January 18, 2026 at 13:08 #1750936Resplendent Grey 9-1.
The more I know the less I understand.
January 18, 2026 at 14:58 #1750962Handstands for me (he’s in my TTF), hope the wind op has done the job.
January 18, 2026 at 15:15 #1750964What a bold brave horse Protektorat is. In his element there.
January 18, 2026 at 15:16 #1750965I thought he ran well , only horse tonnage a go at the winner and giving weight I just imagine they won’t be to gutted

January 19, 2026 at 09:19 #1751008Lovely to see the old boy win that. Wouldn’t be massively surprised if they make an entry in the National – he’d be a bold sight dashing along in front and there’s no worry about the fences anymore.
Resplendent Grey and Handstands both ran well giving weight, and probably achieved a rating in the 160-165 range. I think that justifies both of them having a go in what is a really open and interesting Gold Cup this year.January 19, 2026 at 09:51 #1751016Protektorat has won this race twice, a Ryanair, a Betfair Chase, a Grade 1 novice at Aintree and been placed in a Gold Cup. What a great horse he must be to own. Harry Skelton spoke well about him on SSR yesterday.
January 19, 2026 at 21:16 #1751063Why is it called Fleur de Lys? I keep thinking of the pies they used to sell in fish and chip shops in my youth…
January 20, 2026 at 07:22 #1751090The Fleur De Lys is a heraldic symbol, most famous for being part of the French monarch’s coat of arms.
The English monarchy claimed the French crown from the mid 14th century to the early 19th century and incorporated the symbol into its coat of arms.
Maybe that has something to do with it but it seems a rather obscure reason for the name for a horse race.
January 20, 2026 at 07:45 #1751091AI Overview
The Fleur De Lys Chase at Royal Windsor Racecourse is named after the symbolic lily flower, a historic emblem of French royalty, linking the race to traditional grandeur, purity, and divine right, though the race itself is a modern jump race for horses, sponsored by sponsors like Fitzdares, featuring top chasers like Protektorat, and celebrates royalty through its name and prestigious location at the historically rich Windsor.
So it looks as if it’s all down to Windsors poshness. I’m still hankering after a steak and kidney pie, though. Think I’m going to have to forget about my cholesterol lowering diet for a day and have one for me tea.January 20, 2026 at 08:10 #1751092The race was run at Lingfield initially. A nice place but not quite as posh and regal as Windsor!
