Probably another 10 percent and to make sure his horses aren’t unfairly handicapped.

But, I fully agree with Paul when saying that no decent owner should ever send him a horse. There could be quite a few talented trainers out there, it will be just a matter of time until the next Gordon Elliott comes around.

Elliot should be banned from ever working with animals or owning any animals for life including pets.

Anybody who even considers that he should only be banned from racing for a year or 2 or even 5 needs to give their head a wobble urgently. Anybody who thinks this man should be given the privilege of returning to a racing career of any shape or form has issues.

I think Gavin Cromwell could do with a few more good horses as he clearly has ability to train even a Fetival winner.
No big surprise that he is sixth on the list behind the Big Five.

Another shrewd trainer with a decent eye for a good horse is Peter Fahey in my opinion. He likes to line up gambles and when the money is down, you know what you can expect. He also looks as if he could accommodate a few more horses.

    Both however, arent really young.

You havent a clue robbo, im assuming theres. General dislike for elliott behind that view, the punishment your suggesting certainly doesnt fit the crime, the biggest roar about this has came from inside racing, not outside.

    Stupidity at its finest,

Youv compared his situation to that of child abusers today, that sais it all really… how when you type that out you think that is a viable thought is beyond me, but i suppose, that level of stupidity is only understood by a select few.

Didn’t Like – thanks for the info re Sandy Thompson, only found out about him recently for some reason. Seems very shrewd!

    Robbo,

The horse was dead so doesn’t feel Elliott straddling him; doesn’t know he’s smiling or using a v-sign. It doesn’t matter to the dead horse what happened, only matters to our (the public’s) human sensitivities. There is to this point no worthwhile evidence to suggest Elliott has done anything wrong against a living racehorse or living animal.

So how can you justify Elliott “banned from ever working with animals or owning any animals for life including pets”?

Don’t you believe in anyone being given a second chance once they’ve done their time; or is it just Elliott?

If you think a lifetime ban is justice then what about Davy Russell for hitting a living horse?
What about any person doing anything at all against a living thing – a living thing that can actually feel?

For “justice” sake (justice for the man) I believe a 5 year ban would be right.
However, for Racing’s sake (Racing’s public image and for Racing’s future) I believe a lifetime ban would be right.

Sadly that second alternative may be General Public’s fault if not Captain Robbo’s.

    Yes I do “have issues”.
    Torn between the two.
Right or wrong there is imo no answer.
At the moment I can’t choose.

I think most people will be satisfied with a 3 to 5 year ban, heavy fine and ordered to do unpaid work for Greatwood or an Irish equivalent (assuming there is one). Maybe some of the fine could be donated to them as well.

The internet never completely forgets but I doubt many people will still be calling for Elliott’s head after that amount of time. And trying to start up again after such a long absence will not be easy for him.

In the very unlikely event he is given a life ban, there is no doubt such a draconian sentence would be appealed. There would have to be a good chance of it being reduced.

Surely they can’t ban Elliott for 3-5 years. That seems like over-kill to me. Will someone take over his yard? I presume they have some sort of contingency plan in mind, or even a 3 month ban would mean all of the Graded level horses clearing off as a minimum.

What has Elliott actually done? Showed disrespect to a dead horse. From some of the comments and suggestions for “punishment” one might think he was a serial horse mutilator or worse.

I’ve no idea whether the incident captured in the photo was a one-off crass insensitivity or reflects an aspect of the man’s character, but one should only be “tried” for one’s established words and/or actions and in the scale of human insensitivities or worse his was pretty small beer. Take away someone’s livelihood, for ever or 3-5 years for that? Absurd.

Did Elliott bring racing into disrepute? No. Only an idiot would judge racing on the basis of an incident of crass insensitivity by one individual, just as only an idiot would judge MPs conduct in respect of observing COVID rules by the action of the Scottish Nationalist MP who travelled by train knowing she had COVID.

Did Elliott bring racing into disrepute? Yes. Astonishing that anyone could think he has not.

There is no doubt Elliott brought Racing in to disrepute.
The public is outraged and if this sort of thing is rife amongst trainers the public would make sure Racing is closed down.
