You’ll never get punters to boycott these bent dross races en masse but it would be very interesting if you could.
December 17, 2022 at 13:13 #1627146Stuart Williams doesn’t even think the owner is a gambler. In fact no one in the yard might have punted him….
Friday: Southwell
Just 16 days after Huberts Dream landed a gamble for Stuart Williams, Arbaawi justified similar late support for the Newmarket trainer when making a winning handicap debut in the 6f nursery.
Beaten by a combined 40 lengths in his maiden and novices, the two-year-old was available at 10-1 a few hours before his first start on the all-weather and since a gelding operation, and scored by a head under Jason Hart to the relief of those who had backed him into 6-4 favouritism.
Williams said: “He’d shown a little bit in his three runs, he’d come from the breeze-ups initially but he’d been a little bit of a slow learner. I think gelding him has probably helped a little bit as well and it was only a poor race today.”
On the late gamble, Williams added: “I don’t think anyone in the yard punted him to be honest. I don’t think the owner’s a gambler – he’s just glad to have a winner. He’s been a big supporter of the yard, he’s had three horses with us recently and the other two weren’t capable of winning so it’s nice to see this one get his head in front.”
Despite holding an entry at Lingfield next Thursday, Arbaawi is unlikely to bid to emulate Huberts Dream, who quickly followed up his well-punted success with two odds-on wins. Williams said: “I doubt Arbaawi would run again quickly.”

The problem is when the horse winds up favourite many say: “what’s the problem?”
And many jump on the bandwagon.
Tbh, I hopped aboard late myself at 4.2 at Betfair Exchange.
But my bet had zero to do with what was in the form book and everything to do with the yard the horse was from.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"December 25, 2022 at 16:30 #1628053The Stuart Williams trained Revolutionise is back out tomorrow after his last intended start was scratched with the meeting being abandoned due to the weather.
3.35 Wolverhampton boxing day, the horse is 7/2 having been 9/2 when the markets opened a couple of days ago. If memory serves me right the horse is carrying bottom weight, has stall 1 and is racing off a mark of 82 (having been raised 7lbs for his recent win), the horse won off a mark of 90 over C&D last year.
Despite the competition the horse should be around 2/1 imo.
December 26, 2022 at 09:38 #1628159I’ve been trawling through this race with a fine toothpick Ben. It’s a challenge and I might have an angle on this one closer to the off. My bet today involves spuds which kicks off at 1230 and until that match is resolved I’ve no plays to make.
But as I see it, looking at some of the times achieved there is an angle here.December 26, 2022 at 10:25 #1628167I definitely won’t be playing in this one.
Out into the sunshine to take some fossils out of some London clay on an ancient river bed and won’t be back in time.
Hope to find sharks teeth and all sorts!
But Abolish and fiduciary standout to me, based on their winning juvenile performances in the states and on the continent.December 26, 2022 at 10:56 #1628174Looks like the Stuart williams stable have spoken anyway lol checked the odds before I left for work this morning and Revolutionise is out to 6/1!
December 26, 2022 at 11:03 #1628176Interesting video on a number of various gambles over the decades.
December 29, 2022 at 14:58 #1628779This fav in the 3.05 Limerick looks a fix it job, in its only 4 starts its been sent off at odds of 33/1, 150/1, 200/1 and most recently 250/1.
It now find itself as a 5/4 favourite lol.
December 29, 2022 at 15:16 #1628781Tired very quickly did the fav, the winner was sent off 7-1 having been 50/1 and 80/1 in its previous two starts, such an honest game this sport!!
December 29, 2022 at 16:12 #16287893:05 Limerick probably the worst maiden hurdle run in Ireland since partition. Fav finished way above its price at Punchestown last time, and was as short as 3/1 last night. The winner cost 58 grand and went off 7/1 on debut in a Fairyhouse Bumper.
You’ll see worse.
December 31, 2022 at 14:05 #1629080Poor Henry Daly, once again no one told him his horse would be halved in price and win very easily.
December 31, 2022 at 14:11 #1629082It’s a hard life for these gambling trainers this time of year isn’t it Ruby!
December 31, 2022 at 14:33 #1629091What exactly is peoples gripe here?
Bitterness because you’re not tipped off about it at the 33/1?
Annoyance because you feel the trainers shouldn’t be manipulating the way the handicapping system works?
Disappointed about how it makes racing look to casual observers?
All of the above?
Well ask yourselves this. If you were made aware of a Henry Daly plot job the night before would you get as much on as possible or would you do the honourable thing and refuse to back it out of principle because you don’t think it’s right?
December 31, 2022 at 14:43 #1629094Tbh Tizzards I don’t think there is much of a gripe from anyone (though I can’t speak for everyone), it’s more us just commenting on what’s happening.
I know I have and I’m sure plenty of others here have followed some of these gambles blindly. We can’t blame trainers for taking advantage of a system that is so ridiculously easy to manipulate, if I were a trainer I’d be the English Ronan McNally!
December 31, 2022 at 14:54 #1629100No TC, what I hate most is trainers pretending not to know anything. And just because a horse is gambled doesn’t always mean it’s going to win.
December 31, 2022 at 15:36 #1629115Ok ruby but what do you think the BHA would do if these trainers landing gambles routinely admitted to essentially not running a horse on its merits so they could shovel it on them at Southwell on a cold December in Wednesday?
Come on pal, anyone reading/posting on these boards knows the score and how these things go!
