Fingers crossed he’s right come March this season.
His sheer class won him the race today just like at Punchestown in April. There’s more to come from him provided he stays right.

December 15, 2010 at 20:48 #332804Cracking performances from the first two; suggests the Hurricane should be suited fine by a strongly run 2m race with a stiff finish.
Voler la Vedette couldn’t match the pace of the first two when Solwhit wound it up but stayed on fine; would love to see her given a crack at the stayers at either Cheltenham or Punchestown.

So don't run, just like the others always do
December 16, 2010 at 00:14 #332829HF was impressive, tho the middling pace didn’t help Solwhit. The Champion Hurdle is shaoing up nicely; Binocular, Menorah, Peddlers Cross and the Hurricane. I’m leaning towards the Hurricane after today, but open to persuasion

His own fault Befair. I thought Hurrcane Fly was running on empty after the last which makes it all the more impressive.
Looked like he was going to win about 5 lengths the way he was travelling but the lack of race fitness took a bit of the sting out of his tail. Somethiing Solwhit failed to do.
I don’t know that it was so much a muddling pace but it wasn’t a particuallry strong one. Solwhit’s jockey must have known that the lack of pace was unlikely to find out Hurricane Fly even if he was only 90% fit.
IMO He should have read the situation, taken the bull by the horns and went for before the home turn.

Who in their right mind begrudges a potential winner, Fist ?
Eh? I didn’t want to see Hurricane Fly being beaten "H" but thought that he would be……….I don’t have to like it do I?
In the end beeing biased got the better of me and I backed Hurricane Fly but doubled him with Micky D

That could mean I’m probably not in my right mind

Hurricane Fly won it pretty easy in the end, Solwhit clearly just short of being top class, can’t see him picking up anything in a strong field.
Based on last year’s Champion Hurdle you’re probably right Red. He’s one helluva horse though and if something were to spring a bit of a surprise in the big one he’s the type that could do it.
I think the problem with Solwhit if you can call it a problem is they ride him like he’s Hurricane Fly. They get away with it becuase he is such a good horse but they really should make a lot more use of him than they do at times.
If it came up soft and they change tactics giving him a Celestial Halo type ride at Cheltenham he might shock a few people. I doubt if too many people would actually be that shocked to see Solwhit leading them down to the last and more than a few struggling behind.
All these top class horses have days when they are unbeatable because of differnnt factors and you simply can’t write any of them off with confidence.
