Now I see he was demoted to 3rd. Did Durcan pull a shotgun out and shoot the second. I’ll be very interested to see the racing replay when I get home later.

What a superb effort by a horse written off both verbally and tactically race-wise.
I’m very happy for him to be carrying my money for the Arc.
I’d be surprised if he went to The Arc, if he went he’d be a good bet on the day so I wouldn’t venture antepost as I suspect Spanish Moon would be more of the candidate with him not being able to race in Britain.
I don’t think Doctor Fremantle was written off by SMS.
I know Schiaparelli was, the horse I’m referring to.
And yes Brendan, I didn’t catch the interview on Racing UK but they said Simon Crisford declared he wouldn’t run a lick. Punters reacted accordingly.
He was wrong by along way which is not good Mutheeb 9/1 EW is my main bet this week and he fancies it.

The demotion was fully justified, brendanr.
Ted Durcan allowed Schiaparelli to drift (although, in fairness, he did have his whip in his right hand) markedly across the course, denying Alwaary an otherwise clear run and almost putting him through the fence.
The then third, now runner-up, was extremely unlucky.
July 10, 2009 at 00:10 #238799Funny sort of race wasn’t it? Duncan was too short, pulled too hard and didn’t get home, Campanologist couldn’t dominate and didn’t figure, All The Aces wants softer and further.
The winner won’t win an Arc if he starts now.
July 10, 2009 at 00:23 #238801I’ll drive you to Dover Colin and we can jump together.
I’m not as unhappy as you must be but sick nonetheless. He’s one of my main horses to follow this season and while I backed him I too was a bit put off by his last effort. Won’t see 8/1 about him for a long time unless he run against Sea the Stars in the Juddmonte then we wont want it
Thanks for the offer, Fist, but I’m fairly laid back about it really. It was my decision & you have to take it on the chin when that happens. I did manage to have a few £’s matched on him at 10/1 on Betfair, but that just about covered my stake on Duncan. So it could have been worse, but it could have been so much better. I know next time to stick with my instincts.
I guess that most Duncan backers knew they were in trouble after a few furlongs. I can understand some uses for betting in running now, I would have loved to have laid back my Duncan bet soon after they started! I do have a theory that maybe his huge Coronation Cup run hurt him & he’s been left a bit scarred by it. He didn’t look a happy horse to me.
Ironic really that the winner was the one that was supposedly not going to settle & then fail to get home, he did, but the favourite didn’t.
July 10, 2009 at 02:53 #238832It would be very very interesting if jockeys had microphones on their silks and we could hear what they were saying as Richard Hills looked to be absolutely fuming with Durcan here.
Watch the RUK replay and it’s clear that Hills wants an ‘exchange’ with Durcan inches after Alwaary has crossed the line.
I think Alwaary could improve to be a very very good 3YO.
July 10, 2009 at 04:22 #238838It’s a race that suits stayers and as such, he’s been flattered by his finishing position.
There were only 3 stayers in the field beforehand; Doctor Fremantle (ran in the Leger), All The Aces and Enroller (both soft ground dependent).
They finished 1st, 5th and 4th before Enroller was demoted.
The only Group 1 he should be running in this year is the St. Leger.
July 10, 2009 at 16:11 #238915Doctor Fremantle, a stayer Zarkava? No way.
Ajdal ran in the Derby for the same trainer, did not make him a middle distance horse did it?
I know you mean a "stayer" at the particular trip of 1m4f, but you know what I mean.
Dr Fremantle failed to stay in the Leger, can pull hard at 1m4f and barely gets that trip unless he settles.
Alwaary travelled well in the race yesterday. Not saying he won’t get the Leger trip, but it did not look to me like a horse needing a trip.
Value Is EverythingJuly 10, 2009 at 17:25 #238940Well they obviously believed he had enough stamina to get 1m 6 1/2f and that was good enough for me to back him.
