As already stated, no fine, a six months job as an assistant trainer (but still calling the shots) and the chance that some owners might bring their horses back. If HDB were to demote him to 3rd in the irish Trainers rankings, that would be at least a small punishment.

I just can’t imagine WPM taking over Sir Gerhard for two runs and then sending him back to Gordon. And if CPS doesn’t do this to Willie then they clearly won’t do it do HDB.

The fact that Henry and Wpm both have taken unraced horses suggest to me it’s more long term. Unless there’s some sort of secret agreement with said trainers that they knew he would be able to train for this spring and they wanted the newcomers to run at Punchestown.

Personally think it’s a sign CPS are thinking longer term than the Elliot ban.

Posted last night about the 4 days for Page Fuller and Lorcan Williams for arguing, well tonight Gay Kellaway give a boy a bollocking and she’s in for £250. Like I said “look what the Elliott thing has started……….”.

An enquiry was held following a report from two riders who rode in the third race and observed an incident between Gay Kelleway, the trainer and Oisin McSweeney, the rider of MUKHA MAGIC, in the unsaddling area post-race. Having heard their evidence, Kelleway was found guilty of Improper Conduct and fined £250, in that she had an altercation with McSweeney, using both inappropriate language and speaking in an aggressive manner towards her rider after the race.

I bet CPS are thinking what the hell have we got involved in here with these nutjobs. A huge global outfit so you would imagine they will stay well away from any future hassle. Can’t imagine Mullins or De Bromhead jumping on a dead horses back giving a victory salute somehow.

Yes I think CPS are gone out of the yard for good. I wonder what JP will do. I don’t think he’ll take horses away- he hardly ever does that- but I wonder if he will just not send any new ones, and let his ownership with Elliott wither on the vine as existing horses age.

CPS have made no official announcements on their website, however they have removed Gordon Elliott from the trainer’s list and updated the changes made. WPM has eight of their horses in his charge, HDB seven.

With David Thompson dead, you’ll never know what her future plans will be. However when the Potts died four years ago, no one expected to see horses in their colours still running in France or GB.

It does make you wonder what the punishment would of been if it was Henry Cecil sat on Frankel, AOB on Galileo or John Gosden on Enable. Does the horses stature lessen the crime ?

“Gordon will be available to assist her as required.” Since deleted by @gelliott_racing, but it makes it clear Cheveley Park Stud need to be thanked for genuinely punishing Elliott, as it’s becoming increasingly (and frankly predictably) clear no one else in racing is going to.

If you look at his five top owners: Gigginstown, JP, the Morans, CPS and Robcour only one of them has removed their horses. Though you could expect Robcour to move them to HDB, if not already announced.

I didn’t think I would return but after more than two years I did want to comment on this story.

I thought the picture was disgraceful and indefensible. No ifs and buts. Some people have made arguments along the lines of we all make mistakes and worse things have happened but for me they don’t wash.

I have been really disappointed but not surprised at the industry reaction to the verdict. Nobody has come out and honestly explained the penalty. That isn’t good enough. We had Luke talking today about transparency. So where was it in this case.

There can’t be anyone in racing who doesn’t know that the ban is ridiculously lenient. In reality it isn’t a year, it isn’t even six months. In fact it is a couple of months with a paltry fine thrown in. It is absolutely no wonder he hasn’t appealed.

He will be back for the winter. They may as well have gone the whole hog and found him not guilty.

Elliott brought the game into disrepute and the IHRB have followed suit. The sentence makes them look a joke. What did they spend all day doing? Unfit for purpose springs to mind.

After this it is hard to see how racing moves forward given that you can do something so extreme and hardly receive any sort of penalty. The bad eggs need to be rooted out and this is the poorest starting point imaginable.

Just making sweeping statements about horses being well looked won’t cut it as it is hard to believe these are the only two cases out there. How many have been buried?

Unless my ears deceived me I think Chamberlin described the Elliott outrage as ridiculous. Was the cheerleading chump on something? The last thing racing needs to do is get all defensive and retreat back into the bubble.

Ruby, Brian Acheson is not pulling his horses. He’s supporting the stable, just hasn’t officially stated so (just like JP).

I’ve only read the current page of this thread and that is more than enough faux outrage for me to depart again.

Who do the owners pay the training fees to the next six months?

For this to be anything other than a token sanction, neither Elliott nor G Elliott Racing should see any revenue whatsoever the next six months.

All fees and prize money percentages should bypass Elliott’s company and go direct to the licence holder (who shouldnt even pay to pay rent on the premises Elliott wanted the horses kept at) and stable staff.

Being able to have the horses stay at what is his establishment the next six months, making it very easy for him to just pick up the reins again half a year later, is a privilege open to abuse.

He should actually be required to move out and not set foot on the premises where the horses are trained the next six months.

    Evicted from his own home?

Not really – it’s his choice to arrange for the horses to be at his own home the next six months but he shouldn’t have his cake and eat it.

I think the length of the ban is about right – no Internet/Social Media “ban him for life” lynch mob member, I – but IMO it needs to be seen to be a proper ban.

Cheveley Park will never allow their horses to return to Elliott’s establishment they have washed their hands of him and rightly so.

Lydia Hislop said in an interview before Elliott was ‘punished’ by the IHRB that “whoever took the picture and whoever else was present should also be brought to account”. So what’s happening there as they are presumably still in the yard.

Whatever his punishment Gordon Elliott will forever be associated with that image. A man in his position should have thought twice before he jumped on top of Morgan for a photocall. If it had been one of his stable lads or lasses they would have been instantly dismissed with little chance of working with horses again.

This man has been given a lifeline by the IHRB but to the racing industry and those of us that love the sport both here and across the globe he has shown a disturbing dark side to his nature that anyone thinking of sending a horse his way in the future would instantly remember. He may well try to hide that image away but like the potrait of Dorian Gray it will always come back to haunt him.

Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...
