1990 Arc winner Saumarez. Would appreciate any info anyone has on his career as a stallion.
I believe he was the dam’s sire of Authorized and that he may now stand in South Africa. But has he sired anything of note on the racetrack?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Insomniac,

So long as you have a Racing Post account, data and a breakdown of his winners can be found here:

It seems like he’s done okay from limited chances. He is the sire of Rippling Ring and a few decent performers in France.

You couldn’t exactly describe him as a roaring success, but he hasn’t been a total disaster either.

His AEI is 1.26 which is ok, without being outstanding.

His AEI as a broodmare sire is rather better, at 1.75 (especially compared with his broodmare sire CI of 1.56), but this may be largely down to one horse, Authorized.

Many thanks for your help guys. I do have a RP account and have had a gander at their info, but can’t get a handle on the names of any horses he may have sired that have won big races: are there any?

At Group 1 level in England and Ireland as a paternal sire he has not had any offspring win any of the 8-10f races that are for colts and horses, I don’t know about fillies only races as I have no records of them. He only appears, as stated above, as the Damsire of Authorised.

He has had a Gr.1 winner (Diamond Quest in the Canon Gold Cup) in South Africa.

His best progeny from his crops in France and the US are probably:

Gr.2 winners Stretarez, Steward, Loxias, Silver Fun, Belcore (in Germany),
Gr.3 winners Katun, Maroussie, Luna Mareza,
Listed winners Crillon, Rainer, Febrar, Sacred Fire, Mayaro, Supreme Commander, Toto Les Heros, Fuenji,

In South Africa he has Stakes winners:
Bill of Rights, Omega Code, Pay The Piper, Alpe d’Heuz, Supreme Gold, Arctic Fleece.

He also has Tabascorez – last year’s Horse of the Year in Mauritius!

Don’t believe all the ‘limited opportunities’ stuff, it’s just that the information is limited on the RP database.

Loxias was 3rd in the G1 Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud after beating Millenary in a G2 at the same venue (2003).

Diamond Quest and Rippling Ring both won G1s in South Africa. That’s about as good as his progeny have got.

Push button "Suchen" = search and you will find mayor winners sired by Saumarez with icons for their most important successes.
