He’s certainly the best horse Highclere Thoroughbred Racing have had for some time and potentially he could be an Arc horse but I doubt very much if he will be aimed at the Arc this year.
They will be keen to keep him in training so his full potential can be realised and if he keeps going the way has been you would have to think the Eclipse, King George and Arc would be on the Agenda next year.
Seems SMS wasn’t too convinced by that performace that the St Leger will be on the agenda. Although not as bad as the Epsom Derby was the early pace put paid to any clues that Harbinger would get the trip at Doncaster.
SMS indicated Harbinger will now go for the Great Voltiguer and as he is not one for making snap decision I take it this was planned if the Gordon Stakes turned out to be inconclusive.
I think we’ll find that should he win at York he will go to Doncaster which would add tremendous value to him should he win it. Unlike Conduit this horse has loads of natural speed and would be much better suited by1m2f at Sandown than he was.
SMS other entry for the Great Voltguer is Ballymacoll Stud’s Glass Harmonium and I can’t see SMS running both. One things for sure Henry Cecil who decided not to take on Harbinger with his Great Voltguer and St Leger entry Father Time yesterday, wont be happy to hear the news.
I guess SMS will just have to throw Glass Harmonium in at the deep end and send him to York and kick Sea the Stars and Mastercraftsman into touch.

Actually Peter Reynolds said the other day he might not be ready to tackle
1m4f yet so they might well send him to York or if nothing else is suitable there may be something in France for him.July 29, 2009 at 15:14 #241509Just had a good look at this race now. The form doesn’t look anything special imo. Even with a very sedate pace there was still nothing good enough besides Harbinger to quicken like a decent horse should and he won without a challenge. He wasn’t pulling ahead either despite being ridden out vigorously to the line. Ordinary enough Group 3 form and certainly didn’t see any Oaks credentials on display from the winner.
