Can’t believe they’ve not paid me out.April 23, 2010 at 17:21 #291980AnonymousInactive- Total Posts 17716
In fairness its not the bookmakers fault.
Danny Cook took the wrong course.
The course also is a total sham with flag wavers.
Why should the bookies pay out for others incompatencies??
You need to look at banning Danny Cook for a very very very very very very long time. Perhaps not his own fault, but he should not be allowed to ride horses and carry punters money when making such mistakes. He did it at Cheltenham, he did it here. He needs a long time ban
April 23, 2010 at 17:23 #291983You’ve contradicted yourself. You suggest what happened wasn’t his fault, yet you want him punished?
It wasn’t my fault either. The bookmakers should pay me out.

When I say it wasnt his fault I guess I am trying to say that because there is so much racing, it leads to a need for so many jockeys, in turn leading to several terrible jockeys, its not his fault that he is so bad, thats just how he is, but he still should get banned for a lengthy time..
It should not be swept under the carpet, he should be made an example of. Ban him either for 6 months or a year. He already took the wrong course already this year. You cant have jockeys of his standard making such mistakes.
We are trying to attract newcomers to the sport not put them off right?
I made a point on this forum that it doesnt take much to be a jockey and I was slated for it. This for me (just my opinion) highlights the fact that there is too much racing leading to the requirements for too many jockeys, in turn leading to the decline in jockey standards..
Any new viewer to the sport (especially if they had there first ever bet) will more than likely laugh at the sport and never return.
April 23, 2010 at 17:33 #291988I paid out on Tabaran as soon as they crossed the line. Even signed a bit of paper to say I’d give up gambling if Gaspara kept the race
Agree about Danny Cook, he blatantly steered wide, clear for all to see. He’s made 2 high profile mistakes now & maybe needs a year out of the game so he can read the rule book & study maps of every racecourse.

Its harsh when things like this happens, but Danny Cook is an adult at the end of the day..
He might be trying his best and putting 100% but the fact remains he has made two braindead mistakes in one season and he should pay the price. If you make these version of errors in your own place of work – usually you are faced with disciplinary action, why should racing be any different.
The interesting thing is he has not learnt from his previous ban, proof if ever it was needed that the whole banning structure needs re addressing, this proves it does not work…
The old saying "its 90% horse" really is fading fast….
April 23, 2010 at 17:38 #291991So what happened? Why did he miss the 2nd last?

Thats not being rude but it really was unbelievable..

Ive asked paddy power before for a price on a jockey to take the wrong course at Southwell and Wolverhampton.
They wont price it but i wouldnt be suprised one day…April 23, 2010 at 17:58 #291999Is there a link to atr, please?
I listened to the race as I have been a long time Gaspara fan. Poor girl had her rating increased by a ludicrous amount after her win at Cheltenham which I happened to be at. Was there to watch Straw Bear!
One question
1. Who would have won if Gaspara had jumped the hurdle? The ‘winning’ margin was 1/2 lenght? No I didn’t back her this time just interested. Blinkers and silly weight worked or should have!
April 23, 2010 at 18:01 #292001Men were waving flags – I guess to wave them round the screens (very sad that yet another horse broke his leg on the flat … RIP Future Vision)… which were VERY obviously needed to be avoided and no arrows in the hurdle so the hurdle was actually OK to jump … but I think you have to have abit of thought for the jockeys who went round the hurdle – they obviously thought they were doing the right thing and made a split minute decision to do so – maybe they thought the arrows hadn’t been put in the hurdle because of not enough time to do that???

I would be amazed if anyone could make a case that Gaspara wouldnt of won, she lost 3/4 lengths going around the hurdle, she would of won fact.
By the way Cook did ride a nice race there but please dont let that overshadow the incident, he still must be dealt with….
You need to log onto ATR to view to race mate
April 23, 2010 at 18:03 #292004Why has RP got Gaspara down as PU???? Surely it should be 1st disq???
It’s now been corrected.April 23, 2010 at 18:06 #292006Dear lord what a complete **** up of a race. Not just Cook but what was happening behind him with jocks veering about.
Was Orion Express’ fall at that hurdle fatal? It looked awful, he never took off. I know the other horse, Future Vision, was put down.
April 23, 2010 at 18:07 #292007Gaspara should have kept that race. It was too confined an area with the screen up to have them jump the hurdle.
April 23, 2010 at 18:16 #292009I think Orion Express got up OK – but it was a horrible fall. Poor Future Vision I now think broke his hind leg by knocking the hurdle rather than on the flat. It caused quite alot of problems with falls/unseats, horses going one way then the other – why didn’t they doll the hurdle off then there would have been no confusion – too many jockeys not sure what to do with the result the horses were all over the place and there could well have been another fatality caused by the confusion …

The whole was a total mess alright, but we have seen it all before.
How many wrong courses have been taken this year, countless. The lesson to be learnt here is racing wont change.
If you were a newcomer to racing today –
"Oh look how big the horse numbers are, but why is that jockey going around the hurdle, I thought they were all supposed to jump them, I still win my bet dont I?"
Racing Wont Change need to look at the basics rather than getting carried away with numbers, websites, media training…
Id love to see the advice given on how to address the media over these issues..
