the Scotsman who has presided over our budgets and economy for ten years tells the English populace that if they didn’t waste so much food they wouldn’t be so badly off.
Unbelievable isnt it? Talk about bad timing. Does he really think this is of real concern to voters at the moment? You can get away with this preaching when your ratings are high…
Does he treally think we are bothered about bloody Africa at the present time?
I also couldnt believe the ridiclulous Harman bill a couple of weeks ago. Just as people are starting to worry about their jobs we have thicko Harman delivering a completely useless and unworkable bill whos intentions will completely alienate a huge section of the population
The countries reaction to that must have been a collective shrug of the shoulders and further dislike for the legislation mad labour party
They havent got a clue have they?
July 7, 2008 at 10:20 #172067I was wondering what he was going to get onto next, I mean he was fizzing about carrier bags the other day. It’s quite funny really, I mean, how does he know what everybody throws out, as a percentage of what they buy everyday. My auntie doesn’t throw anything out because the dog eats whatever is left over.
Now if he had said, ‘Cancel the Boi-fuel fiasco, because poor farmers are growing palm oil instead of rice, because there’s more profit in it.’ Then we could have sat up and paid attention because it wouldnt have been ridiculous.
He is a clown, a government over-spending one.
July 7, 2008 at 10:30 #172070Someone has also hacked his ‘Smile’ program.
It involuntarily kicked-in about three times coming down the steps of his flight yesterday.
I had visions of Kryton’s exploding heads………………

Spot on
Brown and his advisors must realise they face inevitable humiliation at the next election so why not be bold and introduce some novel, daring, possibly deeply unpopular unilateral policies; they’ve absolutely nothing to lose.
Once introduced, laws are rarely repealed by a government of a superficially different hue
July 7, 2008 at 11:36 #172079Where is Tony when the going gets tough?
.. you could try the UN, EU, IMF etc .. they are sort of like divvied up between those organisation when they are no longer electable, on the gravy train proper
July 7, 2008 at 13:06 #172089Did you see the way he is getting to Japan?
Small private jet I can understand for security: but no, Gordon is going by a private charter Boeing 767 at a cost of 500,000.00 pounds to you and I!
Why on earth does he need an aircraft of that magnitude?
Regards – Matron
July 7, 2008 at 14:36 #172105At least he’s eating up all his dinner Matron, while single handedly trying to destroy the planet and talk $hite ..
July 7, 2008 at 19:52 #172153On Thursday, he promised to do away with Mr. Brown’s stealth taxes, and put an end to government "burying bad news in the small print."
And on Sunday, he unveiled plans for a Fair Fuel Stabiliser to protect families from the impact of future fuel price rises. Under this radical proposal, when fuel prices go up, duty will be reduced; and when prices drop, duty will rise.
And on Monday he guaranteed three wishes for everybody in England, lollipops all round and council houses made of gingerbread.
There are two things I am looking forward to in politics. The kicking that Mr Brown is going to get at some point in the next two years and the subsequent kicking that Mr Cameron is going to get five years after that. In between times, I’ll be turning the sound down.
July 7, 2008 at 21:58 #172164How can we be wasting food when i thought were going through an obesity epidemic.
And with the price of food going up all the time i dont think people would be able to buy enough food to waste anyway.
Quite amazing really when all world leaders had a massive banquet during a meeting to discuss world poverty and hunger which had old Bobby Mugabe wining and dining while most of his nation starved.
Maybe for one week all of those who dine at say the Ivy could give their table up and pay for a family in poverty to a luxury slap up tea
July 7, 2008 at 22:27 #172167All political affiliations and opinions aside, I am just staggered that not only could one of his advisors and/or speech writers suggest this might be a good idea in the current climate, but that they could actually release it – it beggars belief, it really does – can you imagine if over the next ten years there are dozens of examples of corruption proved within racing and then the BHB and bookies suggesting to punters that if they drank less they’d have more to gamble and that gambling is a lottery anyway ?
Is anyone offering odds on him retiring from politics within 24 mths as at this rate they will lose the opposition spot to the liberals and be out the frame for a decade at least and he won’t sit on the back benches for that, will he ?

It’s a very good point and something I’ve wondered about over the last few months. It isn’t just his public pronouncements, his performances in the Commons have been dire and you have to wonder about the calibre of the advisors. Blair wouldn’t have done anything different policy wise, but he’d have managed the PR side of things much more effectively.
At the moment, Brown is so discredited he is almost beyond the point of no-PR return. Drone’s suggestion of going for broke with some radical eye-catching policies is a good one, I think, certainly he has nothing to lose.
July 7, 2008 at 22:40 #172173It makes me wonder if he is over-ruling his advisors with his own "cunning plans" to turn things around, so embittered with a lack of trust he might be, perhaps ?
July 7, 2008 at 22:47 #172175I think you’re right – he allowed himself to be talked into letting the election speculation run on longer than he should have done last autumn (some of the younger and more slappable members of his team thought it would be a jolly wheeze to get Cameron on the run) and I don’t think he’s quite trusted them since. Hence the stories of his asking Blair for presentational advice, which is a staggering development, given their history. He could do worse than give Alastair Campbell a ring too.
Trouble is, even if he were to try and go with his convictions, I don’t think he really knows what he believes in any more. Blairism didn’t really exist outside the head of the former PM and if the current incumbent intends to survive he needs to work out what Brownism is.
July 7, 2008 at 22:51 #172178I really don’t think he has the time left, barring a swift Falklands he and his party are utterly doomed.
July 7, 2008 at 22:55 #172180There must be a small island somewhere we can pick a fight with. How about Australia? No, maybe New Zealand. Further to go but nice and damp so our tanks will still work.
I think team Brown are pinning their hopes on a Cameron cock-up (and I mean that literally and metaphorically). Hence their absurd glee at the situation over Boris’s deputy. If they think sleaze is going to come to their rescue, they are sadly mistaken.
July 7, 2008 at 23:00 #172182I realised a few weeks ago that we were throwing away an awful lot of food [ok; most of it went in the compost bin but, for the sake of economy we were throwing money away] and having had a chat with everyone in my house we do seem to have cut back on the amount of waste……forgetting about political allegiances perhaps we aught to have a rethink about how much we all waste on a regular basis……wonder what the reaction would have been if David Cameron had said it?
July 8, 2008 at 06:26 #172211I agree with the waste part Moe, but if Cameron or Clegg had of come out with this there would still have been quite some surprise with people perhaps saying "err, okay Dave/Nick, but don’t you think there are more important things going on at the moment ?"
It’s just a really strange thing to come out with, crazy timing and as one of the earlier posters suggested, maybe insulting to clowns to compare GB to one – my sincere apologies to all clowns everywhere.
