84 cases in the UK now and 2 in Ireland. Would love to have everyone elses confidence.
March 4, 2020 at 19:55 #1484594Me too. I think the chances are getting worse with every new case. It’s still better than 50:50, but were getting close to that mark.
The GN Meeting is already odds against to take place trading at around 5/4.
March 4, 2020 at 20:26 #1484602The media doing there best to make it sound as though this is gonna be a second black death
A load of scaremongering nonsense being spewed out generally
The mortality rate is very very low unless you are 70+ with an existing condition
March 4, 2020 at 20:59 #1484607I think it will go ahead, and although the cornavirus is undoubtedly concerning and people
need to follow the guidlines, the last thing we want to do is start a panic. The Chinese
gave the figure of deaths due to the virus as 2.4% although the WHO raised this to 3.4%.
The thing is, the figures are based on known cases of coronavirus against fatalities. This
doesn’t take account of the number of people who have minor symptoms or have self isolated
at home with flu/virus like symptoms. The figure isn’t known, but it’s likely to be quite
considerable which would bring the % rate down. In China people over 80 had a much larger
fatality rate, and 70-80 was also higher. All the 52 deaths in Italy were aged over 60 years,
so current state of health is a factor. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying I’m alright Jack,
I’m 64 and will be heading to Cheltenham on Gold Cup day. To be honest they would need to
declare the black plague to stop me going, and even then. I’m not being stupid, I won’t be
shaking hands or snogging the person sitting next to me (chance would be a fine thing) but
I don’t see what difference there is in going to the festival, or having a saunter up
Sauchiehall Street on a Friday/Saturday night, it’s hardly a ghost town there. I mentioned
earlier that recorded figures show that over the last 5 years the average number of deaths
from Flu in England was 17,000 people. If the papers tomorrow had headlines “17,000 people
in England expected to die”, there probably would be panic, and yet that’s the norm for flu.
We need to take precautions, but keep it in perspective and monitor to see how it develops.
Enjoy the festival everyone, and Moe, I’m sure once it starts you’ll get your mojo back
March 4, 2020 at 22:12 #1484611Vautour, 90 people out of what 70 million? Your a betting man, thats 0.00001%? Is that a cause for concern?
What # would cause the government to do an italy? I dont think they will unless the actual mortality rate went higher than what it is, roughly 3% but most of that is in china and as bigG said, thats based on who has been tested positive, the # infected is probably 10x that which brings the rate down to less than 1%, no worse than the flu
If tomorrow was saturday, it would be 1/20, can 2 days extra cause it to be off? Lets for talking sake say that tomorrow it rises by the same % today around 70-80%, that would put us to roughly 150? Same again fri:270, by monday would that be high enough to cancel it? Would be about 1000 cases to my Very very rough calculation? 0.001% is this enough to cause THAT level of disruption? I doubt it?
Countries like italy are absolutely shambolic doing what there doing.
Now that cheltenham has FINALLY came out and said that they will have ample facilities for extra hand washing and extra care, posters etc (something they should have done days ago) my opinion is if you wake up tomorrow and the new “confirmed” cases only rises by 10-30% it will 100% be on, if it tripled or whatever then it will be in the balance
It should be on, this is just nonsense now
March 5, 2020 at 00:26 #1484614Enjoy the Festival Graham and everyone that is going. So glad its going ahead.

Have some anti bac hand gel in your pocket, drink beer and coffee from disposable glasses/cups and elbow bump all your mates but most of all back lots of winners and come back here and tell us all about it.
Think the feedback from all who are going about how the first day and following days pan out with regard to attendance and facilities for extra hygiene will be really interesting…Jac
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...March 5, 2020 at 01:14 #1484616Cheers Jac, I’ve got that kid on the run up to Christmas feel again, it’s just such
a magnificent spectacle, and to get as near to horses that I feel I should be bowing
to at the parade ring is just the thing of dreams. I won’t be drinking Jac as I take
the car, some tea and one of those jumbo sausages with onions n mustard they sell at
the vans will do nicely. The only fly in the ointment is trying to get the car out of
the soggy fields they stick you in, although they have a tractor on stanby if required.
I hope I have lots of winners, but either way I’ll have a ball
March 5, 2020 at 02:02 #1484618Carry on winning like you have at Meydan Graham and you’ll have no worries getting out of those soggy fields in your brand new Range Rover Discovery complete with private chauffeur/butler to carry your mustard and onion hot dog around with your flask of tea whilst you glide from paddock to bookie with pockets stuffed full of bookies money..have fun (I know you will)

Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...March 5, 2020 at 10:27 #1484626i dont know why people assume that the events are not going ahead because of lack of concern or preparation. they are doing their best
in fact cheltenham have gone so far as to lay on skips to throw the bodies in
cant ask for more than that surely
March 5, 2020 at 11:48 #1484640If the go ahead would be such a certainty as some people think then why is it still trading at around 1.35 to 1.40 instead of a more realistic 1.05 to 1.06?
And why aren’t people on this forum already filling their boots before a single horse has arrived at Prestbury Park?
You could make thousands of pounds with your selection not being asked to run, jump or complete.
March 5, 2020 at 12:16 #1484642perhaps they arent in the market of laying 1/3 shots to win thousands?
March 5, 2020 at 13:32 #1484648Have some anti bac hand gel in your pocket
Mot sure what good that will do. It’s a virus not a bacteria. And not sure why they are even contemplating calling any sporting or other events off. There’s been 90 cases and no deaths in the UK so far. How many normal flu strain cases and deaths has there been this winter
A hell of a lot more that’s for certain.March 5, 2020 at 23:31 #1484688Boots actually sell an anti viral hand foam although it’s alcohol free and I understand the coronavirus has to be broken down by using a gel with a high alcohol content…
March 6, 2020 at 06:58 #1484695This seems an awful waste of Vodka or Spirit but you can make your own anti viral solution Moe…
Fill a squeeze/spray bottle (one of those you take on holiday) with 2/3 Alchohol and add..
a few drops of Tea Tree Essential Oil
Same of Lavender Essential Oil and top it up with Aloe Vera Gel.Worth a try and helps avoid empty shelf syndrome.

Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...March 6, 2020 at 14:57 #1484716163 cases in the UK now.
March 6, 2020 at 15:06 #1484717Apparently you can avoid the virus by smothering yourself in dogshit
March 6, 2020 at 15:45 #1484721You still panicking vautour?
Let me know if it works after you have tried it clive? Could be a cure!
