I was indeed on Shamalgan

Lovely double on a Sunday for you though Zen
July 26, 2010 at 09:30 #308784Not bad! Lol!
Cheers!
Couldn’t believe his price (Sham) Irish…all we needed was one from the AOB stable to make the prices that much better!

We won’t be following your namesake anymore…off to HK I see…

P.S. forgot to say did you see the ‘Bench’ that day?
July 26, 2010 at 09:37 #308785Daryakana She stuff Workforce

Well Darren – you got that bit right!

Not many saw that!
July 26, 2010 at 12:03 #308818Who’s my namesake?

Yeah I saw the Bench win again – only time I backed him is the only time he’s got beat this season.
On to Flo Jo next month now I think
July 26, 2010 at 13:49 #308843Martin – ‘Flo’ won well from that draw yesterday – Deauville next?!

Your part namesake run v good today whilst dropping back in trip…

Missed out the ‘part’!

Was hoping Delcher-Sanchez would run him in the Morny (Presume it’s Irish Field you’re refering to)
July 26, 2010 at 14:42 #308849Yeah!

Time for some more confusion…

with ‘lost in translation’ and a saying that I’ve never heard before!

Stephane Pasquier on ‘Fuisse’ after his win in the Price Messidor:
"Stephane Pasquier, the jockey was delighted:" It feels good. When you have a horse like this one, we avoid let go. He has a tremendous quality. It is powerful but when he takes the advantage, I suspect to be arrested.

Brilliant.July 26, 2010 at 17:19 #308893Toad has got rough skin, so it would set the matches off when it moved a little?
Rather opposite to the story of putting a frog in cold water and boiling it, and the frog not leaving, whilst if you put a frog in boiling water it will leap out straightaway.
August 8, 2010 at 08:44 #311656Well…I never!
Bit like the story of the guy who inflated frogs with the use of a straw!

For the entertainment of the ‘Flo Jo’ nut!

Prix Maurice de Gheest
The Prix Maurice de Gheest held up the show this Sunday, August 8 at the Deauville racecourse. The group I was first staged in unusual distance of 1300 meters straight. Marked by the tripling of the famous gray Marchand d’Or in 2006, 2007 and 2008, this classic should still provide a spectacle of choice this year. Joanna, third for his first two attempts in Group I, is a great opportunity to pick up the grail.
Analysis:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bNNfAuMq-M0
From Hope, Joanna gives selflessly to his entourage and its licensees. She never reached further than the third of nine public appearances! His record speaks for itself: six wins, two in Italy and four in France (a "Group II" and three "Group III"), a small prize of honor and two third places. And in the Prix Marcel Boussac (Group I) and the Hen Testing Fillies (Group I). No less!In other words, the daughter of High Chaparral comes with legitimate ambitions at the start of the Prix Maurice de Gheest. But the opposition will be big!
Suffice to say that the show looks beautiful in this event which is one of the true highlights of the meeting Deauville. And a goal for coaches and owners who take their students on top for the big day J for Joanna? Answer Sunday …
August 8, 2010 at 09:43 #311669A.de Royer Dupre:
In the Prix Maurice de Gheest, Group I 1,300 m played on Sunday, August 8 at Deauville, Alain de Royer Dupre rely on Varenar and War Artist to shine. Chantilly Coach told us his impressions of the approach of this great event.
Has he recovered well from his efforts?
He has recovered very well from his last two races, he is in great shape. It is a competitor who took the job this year. In the Prix Maurice de Gheest, he has a chance but a soft ground would be an advantage for him.
War Artist has just won with authority in the Prix de Ris-Oranges (Group III). Can you tell us about the competitor you train recently?
In his last outing, he became easily. It’s a good horse. Unlike Varenar, should not the trail becomes too soft for him. He needs good ground to express yourself. Also note that War Artist is more horse than 1,200 m 1,300 m
What is your goal with War Artist?
The main goal is the weekend of the Arc de Triomphe. It should participate in the Prix de l’Abbaye de Longchamp, Group I on the 1,200 m. But again, it will not be that the ground is too deep.
Returning to the Prix Maurice de Gheest. Do you have a preference between your two representatives?
It’s hard to pronounce. These are two competitors from a level fairly close. At Ascot in June, they finished very close to each other. I think the running of the race and the terrain will make the difference Sunday.
What do you think of the opposition?
I have not watched too much opposition. The Group I is a target for Varenar War Artist and so I am not too dwelt on the opposition. However, I think we mostly fear the foreigners and the filly Jean-Claude Rouget, Joanna.

Not a bad bit of summing up by Dupre there…and a good run from a 3yr old!

There is debate elsewhere about the strength of the current crop of middle distance 3 yr olds.
Last year it was widely felt that in France they had a bad lot – yet ‘Cav Man’ was able to run a place in the Arc!

This year the feeling was that they had a much better bunch of 3 yr olds…

if we take out the ‘shock’ win/performance of Harbinger in the King George – then what are we to make of these 3yr olds against solid yardsticks over the classic distance?

There might be a lesson to be learnt from last year perhaps?
August 10, 2010 at 11:35 #312012Re: ‘Dary’
it’s something to note with Dupre – I’m sure that he likes taking advantage of weight for age!

If one is good enough…
It seems as though my suspicion above was right re: ‘Daryakana’ and that her run in the King George was probably as good as she is.

Many feel that she and others run below form…
but she doesn’t seem to have improved from last year – and they have failed to notice something re: ‘Dary’….
When she ran in Hong Kong (16th Dec) she was basically a 4 yr old (ok not fully developed) getting the 3yr old weight allowance – foaled 1st Jan…

so a shrewd piece of planning & race placing it turned out to be!
August 11, 2010 at 15:57 #312254Talkin’ of ‘Dary’…

Daryakana
– Steps Down In Class & Goes Up In Trip

The mare of the Aga Khan, Daryakana, will initially Prix De Pomone (Group II, 2500 meters), Saturday, August 14, 2010 in Deauville. Winner of Group I in 2009 (Hong Kong Vase), it has recently been the law of Harbinger at the King George Stakes at Ascot. She will find within eleven competitors, including the English High Heeled, recent 3rd Coronation Cup, or Pearl Banks, who remains on three wins including two Listed.

Celebration Time!

Drink To The Health Of Goldikova!
Wertheimer and colors …
The Normandy Hotel Deauville has imagination and loves racing. Last creation: a cocktail Goldikova! Blue with a slight white foam, that’s a cocktail that promises to make you relive the excitement of winning the championship. But unlike the exploits of Goldikova, this drink is nice to eat in moderation … Cheers
August 13, 2010 at 11:51 #312574Goldi, Royal Bench and Makfi all in the same race – could be difficult choosing who to back.
Royal Bench likely to be the biggest price but we’ll see, with pacemakers and the 8 runners it looks an each-way dream.
Not long now until my Grand-Steeplechase De Dieppe thread too Zen, will be coming soon to "Big Race Discussions"
