Horse racing is 90% interpretation so forever wait for something or somebody to offer you confirmation and you’ll spend your life betting at SP.
I’m confident WPM thinks Vautour won’t stay and while he’s taking out between 12 & 16% of the books that will give me an edge.
If I’m wrong come March then so be it.
Nice intro from Thistlecrack there btw.
I am not having a pop, I am simply making the distinction that you being confident Vautour won’t stay is a million miles from Willie actually saying he won’t stay. For all I know, you could be right.
Yes, very nice from Thistlecrack
October 25, 2016 at 20:32 #1268623I doubt Cue Card will hold his form another year, but would love to see it.
The real beast among them might be Thistlecrack. Given the stellar list we have, he is already 2nd fav with some bookies for the GC without having jumped a fence in public.
I’ve never backed him, but he has been the revelation of the season. That was a good World Hurdle and he came clear of everything with little more than a reins shake. He could be from another planet!
TAPK prides himself on the word Foresight and Joe too has been blessed with it,thats where our similarities end though eh Joe? Thistlecrack like Joe says is from another planet, that was a mighty impressive debut today irrelevant of the opposition or time of race he absolutely sauntered round. His jumping bordered on incredible,he looked like he was on springs even when getting in close. From a visual view he was faultless.
However come Cheltenham in March on good ground that high knee action and low head carriage could see him chin himself racing at a ‘Vautour’ gallop.I’m happy with my 10/1 about him but if last seasons Cue Card turns up there’s no way ‘Thistle’ has the experience to deal with his stable companions ability to toy with the opposition. So long as Colin Tizzard wins the 2017 Gold cup I’ll be happy either way.October 25, 2016 at 21:51 #1268635The low head carriage and high knee action disappeared during the race – Thistlecrack’s enthusiasm for the task ahead improves during his races. During his hurdles campaign last season, his action and form over the hurdles was never better than in the home straight and when most horses are tiring, he just devours the ground.
I expect that almost dressage style beginning to the race is due to his schooling and will be ironed out with racing experience.

Some horses just race like that. Certainly, it never did Burrough Hill Lad any harm.
October 25, 2016 at 23:50 #1268649I know some horses race like that but Thistlecrack’s head is up later in the race
Jonjo had one about a decade ago whose head was so low it could have been grazing. It might have been Day Du Roy
October 30, 2016 at 15:35 #1269514Quite impressed by Cue Card‘s run yesterday from the front. Quotes from connections seem to imply he may of been less fit than they thought.
Took some 14’s to win for the GC and a little of the 50’s for the triple crown
October 30, 2016 at 18:15 #1269562Dissapointed to not see More of That get a run out today on account of the going which was described as “beautiful ground, on the soft side of good”
I’m not sure what they were hoping for

Aye, perhaps a sign that they’re concerned still about his wind, despite two ops. To my eye, he has always raced like a horse who is uncomfortable. Shame, really. Had he been clean-winded could have been anything
November 3, 2016 at 19:03 #1270354VALSEUR LIDO 25/1
He is my gold cup bet he be trained for race may end up as best gigginstown chance for it and this trip is what he wants
November 13, 2016 at 08:36 #1272392Had a few pounds on the exchanges at between 200 and 100 on Saphir Du Rheu
Fair to say that he is currently sitting 20 lbs lower than what would be expected to compete against Cue Card and all at the moment.
Still some hope though that he can improve on last years performances to justify the high hopes held for him at the start of last year.
Had a soft palate operation during the Summer as the Trainer felt he was not finishing off his races last year. He stayed on well on his comeback run giving a progressive Antony nearly 2 ST at Ascot.
Was said by the trainer in his Stable Tour on Monday to of been ” as big as a Bull for that race and still needs to lose another 10 Kgs before Newbury.”
Off his current mark in the Hennessy nothing short of a Win will do, for him to have a chance in the GC.
Probably why someone laid him at 200’s i suppose. Here’s hoping
November 13, 2016 at 11:53 #1272436I’ve did the same Botchy, and have him 160’s to 260’s, as well as 300’s for The Hennessy/GC double.
November 13, 2016 at 11:56 #1272438Didn’t see anything to change my mind yesterday, and amazed that the 40’s is standing, that was a solid run yesterday.
November 14, 2016 at 20:26 #1272681I WOULD SO LOVE VROOM VROOM MAG TO RUN IN GOLD CUP. WOULD HAVE SOME 25/1 THAT WOULD DO FOR ME. BUT CANT SEE THAT HAPPENING PITY

It is rare indeed that I find myself agreeing with Lydia Hislop (The daft price of Thistlecrack, and the value of Djakadam)
November 16, 2016 at 14:26 #1272909As I see it Thistlecrack and Coneygree are by far the most likely winners. If you haven’t already done so now is the time to back Coneygree because if he makes a successful return that 10/1 quote will be more than cut in half.

That column is very consistent, lots of words but numerous bum steers, Djakadam is just another one.
November 16, 2016 at 15:59 #1272913Two major flies in the Gold Cup ointment are Coneygree and W Mullins. Would love to see the former stay sound, but that must be in serious doubt. As to Mullins, who knows?
Were it not for my confidence that Thistlecrack can beat whatever turns up anyway, I’d leave the race well alone.
