Another race part of what seems to be a superb days racing live on Channel 4 and a highly interesting and competitive group 3 race here with many horses having good claims to win.

For me it has to be Many Volumes to win here. The performance on Bank Holiday Monday in a 1m3f listed race. Albeit this is a furlong longer at 1m4f it seems that Many Volumes has been calling out for this trip at group level and connections from all angles agree with me here. Off a weight of 9-4 (4lbs less than when winning previously) here and with the horses’ impressive progression I can look no further.

Of the remainders, Hattan returns after a promising 2nd behind Spanish Moon in a listed race at Windsor a fortnight ago and could provide a decent each way claim.

Galactic Star, following on from a decent 2nd behind Sixties Icon and ahead of Donegal (who subsequently goes in a Grp3 at Longchamp on Friday) seems to be the only one that can challenge Many Volumes here as Galactic Star has some decent form on 1m4f. It’s also good to see Young Mick back in action in this but I feel this may be too short a race for him to made a well deserved impact.

All in all, a brilliant race and Many Volumes seems like the obvious choice here.

    Good luck,
    Dan

    Dan,

The 4lb difference is completely irrelevant as that was a conditions race and this is a Group 3.

I agree that Many Volumes looks to have the most solid chance given his recent form but his price will obviously reflect that.

The one that interests me at this stage is Blue Monday. A pleasing reappearance on his return to Roger Charlton, on his best previous form he would eat this lot for breakfast. The doubts are, he is now a 7yo (although connections must feel he still has plenty to offer) and no form on this surface.

At a decent price I will take a chance on him.

    :D

The legend that is Young Mick to put these pampered blue-bloods in their place.

D’ya reckon he can? It’d be brilliant if he could from a ‘fairytale’ point of view but is this race too short for him :( ?

No i don’t – in fact he’s never won further, and already has a Group win at 12f to his name so i’m not sure where you’re coming from.

Sorry, for some reason I thought this years’ Ascot and Haydock 2nds were at 1m7f. I have no idea why! Maybe it was because Mad Rush run 1m7f in his last run.

I should check the form before making my comments!

No apology neccessary. I wondered if you thought he needed further these days due to season aims appearing to be the Ebor / Melbourne Cup. It is a possibility to be fair, but i think a strong run, big field 12f is ideal.

Do you think he’ll go to the Melbourne Cup?

Havent had a chance to catch up on any of the Melbourne Cup news but last time I heard he was being ‘considered’.

I would guess (stress, only a mildly educated guess) he won’t go. A win tomorrow however would certainly give connections a conundrum.

Slightly suprised at the early odds on Betfair this afternoon for this.

    Young Mick at 10/1

Many Volumes at 3/1 (which I’ve taken as I think that’ll drop by the morning when the regular bookies offer something like 7/4)

No clear favourite either….Galactic Star is showing at 3/1 too.

    Hattan 7/4 to even place!

Slightly tenuous line through Dansant gives Many Volumes clear beating of Lion Sands and Galactic Star. But aside from that, the last performance was a very comfortable victory. In command a fair way out. 3/1 on betfair, which suprises me alittle

Blue Monday would be right there at his best but would be concerned about Mourilyans lay off and Al shemali’s recent runs

An equally tenuous form line through Dansant gives Mourilyan the beating of Many Volumes and of Halicarnassus on another form line but I agree lay off means probably best left alone. Blue Monday’s form of a couple of seasons ago would make him a very likley winner but recent efforts not up to that and has never won over this trip.

Many Volumes is the obvious choice and not much between Galatic Star and Lion Sands though I would say the former poses the biggest threat.

7/4 will be much too short HTH. More like 7/2 I would’ve thought?

And Hattan 7/4 to place? More like 5/1?

May not have won over the trip but 4th in the Canadian International and 4th in the Caulfield Cup doesn’t read too badly?

You are taking a punt that he acts on the surface, but if he is within 10lbs of his best, that would still be good enough to win here.

“Cheerful” Clive Brittain, like a few Newmarket yards, has had a season to forget, but the signs are that this autumn may prove an Indian summer.

Three winners for the yard in the last fortnight is a good sign for Lingfield Derby winner Hattan at a juicy price. If the race was 1m2f, I’d back it win only (record on polytrack 101) but the old horse could be done for toe in the final furlong over this trip.

Young Mick has to be backed for his solid record on polytrack 430911122112365 and if any horse (and yard) deserves a change of luck it’s this combo.

I think the way this race is going to be run will be crucial. There isn’t a guaranteed front-runner in there, but I suspect Hattan will probably take them along like he did at Windsor last time. With Blue Monday having to prove he’s as good as he was before his Australian trip, I think 3 horses stand out from a form point of view, namely Many Volumes, Galactic Star and Mourilyan. Galactic Star and Mourilyan have been dropped right out recently – the former given a really poor ride at Goodwood last time. Many Volumes on the other hand is more than happy sitting prominent. I’d imagine Many Volumes will sit in second and third and could easily put this race to bed whilst his 2 main rivals are having to make their runs from rear.

I think Young Mick is playing for places at best, but prefer him to something like Lion Sands who surely needs quite a bit further than 12f around here.

I really like Many Volumes for this but at 20-1 I think Al Shemali should go well on the first try on the conditions and is well worth an e/w shout.
