It is almost certainly not going to happen but I would like to see Cue Card run in a World Hurdle. He was always ridden for a change of pace over hurdles. In hindsight if he had been sent on perhaps the results might have been different. I don’t think he is ever going to win a Gold Cup but it would be a unique achievement to add a Grade 1 Hurdle victory to his bumper and chase wins at the Festival.
January 25, 2014 at 21:01 #466035Silviniaco Conti and bobsworth for me

I do adore cue card but not sure the gold cup would suit him

January 28, 2014 at 17:34 #466351Cue Cards finish in the King George seemed to bad to be true for me, is it possible the Tizzards had him a bit short of fitness deliberately? Bobs Worth and Conti are both going to be tough to beat whether he see’s the trip out or not, but them two aside I can’t see anything else finishing in front of CC so ill be having a decent bet on him E.W.
Looking through the outsiders a part of me really wishes Tidal Bay would run, I notice hes around 66s with some firms unlike most of the others at that price hes a horse you could see not just running into a place but actually winning. All irrelevant of course as unless PN does a u turn its going to be World Hurdle / National!
January 28, 2014 at 22:15 #466389I thought the same thing about Cue Card. Kempton isn’t a tough 3miles (even given heavy going) but to stop the way he did made me think something may have been amiss with him.
Tizzard’s string had its problems through Nov/Dec. Maybe he wasn’t quite getting home?
I still have doubts about 3m2f from the front, but wouldn’t be surprised if he’s a lot closer come March 14th.
January 31, 2014 at 20:24 #466638today said they are leaning more towards the gold cup with cue card, although he will be entered for this and Ryanair, if ground where to come up heavy then they would revert back down to Ryanair chase

February 1, 2014 at 11:52 #466753Shame that Sir Des Champs won’t be lining up in this again. I still fancy Bobs Worth, really tough horse and just one which I cannot fail to like. Nothing flashy, but a really good horse, a nice sort and a very likable horse. Hope he manages to win a second Gold Cup come March.

February 2, 2014 at 18:51 #466895Madness if Cue Card runs here, how does he out-stay Bobs Worth?!
February 3, 2014 at 16:59 #466973I prefer to wait for the official list of final contenders before having a clear opinion of what I expect from this race. But based on what I’ve seen during the first part of this season, Bobs Worth may be really tough to beat again. That is a surprise to nobody. Cheltenham is his racecourse…
February 8, 2014 at 14:33 #467519Hopefully the last we’ll hear of Al Ferof going for the Gold Cup.
February 12, 2014 at 17:02 #467875Hi guys
For me Bobs Worth is a Cheltenham horse and a Cheltenham horse only. He has the profile of a good galloper and seems to find more and more on a track like Cheltenham, beating tired rivals along the way.
For me it is between the first two in the betting. This years race lacks strength in-depth.February 22, 2014 at 21:45 #468870Al Ferof is the one that currently jumps out at me from the current prices. Won the Paddy Power quite cosily, surely how well he comes back from the injury is the only thing that would stop him getting a place?
Also been looking for a price for On His Own can’t seem to find one, probably as he is unlikely to head to the gold cup but mullins ran Hedgehunter before and OHO has a bit of class about him winning a grade 2 hurdle, possibly the horse isnt suited to Aintree, another one id fancy for a place.
Another good performance by On His Own today, Mullins saying he may now miss Aintree to go to Punchestown for the Gold Cup. Think Mullins is going for the wrong Gold Cup, I’d really fancy him if he were to head to Cheltenham.
February 22, 2014 at 21:55 #468872He’d need to find another two stone at least.
I know Mullins is good but blimey

We shall see On His Own supplemented.

Danny, I think you’re right. Mullins is the last trainer to think his geese are swans. To put him in at a cost of 30k against some very smart horses, well, he shouldn’t be anything like the current 50s he is on Betfair. On Mullins’ judgement alone, no matter what form he’s shown, he’s worth a tenner at that price imo
March 8, 2014 at 21:00 #470477I added him to the market on Betfair, way last summer
I wish they’d supplemented him last season though, would have been very welcome
March 8, 2014 at 22:00 #470485Maybe the owners just want a runner in the race, and they’ve certainly got enough money to supplement.
