Im a bit underwhelmed by this years field :(
A few points
1. why is Cover up 33’s and Tungsten 7’s? Cover has had is emasure on good ground up to now
2. Yeats is interesting. Was a derby fav! But what are the vibes?
3. Distinction the least distinguished favourite in this race for a while?
I might side with teh Godolphin runner. Looks like she has needed further and this is a race they love to target. Back in form too
June 17, 2006 at 19:27 #73161That should be Cover had his measure
Dozy today :)
June 17, 2006 at 19:45 #73162Tungsten Strike’s Henry II form has been vastly overrated in some quarters. He basically beat horses that failed to act on the going, didn’t stay or are out of form. Considering Distinction was runner-up last year, has no Westerner to beat and no new talent at the trip has emerged (bar Sergeant Cecil arguably) he’s a deserved favourite but at 2/1 I’m happy to swerve the race alltogether.
June 17, 2006 at 22:45 #73163The gold cup has always been a lucky race for me. I like Reefscape in this years race. Laid out for this race, will appreciate every yard of the 2 1/2 mile trip (has won over 2 1/2 miles in France) and is trained by the master frenchman. Connections are brimming with confidence too. I respect the chances of Distinction but if the weather forecasters are correct and there is rain on Wednesday then the ground may not be quick enough for that horse. Sergeant Cecil is an admirable sort but IMO will find one or two too good. ÂÂÂ

Presumably Cover Up is that price because there is a doubt about him lining up. If he runs, he will be much shorter and looks sure to be in the frame to me. Apparently he has a decent record in staying events at Ascot.
June 18, 2006 at 18:19 #73165trackside… Does he have agood Speed figure though :o
Interesting comments there re Reefscape ….
June 22, 2006 at 16:23 #73166Thought Guadalajara was a touch unlucky, nearly falling on the bend into the home straight. She wouldn’t have won but may well have placed. Look out for her over 2m on soft in future
June 22, 2006 at 18:24 #73167Didn’t see the race, but heard it on the radio, and it sounded like the early pace wasn’t that strong.
But a five length win easing up suggests he would have won even with a strong gallop, though it’s probable that his best distance is a little shorter than 2 1/2 miles.
No doubt this demonstration of versatlilty at the highest level has well and truly buggered up his chances of a career as a flat stallion, but any horse that can win Group 1s a mile apart in distance deserves the best patronage at stud.
A fine training performance by AOB after an 8 month lay-off with a horse not easy to train.

If so..may i be the first to say that the form is absolute rubbish and that the horse is a toital disgrace
Not that i believe that of course ;)
June 22, 2006 at 20:55 #73169Hilarious Clivex. Presumably you are of the opinion then that High Action has clearly improved and was a stone bonking cert had connections run him in the Ascot Stakes from a mark that would have been about a stone well in.
Interesting to see that RPR have High Action running about 20lbs above his normal level of form. Fitting the ratings to the race, for a change?

It’s either that or have the rest of the field running well below form. Was Yeats 20lb below form or was High Action flattered in seeming to run above himslef having been able to dictate a far from sound gallop?

I am not at all sure what your point is, but form for me looks pretty good thank you :)
Classy animal that proved it could stay beat last years runner up comfortably. it was an excellent performance after such a long lay off and its going to be hard to see what will beat him in these races this year
Whether High Point was 7, 11 or 30 lengths away hardly matters to me frankly. KF just won as he pleased.

Surely it matters if assessing that horse’s chance next time.
June 23, 2006 at 12:47 #73174Don’t know about that, there aren’t many 2m4f races on the calendar
June 23, 2006 at 12:59 #73175Dj
What are you trying to say DJ? tahts the Gc form is tarnished because a 100/1 shot finished midfield?
Does it really matter if he finishes 7th or 13th? Well beaten horses can finish anywhere

How often are you often going to get "sound gallops" over this particular distance?
