2016 Grand National
21 points @ 25/1 (PP) Many Clouds* (min 18/1)Handicapper has said he’ll probably give Many Clouds a mark of 167 (7 lbs more than he ran off yesterday). Suspect he’ll race off that mark, without the usual bringing the top weights marks down; inconcievable to raise him less than Saint Are. But even so it seems to under-estimate what he achieved. Jumps impeccably, stays, capable of carrying big weights, goes on good as well as soft and still improving. If 2016 does not attract more top quality horses then it’s likely some of the 40 horses will be out of the handicap (top weight 167 instead of 161) so increasing the chances of top weights winning.
The 167 also probably mean Saint Are will be well handicapped and is improving fast. Better at Aintree than anywhere else. Jumping improved significantly, will get in the handicap.
17 points @ 33/1 (FD) Saint Are* (min 25/1)

5 points @ 25/1 (B365) Royale Knight (min 20/1)Value Is EverythingApril 25, 2015 at 11:22 #918586Algernon Pazham 20/1 is massive. Being out of the handicap puts a lot of punters off, but he’s got scope to improve over this trip and has a better conditional on today, with a bigger claim. Stable have hit form in the last few days. Also backed Grand Jesture. The way he stayed on at Cheltenham in the 3m handicap was a big step forward. Royale Knight is worth a small bet too, moved well for a long way in the Grand National. Price makes it worth taking a chance he’s over that run. Steadily progressive.
Saved on: Le Reve could yet improve upped in distance here. Vics Canvas Walsh on board, impressive winning Cork Grand National, and Wonderful Charm difficult to know if he’ll stay, but equally hasn’t had the chance to showw what he can do at the trip, worth a saver at 20’s+.
The others: Rocky Creek is not as well handicapped now and best fresh, not here. Bobs Worth has shown nothing of late. Unioniste bad fall at Aintree puts me off. Nicholls is good at refreshing them, could run well at this trip but needs to improve to win. The Package best very fresh, not here. Bally Legend not well enough handicapped, doubtful stayer. Lost Legend is inconsistent. Just A Par is a dog. Grandad’s Horse out of form and doubtful stayer. Ely Brown has had his physical problems since showing his form. Roalco Des Farges imo doesn’t find enough off the bridle to win a race like this. Return Spring has disappointed in big fields recently. Duke Of Lucca seems at his best at Aintree. Paint The Clouds has scope to do better, but at this trip? Just how much ability Guess Again still has for Mr “Lay one Out” Martin remains to be seen.
Value Is EverythingApril 27, 2015 at 00:51 #922280Well, every “dog” has its day.
I gather Bet 365 and many more bookies are giving money back on Grand Jesture. Although advising the bet on bet365, my own personal wager was on betfair, so no such luck. Two savers second and third. Winner Just A Par is normally outpaced and sometimes does not want to know, but dropped out the back had everything falling in to place. Staying on from the back in a race run at an overly strong pace. Le Reve in third doing well to keep on as well as he did having been up there throughout.Somersby ran one of his lesser races, not jumping well enough. Not one I should’ve trusted and began to regret it towards race time. Had a late saver on the winner.
I’ve been following Menorah this season (since Wetherby), Betfair, King George, ante-post on Ryanair. Finally got some money out of him. Although probably did not need to be at his best.
