due to my feeling that there might be another ‘Ghanaati’ in the field

That’s one thing I love about the Guineas races – more than most other races, a real surprise can be waiting in the wings, because the winter between 2yo and 3yo seasons can be such a developmental leap.

And trainers can blow hard about what a outstanding horse they have and how the market is completely overpriced, but of course they are only comparing to the rest of their yard (which, by definition, won’t be as progressed as the Guineas prospect), and have no idea how Awzaan/Workforce/etc has also progressed down the road.

well that was a let down from Special Duty, you would have thought she’d have taken care of those readily enough, but not beaten much and I don’t think the winner today will finish in front of her again.
I do hope she comes back from this.

Round one to the Marcel Boussac :)

Zenjah, I think in the past, the Tourbillon has also shown some early season form for the Jockey Club:

Tussian Bere – Battlecat – Sidpour:

As for upcoming races, I think the Astronomie at "SanCloo" tomorrow can also have Alary & Diane indicators:

What was said before the race by Head-M : I am delighted by the way she wintered and the testing ground will be the same for all the runners.

After the race having been a short price fav (albeit drifting): "The filly ran well and the ground was not in her favour."

When you look at the form of ‘Joanna’ she should have been as ill at ease on the testing as ‘Special’ today.

Her only defeat came in Italy to ‘Cool Contest’ on soft bt 2l (on her 2nd start having won her maiden by 6l)

Back on good ground and over the same trip she reversed form with ‘Cool Contest’ beating her 3 1/4l

The performance from ‘Special’ didn’t do anything to allay my fears about trip – also I was under the impression that they would settle her in behind?? – When a trainer talks that game…trip becomes a worry!
As it is if she runs like that – she’s a sitting duck as she was today.

Mare: I doubt we’ll see them race against each other – esp if she doesn’t stay at Newmarket – both will be over different trips…

    But will they?

Soumillon added of Joanna afterwards: "If you are patient with Joanna she should definitely stay a mile in top-class company."

So what did we see today a potential non-stayer beating another?!!

Ole – I’ve added that race thanks!

Think they may to improve a bit – see ‘Tussian’ was beat by ‘Dibir’…
‘Battlecat’ was bt by ‘Maroon Machine’ who runs in the first tomoz…
    Race 7 looks interesting…

Anybody else get on ‘Makfi’ or Joanna?! e/w double to nothing! :D

I’ll check that other race – if there’s anymore Ole – plz drop the line…

Zenjah, it is hard to think that a High Chap won’t get a mile (let alone 12f). I wonder if Soumou’s comment meant patience with regards to the "top-class" rather than patience with regard to the "mile." Although he used the word "stay." Strange…

^…I shall have a look at those later if I get the chance, meanwhile Zenjah:-

..we have a good meeting Sunday at Longchamp too. Anyone got any fancies?
I like Thai Haku to beat On Verra in the Prix Finlande.
Tenacious Spring for the Noailles – a tough one against Laristan and Rewilding, a son of Darara for Fabre – must be one to watch I should think, and Cutlass Bay for the d’Harcourt against old plodder La Boum :)

I put some of the ones that I’ll be watching on p1…

Race 2 the Ferrieres will give some good pointers…

‘Handsome Devil’ – had bt ‘Rewildng’ by a neck
(Ice Blue also in was bt 2.5l that day…
HD was bt 11l – by your pick – ‘Tenacious Spring’!

I’m interested in ‘Planteur’ if only to see how his form with ‘Arasin’ works out – due to him being 9.5l behind ‘Jan Vermeer’

‘Arasin’ also has form with ‘Behkabad’ from two runnings…

Also noticed ‘Ivory Land’ was bt 2 3/4 by ‘Behkabad’…race fitness could play a big part I guess…

Will ‘Rosanara’ have a form boost again from ‘On Verra’?

Looking forward to a good days racing – good luck! :D

1st and 3rd, good work Zenjah, I’m keeping my eye on you :)

Pearl Away and Ice Blue look like others to keep on side for now, especially the colt wouldn’t you say?..
what do you think of their chances for later on?

..I’m not sure about Cutlass Bay, I wasn’t that impressed, at least as far as staying 12f goes.

Re, Pearl Away, I think she may be supplemented by Y de Nicolay perhaps for the Alary, don’t you think? it’s often a weak race these days and I think he’s not afraid to supplement, I seem to recall.

Special Duty – keep the faith :)
