So, where have you been this year then? anywhere nice abroad? it’s 7 years since I got on a plane and went to Fiji, so go on make me jealous.
September 17, 2007 at 13:38 #115333just had a lovely time in clacton
September 17, 2007 at 14:02 #115334hmmm….well it’s somewhere I’ve never been…you sound like a chip butty type of man Chubs…?
September 17, 2007 at 14:59 #115341Hmmmm still here on Pluto er I mean Singapore
– but will be off in 3 weeks to Perugia so can’t wait.
Before that Cambodia for a few days to see Angkor Wat and ummmmmmmm Bintan for the weekend – we’re pretty close to things here, so weekend trips are simple.
September 17, 2007 at 15:30 #115343We went to Scarborough this year .. fish and chip paper and dog $hit eveywhere, can’t beat it.
£8 to park your car and £2 for a cup of tea.
September 17, 2007 at 15:58 #115347I’m sorry you didn’t appear to enjoy Scarborough Dave. I went there once and thoroughly enjoyed it
I don’t remember paying to park the car, so don’t know quite what happened there..lol….bit nippy though.hi KT,
all that sounds exciting to some of us starved of adventure at the moment . I bet you’re looking forward to seeing Angkor Wat, a highlight for you I imagine.
I had to look Bintan up, vaguely heard of it, but as you say it’s quite near you [by ferry??], and presumably you’re going to the resort area. Dicey hiring a taxi apparently…hmmm…expect you’re used to all this sort of thing though, so I hope you have a lovely time with it all. Have you been to Bintan before? or is this your first trip there ?September 17, 2007 at 16:51 #115353Too poor to go this year
. Nearest thing to a holiday was a few overnight stays in Doncaster
.September 17, 2007 at 17:05 #115354nothing wrong with scarborough
try clacton freeze your nuts off
September 17, 2007 at 17:31 #115357I went to the Lake District and then on to Scotland and spent a few nights at Loch Lomond. Stunning scenery. Weather was better than in the South too which is unusual. Didn’t cost the earth either!
September 17, 2007 at 18:45 #115362that’s nice crizzy, I love the Lake District, been there many times. Did you climb Helvellyn? most people seem to. Not me, I’ve no head for heights..lol.
As for Scotland I’ve been through the Cairngorms and the west coast.
Did you go hiking?September 17, 2007 at 18:48 #115365I was conceived in Scarborough (alledgedly). Didn’t do me much harm though.
September 17, 2007 at 20:44 #115377No, no serious climbing. UM. Had the kids with us and I’m a bit unfit at the moment! did one walk which was very uphill though and saw views to take your breath away of loch lomond. Highland cattle plodding about etc. A free education for the little ones too. It’s like a home from home for me in the lake district however. Away from tourists it’s simply hard to beat. There are so many places in our great country that are wonderful. Any recommendations ??
September 17, 2007 at 21:14 #115389Did someone mention climbing? I’m off up in Nov to do some hills. Not sure which as I’m not the organiser but if it’s the usual script it’ll be two or three Munros a day, all tackled with the added impediment of a reasonably robust hangover.
Are there any other hillwalkers/climbers on the forum?September 17, 2007 at 21:24 #115391We went to Scarborough this year .. fish and chip paper and dog $hit eveywhere, can’t beat it.

Good God, man, where did you park?!?!? I didn’t spend £8 on the car parks in five years living there!
You can’t beat Scarb with a big stick – bracing, friendly, and not halfway as tarnished with tat as Blackpool and the like. I was up there for an erstwhile colleague’s leaving do only last weekend and stand a good chance of returning there once more this year.
It’s a coin-toss between there and Cartmel as to where my ashes will be scattered, probably depending on which location Mrs Column remembers first!

Are there any other hillwalkers/climbers on the forum?Have you heard of the five sisters in Ireland? We did that one year. Half way up the second one I thought they’d have to bring in the rescue helicopter to airlift me out – but lucky a second wind came along

There aren’t many mountains here (or hills) but Scotland has some stunners. Will you be taking some photos Corm?
September 18, 2007 at 01:37 #115421hi KT,

Have you been to Bintan before? or is this your first trip there ?Yes we go to Bintan by ferry, it’s only beaches and golf courses there nothing else. But we can windsurf there and the water is a lot cleaner than off Singaore.
Cambodia was a few months ago and it was great. Really poor country but the people are fantastic. The temples were everything I thought they’d be and by mistake we picked the best time to go in one way. It was about 40oc but because of the heat not as many tourists. (They’d all keeled over earlier in the week
