Nice of him to mention it really.
“We are trying something new by sending Burning Victory on the long boat (Dublin to Cherbourg) for the Prix De Croix-Luizet Handicap over 2m 1f. She will have top-weight and will be ridden by Franck Blondel who finished second on Sealiway in the French Derby last Sunday. She has a much more favourable handicap mark in France than in Ireland so we felt it was worth having a go here. She has been in good form at home and hopefully she will run a big race.”
Lyon 11th June.June 11, 2021 at 12:38 #1544830Thanks for that Sam, it’s definitely an interesting one and I can’t see
willie sending her over just for the sea air. Obviously well handicapped
and although 11/8 is normally a bit on the short side for me but I reckon
it’s worth the effort so I’ve had a bit onJune 11, 2021 at 14:30 #1544847G’ luck big G.
I’d say that going to the effort of booking the french lad says they are giving it a serious go. Obviously getting a decent jockey from Ireland or England right now is a non starter with big racing on here. 11/8 is smallish but to be fair should be clear favourite. I’ve put it down on my thread as a max win. My first. We’ll see.
Lots can go wrong with these long distance travel efforts, but fingers crossed this team can bring home the bacon.June 11, 2021 at 17:41 #1544893Lyon-Parilly 17:20

June 11, 2021 at 19:02 #1544913Its ok Ben I’m putting up another max in about two years time.
June 12, 2021 at 12:57 #1545065Having watched the video it was all too easy for burning victory.
It’ll be interesting to find out the rationale for going to all the logistics of winning this prize. Costs versus returns.
It was a great return for the French bred horse and as Willie is always purchasing horses from France, the trip was very fruitful.June 17, 2021 at 19:52 #1546107Leopardstown 8pm
“Jody Townend is riding very well and she takes the mount on Zuma Rock in the 1m 7f QR Race. She appreciated the better ground when winning a bumper at Clonmel last month and she’ll have similar ground here. This trip will suit and we’ll be disappointed if she’s not in the shake-up”
Could be that Risk factor is a better bet here.June 26, 2021 at 13:37 #1547927“True Self (Billy Lee) goes for the 1m 2f Group 3 Stakes. She ran a fantastic race in the Group 1 Tattersalls Gold Cup over this course and distance last time but this is a tough assignment with the three year olds getting so much weight. She will really like this ground and we will be pleased if she finishes in the first three or four today.”
Not a selection. I am just posting what the trainer has said.July 3, 2021 at 13:43 #1548933“Good Man Jim (Rachael Blackmore) runs in the handicap hurdle over 2m 1f. He was unplaced over 2m 4f at Down Royal last time but this shorter trip will be more to his liking. However, that run was disappointing and he is probably best watched until we see some improvement.”….
July 9, 2021 at 12:46 #15498817.20Charleville Flat Race.
Derracrin (Patrick) makes his debut in the 4YO bumper. He works well at home and will like this ground. Hopefully he will go close but it is difficult to be confident about his chances with so many unknown quantities in opposition.
I agree with the trainer. This race is full of flat horses and some very well related unraced sorts. Johnny Murtagh has one in here too. A very tricky race where the market may give a few clues later…July 10, 2021 at 12:54 #1550137limerick
120“Gelee Blanche (Paul) goes for the 2m 2f beginners chase. The experience she gained on her chasing debut at Tramore will stand to her here. The good ground today will really suit her and we are expecting a very good run.
Golden Spread (Paul) runs in the 2m 3f beginners chase. He was a bit disappointing on his chasing debut at Kilbeggan and will need to step up on that performance here. He will handle the ground but would prefer a longer trip.”

Marajman (Paul) goes for the 2m 1f conditions hurdle. His second to Royal Rendezvous at Ballinrobe last time reads well in the context of today’s race. He is in good form and hopefully this is an opportunity for him to get back to winning ways.Rumoroso (Paul) runs in the 2m 2f maiden hurdle. He was third over 2m 6f at Ballinrobe last time and the drop back in trip here will really suit. He jumps very well and with a bit of luck he should get off the mark over hurdles today.
July 28, 2021 at 07:25 #1552306Ominously quiet so far
Galway races Wednesday“Dysart Diamond (Jack Foley) runs in the 2 mile mares handicap hurdle. She is not the biggest mare so Jack’s 7lb claim will be a help. She has a lot of weight but she will like the trip and act on the ground.
Dark Voyager (Paul) goes for the Listed Novice Hurdle over 2 miles. He won a flat race here and will like this ground. He was impressive at Tipperary last time and he should be a big player here.
We have two runners in the 2m 5f maiden hurdle. Rayapour (Brian Hayes) has been a little disappointing so far and needs to improve a good bit if he is to be involved here. Lasparas (Paul) won a bumper at Tramore and is a previous point to point winner. He has schooled well at home and will love this trip.
We have six runners in the Galway Plate over 2m 6f. Royal Rendezvous (Paul) had a nice prep for this when winning a hurdle at Ballinrobe last time. He was unlucky in this race last year and with a little improvement should go close again. Patrick has elected to ride Annamix who jumps well enough and has been working well. He will like this nice ground and has a good chance. Easy Game (Bryan Cooper) has a lot of weight and faces a tough assignment. Too much rain would curtail his chance. Brahma Bull (Jack Foley) won over 3 miles last time and might just find this trip a little short. With his rider’s 7lb claim he has an each-way chance. Livelovelaugh (Sean O’Keeffe) will be suited by this trip but might find things happening a bit fast around this tight track. Koshari (Brian Hayes) has a lovely racing weight and could be well handicapped. He improved hugely to win over hurdles at the Punchestown Festival and has a decent chance if he keeps his jumping together.
Klassy Kay (Paul) runs in the 2m 5f handicap hurdle. She will like this ground and has an each-way chance.
Andalusa (Brian Hayes) goes for the handicap chase over 2m 2f. This trip is probably as far as she wants to go and she would prefer a flatter track.
We run two in the mares bumper. Patrick has picked Mary Meehan even though her form doesn’t suggest she would win this. She has a reasonable chance if the ground stays dry. On the other hand, Memorable Daise (Jody Townend) has a chance if the ground gets softer.
We also have two in the 4yo bumper. Derracrin (Jody Townend) ran very well when third on his debut at Cork and the form of the race has worked out well. He has a good chance if he handles this undulating track. Le Nouveau (Killian Callaghan) is a nice horse but this is a big stage to start off his career.”
August 2, 2021 at 10:17 #1553189“Rebellito (Wayne Lordan) runs in the 1m 2f handicap. He was very disappointing over hurdles so we are going back on the flat to see if that will bring about improvement. He has been of the track for a long time so this won’t be easy.”
Naas 5.15
This horse has two two wins in France on the flat. This looks a very competitive race to come into. An improvement in form is all the stable are looking for before this horse goes back to the obstacles. However a spin on the flat without seeking reward is unlikely from Willie Mullins and 12k on offer is the target.
593 days off the track will be no suprise if the improvement needed has not been seen in training. Wayne Lordan takes the ride. A decent 9/1 or better is on offer. -
