We could be heading for some unusual results especially Days 3 and 4 with the ground already riding gd/firm!
They will need rain as the watering will be soaked up by the wind and sunshine that has been booked

The majority of Irish runners prefer let alone need ‘cut’ so it may be time to re-evaluate some of the races and check out who likes faster ground!!
More homework
March 8, 2012 at 10:09 #395319Certainly looks like the prices on the total number of Irish winners next week look somewhat awry given the forecast. 4-6 winners @ 6/1 with Victor does have a pleasant look.
March 8, 2012 at 17:31 #395408Gord what you think of THE FUGUE showed a nifty change of gear to win maiden and 3rd was miles back. been money for her this week in the oaks but would not shock me if they go to Newmarket 1st.
March 9, 2012 at 09:16 #395480Prohibit looks to have a much better chance at the weights tomorrow. The only concern being whether he is fully wound up or just coming to a peak for World Cup night.
The quality of the fields for what is "out of season" racing rather disproves the myth that prize money is not important to owners.
March 9, 2012 at 22:14 #395617darren I’m sure we have discussed this filly
The Fugue
before.I believe she is a serious Oaks filly,I like these Lady Lloyd Webber fillies, always stoutly bred and being a Grand daughter of ‘Sadlers Wells’ she has a Stamina packed pedigree.John Gosden will keep her under wraps!
Eclipse are you keeping the faith withAlbaasil
tomorrow?
I have a tough decision to make withInxile
,
Prohibit
, and
Margot did
!
March 9, 2012 at 22:53 #395624As much as I like Albaasil, at the current odds he makes little appeal against some proven top level performers and running over an extra furlong. I cannot see him being good enough to win the race and should be at least twice his current odds anyway.
Margot Did seems better when she can get her toe in and she is entitled to come on for the outing whereas the others have race fitness on their side. The conditions suit Prohibit and he is sure to have benefited from his seasonal debut. Sole Power is lurking and Johnny Murtagh looks an interesting booking.
March 11, 2012 at 17:03 #395877We have talked about but i saw her being backed for oaks and still in 1000 guineas i think they run Elusive Kate in the French version. and may give THE FUGUE a run at newmarket where she won her maiden.
Another Gosden animal i like your thoughts on are NATHANIEL. i think he should be a cup horse as he lacks the speed to win big 1m4 races. i know he won the KG last year but that was a farce of a race.He got lot of stamina and got course form at Ascot and if they get soft ground he have a big chance in gold cup.
March 11, 2012 at 18:52 #395897Nathaniel will definitely be one of my horses to follow in 2012 and there is NO WAY he will be a cup horse. Farce of a race it may have been (as we now have to call any race in Britain where there is not a frantic gallop) but he still showed enough speed to persuade JG to run him in the Champion.
The only problem with this horse is he needs a bit of cut to be seen at his best but you will see him aimed at the Coronation, KG and Arc but NOT the Gold Cup.
"this perfect mix of poetry and destruction, this glory of rhythm, power and majesty: the undisputed champion of the world!!!"
March 11, 2012 at 22:41 #395921Nathaniel has only shown any form at Ascot when there is no firmness in the ground, until he produces some semblance of form elsewhere and an ability to act on better going he is best watched. The long range forecast is for a dry summer so he may need to venture abroad to return to the winner’s enclosure.
March 16, 2012 at 23:32 #397342Talking of loyalty this
First Lieutenant
is fast reminding me of the sort of season
Weapons Amnesty
had before he won the RSA Chase and i for one have not given up on him,i’m totally convinced he will find the nescessary improvement cometh the day, just like his owners previous winner did, admittedly Grand Crus looked the part at Kempton but he reminds me of
One Man
and he failed miserably against an old pal of mine called
Monsieur le Cure
in the race. No, i actually believe
Silvianico Conti
is a bigger threat to all in this years RSA but my colours are nailed to First Lieutenant and thats where they are staying!

Synchronised
would have won another Welsh National yesterday,we agree on that but to think that he could win the Lexus!
No I couldn’t see that one coming particularly on the official going of Good!
Being loyal i feel almost ashamed of myself as that performance suddenly says ‘Gold Cup horse’,WHAT? Seriously? Yes that was a solid round of jumping from a very tough little horse,Cheltenham will suit even better and obviously the ground poses no problems, mind you Leopardstown Good is Gd/Sft Cheltenham ground as for my only other Gold cup horse,Quito de la Roque
backed on betfair so not included in this thread!
All i will say is those who called him slow were bang on!Magnanimity
is still my Dark horse though.

