1st and 2nd in both Group 1s today – nice to see the Boys in Blue truly back in form. I’m a huge critic of them but seeing these 2 superpowers up against each other is truly brilliant for racing.
September 25, 2010 at 18:26 #319330Exactly why is it brilliant?
The Ballydoyle scattergun approach that makes Clive Brittain look astute?
Godolphin’s perpetual purchase and ruinisation of good horses?
Wonderful stuff!!

Churlish words sir, on a day when Godolphin deservedly win two important Group 1’s on the same card, for the first time in yonks. Well done them. Suroor (or whoever) has brought Poet’s Voice back to the top in a way which is impressive. A lovely horse and a heartening success.
September 25, 2010 at 18:54 #319343Exactly my point. Not a great return on their investment is it? Hardly likely to set the bloodstock world on fire.
As for the other lot it seems to be a case of let’s see how many darts, purchased via our ill-gotten gains, we can throw at the dartboard before one hits the bulls eye.
If that constitutes excitement, bring back Cliff Thorburn.

Not a good example at all – Cliff Thorburn was an absorbing player, mesmerising indeed, unless you insisted on the
wham-bam-thank-you-mam
school of snooker. A careful craftsman is always good to watch.
And your characterisation of Coolmore is a snide caricature which bears no relation to reality. This derided "dart board" approach regularly wins them Group 1’s with horses that we (but maybe not they) don’t expect. Today they got 2nd and 4th, which would be hailed as a triumph for any other trainer.
Raining on today’s parade is mean.
September 25, 2010 at 19:46 #319350Both the QEII and the fillies race were superb races, Nogbag, and precisely what attracted me to this game.
Why do you care what potential value Poets Voice may be to the bloodstock industry, from where you stand as a punter/racing fan? Your moments of excitement in racing must be very few and very far between if that’s all that matters!
Godolphin have been slowly getting their act together this year, and it’s great for so many wholesome reasons, but not for their haters, who I find to be a strange bunch.
They ruin horses
September 25, 2010 at 20:03 #319356Delighted for Godolphin. No racing stable gives more back to ordinary fans of the sport.
September 25, 2010 at 21:08 #319372Nice to see Godolfin and Henry come back the same year. Their haydays had been slipping into the fog of my memory.Like waking up to find the dream is still alive.
By the way; what do you call a minor diatribe(like one paragraph)?September 25, 2010 at 21:37 #319374While I don’t understand why Ballydoyle seem to draw such hate (if you have so many Gp 1 horses why shouldn’t they run them in the same race, I don’t see critisim of Mark Johnson running x horses in a handicap). Both are going to run about 250 horses this yr and if it wasn’t for either of them many group races would look very thin.
Horse racing, in my view is about the horses and quality of racing not just the betting. Today was Godolphin’s day and this must be good for the sport, as in any sport that has two big rivals this draws crowds and newspaper space.September 25, 2010 at 21:45 #319375The title seems a little melodramatic.Godolfin v Ballydoyle! Rather uneven contest don’t you think. Once the Ballydoyle group decide what horses to train they for the most part then close the barn door.I admit they have taken the odd horse to train from Australia.Where as Godolphin never close the barn door.Godolfin buy, train and run horses of all ages throughout the world, Ballydoylr train in RoseGreen Tipperary. That is the Ballydoyle operation. Godolfin is providid money by the nation of Dubai, supremely rich.Ballydoyle’s startup resources could not match that; an Irish farmer’s son, the English number’s player and young John Magnier.Hardly comparable in riches. So what levels the playing field? Is it the "eye for a horse"?That would be young John Magnier. When I see Ballydoyle V Godolphin I think of David V Goliath.Let the (battle)rivalry be joined.
October 16, 2010 at 17:41 #322808A fantastic day of racing at Newmarket today, particularly for those who are capable of looking beyond the boredom that both Ballydoyle and Godolphin bring to the sport!
October 16, 2010 at 18:48 #322820Yes indeed the rivalry between Stouty and Henry is so much more fun is it not?Every twenty years.
October 16, 2010 at 19:01 #322822I am absolutely convinced that Sheikh Mohammed would have done a much better job in competing with the Coolmore guys if he had put the level of resources that have been lavished on the Godolphin operation, and maintained the services of Henry Cecil and Michael Stoute.
October 16, 2010 at 19:48 #322827Not on Henry for the last 10 years unless they got him to move yards. They certainly need Stouty more than he needs them But I totally agree,in fact they could have helped many good local trainers and been a power in the English racing scene rather than just in the buying scene. They left New Approach with Bolger for his 3yo racing and won the Derby.Look at the success they have with Gosden and Johnston to mention but two.Forgive me if I get the Dubai Arabs mixed up but I believe the AlMactoom family is who Godolphin is.The Princess, I believe races in the deep green color with the red cap.So there has been some small effort to widen the field.

You’re either pissed, clueless or a combination of both.
October 17, 2010 at 03:42 #322868Hi Nogbadthe Nog,probably the latter. But I don’t believe i started this thread.I just fed off the bad vibes.Remember the golden rule "never wrestle with a pig".

I’m a Sir Michael Stoute man through and through and a huge fan of Henry Cecil. How our Mick has a knighthood and Henry doesn’t is beyond belief and an absolute disgrace. HM should extract the finger and correct that asap.
However Coolmore V Godolphin – Not to be confused with AOB v FRankie = No contest.
Bunch of pigheaded arabs can’t even come to the conclusion that taking horses out of their natural enviroment and dropping them into the desets doesn’t work.
Takes forever to get going, they never have a decent guineas challenger. Typical of rich spoilt, stubborn people call it what you like but give their money and facilities to someone like Richard Fahey, Richard Guest, John Quinn etc with a free hand and any of them would do better than what they do.
Coolmore by a mile for me.
