I was at Ayr yesterday through business and was 100% certain Surrey Quest had got up. I was gutted when the result was called as I’d tipped Surrey Quest to my colleagues. I couldn’t believe he was 40-1 in the morning. For a few short minutes I was a tipping master. I’d tipped the same guys Scottie Scheffler to win the masters last week (tbh wasn’t the most difficult bet to find. He was red hot favourite and head and shoulders the best golfer in the world just now. 11/2 was short but still value). Also followed you in on Hamish. I’m a novice at the horse racing, however I love it if after studying a race and making a tissue I log on here to find you’ve put up the same horse as I’ve selected :)

If you’ve got a Betway account then apparently 25/1 is still available, but I only quote the well known bookies.

Reading between the lines, TheNovice… Timeform seem to think Surrey Quest would’ve won without a blunder at the 20th fence. As the Italian bloke on Allo Allo used to say, whatamistakeatomakea.

He had every chance GT. I’ve not watched the race back but from my vantage Surrey Quest got his nose in front 20 yards from the line and the Mullins horse responded. Don’t know if Macdermott was idling (or just tiring after 4 miles) but he definitely seemed to respond when he saw Surrey Quest get level with him. Surrey Quest also had the rail which I was hoping would’ve been the advantage he required. Anyway no complaints. It was a great finish to the race.

Fair point TheNovice, Macdermot did seem to idle.

I’ve finally managed to watch the Aintree Grand National back a few times in the last couple of days. Of all the horses I thought would not be suited to the race – jumping, staying and temperament – only one horse did better than expected. I Am Maximus. Well, Ain’t That A Shame ran well but still not good enough to be in the first five. Am amazed the winner got such an easy time of it on the inner, seldom with anything jumping with him. Those I expected to run well pretty much did… Bar Corach Rambler and although he is a good jumper, any horse can fall at the first when going too fast.

    So am not too discouraged.
The Grand National hes always been a race I’ve done well in over the years and expect it to be the same in the future.

What’s your thoughts on the mile Mark?

I’d worry about the ground with Charyn and I think the run behind Paddington is a bit flattered due to the strong pace.

Struggling with this one. Lord north down in trip is hard to assess. Plenty of pace on though.

Israr was 3/1 by the time I put the above bet up, but there is some 4.3 available on the machine.