£4750March 16, 2012 at 23:41 #397347Back to business,just had a word with TAPK and he agrees that
Medermit
has Ryanair written all over him,he says he’s just taken the 100’s about the Gold Cup too on the machine for a couple of quid.Having watched the replay of Saturdays race from several angles i do believe Medermit was an unlucky loser and if the field for this seasons Ryanair turned up now i would imagine 8/1 would be offered about his chances,he stayed on very well as did ‘Imperial Commander’ before winning both The Ryanair and Gold Cup,this fellow could easily be a Gold Cup horse too! 2013 hopefully.

£4150March 16, 2012 at 23:45 #397348To say this thread goes up hill and down dale would be an understatement but then again i always was one for the thrill of a rollercoaster. My analysis of yesterdays Big race (21/2m Gold Cup) epitomises everything that can go wrong with the Punters mindset when you have a run of losers.I suppose a lack of confidence would be the 1st symptom and that spirals downwards after loser becomes loser becomes loser, what inevitably happens to those who allow the mental factor to take over is they start chasing their losses and ultimately get themselves into a serious mess both financially and pyschologically, some even become addicted but that is generally the effect from Winning, there really is nothing like it.In reality a run of winners to someone who has just taken up Horseracing as a serious ‘hobby’ can be the ignition to their ultimate demise as the buzz factor from ‘Deciding selection,Staking to Winning’ is all about ones own personal choices,so the sense of credibilty and Self belief in Winning is sky high and as the saying goes ‘The higher you climb the further you fall’ and its all about learning to fall gracefully, that way,you get up dust yourself down and attempt to climb again.Having done just that for nearly 30yrs,i like to think i have the nescessary tools to return this thread from the doldrums,it would look good if over the year i plan to run it,it went from £10k up to £10k down to £10k up again.Being someone who likes to be positive about things,i know it wont be through lack of confidence in myself that turns things round,i’ll keep it REAL,Win Lose or Draw,i love it and having seen it reach over 30,000 views this morning, its very flattering that others are getting a laugh at my expense.Right then the Ryanair winner is
Medermit
and that is because i have backed ‘Thisthatandtheother’ ‘Fondmort’ ‘Our Vic’ ‘Taranis’ and the legend that is ‘Albertas Run’ twice, incredibly the only one i never backed Ante-Post was my Gold Cup winner ‘Imperial Commander’!

March 16, 2012 at 23:49 #397350I’ll tell ya something there’s some knowledgable folk read my drivel, having checked my e-mails today,I dont do it daily but i had 5 suggesting that had Emmit Mullins failed to get up on the line in the ‘Martin Pipe’ on
Sir Des Champs
would i have suggested that was the worse ride of the festival? Having watched both races again today,it has to be said that both
Beautiful Sound
and
Sir Des Champs
were both very similiarly ridden, basically out the back with too much to do.However Emmit miraculously got his mount up on the line, had he been beaten a head i would still have said it was a better ride than Jason Maguires as he never got his mount so close and yet he too ‘should’ have won so i’m sticking with my initial assessment!

March 16, 2012 at 23:56 #397351Good to see a positive report from Charles Byrnes regarding the wellbeing of my idea of next years Gold Cup winner,
Weapons Amnesty
,he was a one of those horses that come along when you say’just wait till he jumps a fence’ and he proved he is the real deal as not only does he jump efficiently he has a turn of foot after 3 miles,he does need good ground to be seen to best effect but he is a Cheltenham horse so that alone stands him in good stead for Cheltenhams Blue riband event, fingers crossed he comes back to his best. The horse i could compare favourably with this fellow at the same stage of their careers is this
First Lieutenant
,i like him a lot and the RSA has to be his target!

£1450March 17, 2012 at 10:09 #397401Its always difficult trying to gain the advantage over the Bookmaker when asessing a race Ante-Post style particularly a handicap, but my Number 1 rule is Trainers are creatures of habit and some are absolute masters at creating Smokescreens, unfortunately for the ‘Mug Punter’ they will drive themselves around in circles and fail to see the light through the fog.The appropriately named
Get me out of Here
is a horse who fits the bill perfectly, his shrewd trainer placed him superbly last season culminating in a sure fire victory in the county hurdle, the plan went 99% of the way to succeeding but the photo-finish went against him. This season It looks like Jon-Jo has targeted the Coral Cup rather than the County hurdle and I reckon he’ll get 11-10,the top weight being ‘Carlito Brigante’ on 11-12,it looks harsh on paper but this fellow has a touch of class.William Hills 12/1 wont last till the Weekend and come the day this fellow will go off a heavily backed 7/2fav!Watch this space!
