theres two way clear on form, but on the one hand you’ve got a horse who doesn’t seem to stay (flemenstar)
up against a horse that almost certainly needs better ground and a stiffer track (sir des champs)
sir des champs is my fancy for the gold cup, but given they are unlikely to go much of a pace in this, you’d have to fancy flemenstar to get the better of him again. the owner certainly thinks so reckons he’s a certainty. <!– s:shock: –>
<!– s:shock: –>February 8, 2013 at 12:21 #428825Bog Warrior has been given some much need confidence boosters back over hurdles after some disappointing performances over the bigger obstacles – and has looked very impressive in the process.
I have had a few sporting pounds on him @ 8/1 to upset the big two.

February 8, 2013 at 12:29 #428828Hinges on Sir Des Champs’ jumping. If he jumps better, he wins, if not, Flemenstar will bowl along in front and make every post a winning one.
February 8, 2013 at 20:15 #428871I’d love too see Flemenstar win, and in the small field he may be able to dominate. But Bog Warrior seems to have regained his confidence, and if he fulfils the promise he showed in his first few starts over fences, he could be a tasty bet.

This.
If I was Mr Ryanair I’d be looking at the World Hurdle for Bog Warrior.

Ireland :
5 runner graded races
or
30 runner maidens filled with horses trained by farmers who’ve had 1 winner in 6 years.
Slightly tongue in cheek…

Interesting comments from Barry Geraghty on The Morning Line, where he said Flemenstar is more or less a good thing in his eyes.

February 9, 2013 at 15:28 #428981I’d be surprised if Flemenstar went for the Gold Cup, just won’t stay at Cheltenham in my opinion, cannot see him winning a Gold Cup.
February 9, 2013 at 15:54 #428986I think jim mcgrath summed it up well there when he said that they didn’t make best use of flemenstar- his big trump is his jumping, and holding him up didn’t suit. though you could understand why they did it, as they had to be concerned about the trip.
still he stayed on well enough and I wouldn’t write him off over 3 miles.
As for sir des champs- I don’t think leopardstown suits him at all. cheltenham suits him much better with the uphill finish and the fact that he could overcome that and win any is a great boost for his chances there.
with conti looking so impressive at newbury and throw in bobs worth and a seemingly rejuvanated long run, and it’s shaping up to be some race.

Agree with all that
February 9, 2013 at 18:43 #429019Leopardstown has a severe uphill finish
February 9, 2013 at 19:12 #429021hope the gold cup turns out to be as good as it seems rght now with these horses ie bobsworth, sir des champs. silvi c, long run back and possibly imperial commander

true, but it’s generally considered a flat track while cheltenham is much more testing, which should be up sir des champs street.
February 11, 2013 at 15:35 #429268Does anyone else agree that there was a jockey error on Flemenstar at the second last fence?
I understand the tactics of dropping him in this time but at the second last Flemenstar put in a superb jump whilst Sir Des Champs was less fluent. Flemenstar jumped upsides and his momentum was going to take him into the lead but the jockey took a massive pull on the horse to keep him behind SDC.
To me it really killed the horses natural impetus and SDC kept his run up the inside, cutting off the corner, and then stole a bit of a march on Flemenstar going to the last. There was no difference between the two up the run-in.
Like I say, I understood the new tactics for the race but I felt at the crusial time he should have let Flemenstar have his head rather than hold him back.
Anyone agree?

Yes, I remeber that point and may be inclined to agree he should have let him go at his rythm from then but as you say they were over cautious and that not to say he would have won anyway.
