Steve Caution does some detailed ones on the Flat and one or two others contribute to the big race previews as well, but Bobby is our equivalent of what Randle P McMurphy sought on his first day’s incarceration when asking: “Who’s Bull Goose Loony around here?”

Yes, it does come across as stupid. Unquestioning loyalty to anything is not regarded as wise.
Insanity is defined as doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different outcome.
December 6, 2017 at 00:11 #1330582You clearly don’t get what Jack is talking about Woolfie.
Because we are are all Racing enthusiasts we all want what’s best for “Racing”, so we are all “loyal” to our sport… And that loyalty means TRFers will question things we as individuals do not agree with. Including challenging authorities and/or insiders within our sport when we see fit.
Value Is EverythingDecember 6, 2017 at 08:17 #1330595Our Sport Ginger? It’s not your sport or my sport, it belongs to those who have invested in the sport and they will keep you and I well out of the loop. Investment usually means buying a racehorse or at the very least having part ownership of a horse. Having a friend on the inside is an inestimable boon, failing that, recourse to a paid tipping service may be useful. I have never paid for information and never will. Generally results are preordained. You of course have a special insight and win by backing against yourself, that doesn’t work for me.
December 6, 2017 at 09:01 #1330599It is our sport too. It’s everybody’s sport. Investment takes many forms. Investing by betting to make a profit is just one. Choosing to go racing as a leisure activity another. Anyone who ever watches a race on television is investing their time and an emotional interest.

Thanks Joe, my praise to Bobby in that case. Must take a fair bit of time to go through a field in the way he does and I personally find it extremely helpful.
