Hate to have his name in this section. Took a very heavy fall, when well beaten and very tired in the Scilly Isles today. Sadly, not the only fatality today.
May he rest in peace
February 3, 2024 at 15:02 #1679585Sorry for triple posting. Admin, please delete whatever you want to.
ThanksFebruary 3, 2024 at 16:00 #1679621Who else has been lost today? I haven’t seen anybody else posted? Absolutely gutted to see Hermes Allen listed here, he was such a gorgeous horse 💔
February 3, 2024 at 16:04 #1679623Was Holmes St Georges lost at Musselburgh? The screens were up around him as they went past on the 2nd circuit.
February 3, 2024 at 16:09 #1679625I’m trying to find out about Holmes St Georges. This is the first season that I’ve been able to record the racing but I haven’t been able to watch any of the recordings. I’m actually seriously considering not recording it because I feel as though I’ve put some sort of curse on this season. It’s the worst few months that I can remember.
February 3, 2024 at 16:09 #1679626I knew he’d gone as soon as he fell, his head went under and I switched off my tv. Such a beautiful horse, all thoughts with stable staff and connections..I find it very hard to watch NH nowadays. He looked so lovely in the paddock and Sir Alex Ferguson and John Hales so proud of their boy..absolutely devastated 💔
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...February 3, 2024 at 16:13 #1679628I’ve been checking Twitter for Holmes St George and can’t find any updates. I’ve been keeping my fingers crossed.
February 3, 2024 at 16:13 #1679629I think it may be bad news for Holmes St. Georges Moe They missed out the fence he fell at and screens were up. But no definite news as yet so a bit of hope that he may be ok.
Please let him be.Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...February 3, 2024 at 16:33 #1679638The screens were for Ben Bromley who I think was stood down for the day, I saw the horse on the 2nd circuit near the screens but not behind
February 3, 2024 at 16:37 #1679639Re Holmes St Georges, ITV said he had been taken away for further assessment. Fingers very much crossed for positive news.
RIP Hermes Allen, a very sad loss.
February 3, 2024 at 16:56 #1679645Jac, the screens worried me too since he fell at the third obstacle. If it’s a last fence fall it might take him a while to get up, but a “nasty injury” was also mentioned by the commentator (I think it was Bartlett).
Thanks for the info Marlingford, apparently they’re trying their best to save him. Good luck to him!
February 3, 2024 at 17:00 #1679647🙏🙏 Praying he will be saved.

RIP gorgeous Hermes Allen, so sad for all his connections, such a talented boy.
February 3, 2024 at 18:18 #1679666Didn’t look good for one of the casualties of the Flame Of Tara – Mollys Glory clash at Leopardstown either but, as usual, no information.
February 3, 2024 at 20:42 #1679681Holmes St George looked to have broken a leg when he got up sadly .
I used to love jump racing , Sandown most meetings back in day , still watch with a lot of intetest but i dont know maybe iam getting soft but iam not sure its sustainable long term in the modern world . Still reckon will be gone in my lifetime . Iam hoping to go for another 20 years .February 3, 2024 at 21:05 #1679685I don’t think you’re getting old HMW it’s just a normal reaction seeing an animal you admire fall on it’s neck and dying instantly and yet fully exhausted during a sporting competition.
NH Racing will exist forever I think, but it’ll be tough to attract new supporters. Just take a look at the Caldwell Construction owners who as a young family decided to take a break from the sport.
Young family could mean they have young children who might find it difficult to deal with the unexpected death of their beloved horses. It could also apply to the Caldwells themselves, but it’s just a guess.Holmes St. George got up somehow, but couldn’t stand on one of his front legs. Whether a broken leg, a broken shoulder or nothing at all (which is rather unlikely), we’ll have to see and wait.
When Bartlett ever describes an injury as nasty, you know how it looked like.February 3, 2024 at 21:12 #1679688Do the Wylies have any horses in training now or did they, too give up after losing several horses in a short space of time?
