“Braganza Bay had been beaten nearly 200 lengths in his nine finishes but found himself as the day’s major market mover and stepped forward to the delight of those who forced his odds of 14-1 to topple to 9-4.
Trainer Henry Daly said he was surprised by the strength of market support for his “enigmatic” runner in the 3m1½f handicap hurdle. Cheekpieces were added for the first time while the step up in distance and low rating were believed to be possible contributing factors to the improved form of the five-year-old.
Braganza Bay was recording his first career victory from 12 starts and he was last seen finishing a 34-length ninth at Stratford last month. His opening price halved to 7-1 on Monday night and continued to shorten on Tuesday.
“F*** knows, honestly,” said Daly, when asked about the gamble. “I had a look last night and saw him at 12-1 and thought that was fair enough, then I looked this morning and saw he was 11-4. I thought, wow, people clearly know a lot more about this game than I do. There we are.
“He should have won way before now. I think the right term for him is enigmatic – he’s run perfectly well sometimes then ran terrible the next. He ran very well on his first try over hurdles at Market Rasen but he hasn’t since.
“I think the first time over the trip may have helped him here too, but in truth I haven’t got a clue. He’s off 88, which probably made the difference. The jockey [Richard Patrick] has confidence if the horses are running well too.”
Come racing folk! No chance you’ll get robbed daily by what I’d call more corrupt than insider trading lol
November 15, 2022 at 19:38 #1623242I often look for horses in first time headgear but unfortunately I missed this one!
I don’t suppose it takes much money on a 14/1 chance at a small meeting before the bookmaker algorithms are triggered and they take evasive action.
But I never find it convincing when trainers say they do not know where the gamble came from. Seriously Mr Daly – absolutely no one in your yard has backed the horse?
November 15, 2022 at 19:42 #1623243Haha yeah why not say “no comment” or something lol, it was the shortest price the horse had ever gone off at – and he wants us to believe that’s just a coincidence and that it was random people with no knowledge backing it? He’s taking the p*ss and firmly off my christmas card list lol.
Though if I was working in his yard he’d be the one top of my list!!
November 16, 2022 at 05:33 #1623282” I’ve no idea ” says Mr Daly commenting from his yard , in the background you can hear the beeps of the securicor van reversing and tipping the winnings into a empty stable …
November 16, 2022 at 08:25 #1623289Happy Christmas!
We will see a few more of these in the next few weeks.I've stumbled on the side of twelve misty mountains
I've walked and I crawled on six crooked highwaysNovember 16, 2022 at 08:30 #1623291Fair play..
Pays the yards energy bill for a couple of weeks
I agree with Purwell, we will see more of it and more often
I’ve always had doubts over the lower grade racing and stick to the upper echelons of the sport for a friendly and fair betBlackbeard to conquer the World

November 17, 2022 at 05:38 #1623423Gary Moore likes to give his staff some Christmas presents at this time of the year.
November 17, 2022 at 18:27 #1623476Apparently Henry ” the gent ” Daly wasn’t happy about the gangs sorry yards behaviour after the heist sorry gamble , at the celebration party the assistant trainer turned up with a pink Cadillac and the wife in a mink …heads were turned …not good ….expect the corpses to start pilling up …
From that day forward I knew I want to be a gangster sorry gambler
November 19, 2022 at 17:40 #1623859Just posted this in the daily plays section but the Stuart Williams stable just got their christmas bonus – 5.30 Wolverhampton – Revolutionise goes from 12/1 to 3/1 in the 5mins before the off and duly wins easily!
November 19, 2022 at 22:01 #1623905I am not part of the ‘all racing is bent’ brigade but you can see their point because some of it damn sure is. Far more money to be made punting than there is sending horses to Wolverhampton on a weekday afternoon in November to win £3k. I know what I’d be doing if I could.
November 22, 2022 at 21:13 #1624201Revolutionise is entered again on Saturday at Wolverhampton in the 7.20 (same C&D as his win the other night). He’ll be a short enough price but he won with about 20lbs in hand.

Richard hits a nail on its head here – the prize-money percentage available versus the money to be made on the betting markets is a constant key integrity doubt trigger.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"November 27, 2022 at 14:45 #1624868Sandy Thomson with a nice double at Carlisle , the first backed from 22s , this man is paying for my Christmas , his 4 timer at kelso especially, see Fahey had a treble last night , sadly I only had the last one
November 27, 2022 at 14:50 #1624871Quiet HDLG, don’t tell anyone about Sandy Thomson. Backed both his horses, though only as singles at 14s and 6s. Still not complaining
November 27, 2022 at 14:53 #1624872Sorry with me and Bobby on here you’ve no chance , he had a quietish season last year , he’s flying this year , empire steel is the one im waiting on next !!
November 27, 2022 at 15:22 #1624874Thanks for sharing that one, HDLG. With him horses seem to improve quite a lot for the switch to chasing. You rarely see him having bad jumpers of fences and he knows how to get them fit first time out.
