For £15000.00 a month you can rent his property and use the “sulk room” if needed!

I take great pleasure in saving money so, hot on the heels of saving cash on a load of someone else’s trophy junk that would just gather dust, thank you for introducing me to an additional £15,000 monthly saving.

It’s not even 10am this Tuesday morning at and I’m already £180,000 a year better off!

    Result!

I’m a sucker for memorabilia with a bottle of red down me and will have to resist becoming involved in the bidding for the signed Schiaparelli pic – as have a soft spot for the animal having seen him in the days when trained by Peter Schiergen winning the Deutschlandpreis at Duesseldorf (the same day as when Harrington beat Garcia in the Open), and the Preis Von Eurpopa at Cologne. Imposing, powerful looking animal.

I also love a bit of memorabilia but rejoice in finding it at bargain prices. Sadly for my house, there is plenty to be found. Picked up a nice little watercolour of the paddock at Lexington Kentucky in Oxfam today. I am far too mean to get involved in an auction battle, regardless of how many bottles of red I have necked!

That sounds a nice little gem you’ve found and and comes without the baggage of worrying about signatures being authentic ect. Those certificates of authentication don’t prove too much though confidence is increased if they come with a photo of a signing session, and the trader is long standing with no black marks.

However, you do see plenty of dubious stuff out there – I remember seeing what was claimed to be Marc Bolan’s autograph for sale on e bay – the seller supposedly came across it as a mate obtained it while decorating Bolan’s flat!

Friend of mine worked at the local theatre in the late 1960s. One the big names at the time was besieged by screaming girls after his show. He dumped a pile of photos on my mate and his colleague, told them to sign on his behalf and slunk off to his hotel. I daresay some still survive as treasured souvenirs. A few may have even been sold on in good faith!

He has ridden two winners in Hungary today. I remember seeing the course from on high, when I flew home from Budapest:

His farewell tour rolls on to Down Royal on Friday.

It would be interesting to know how much the track is paying him. Listowel wanted him to ride there as well but I believe he has turned them down for not offering enough money to make it worth his time.

Ridiculous greed if so, he could have done his entire ‘farewell (probably) tour’ for free and not exactly been staring at the breadline.

What a shame for those fans who would like to have seen him, without whom he’d never have made a penny from racing.

Yes, and apparently there was an agreement to ride at Listowel last year. However he picked up a ban (in the German Derby as far as I can recall) and couldn’t ride.
This year, I guess, he wanted a bit more and there was no chance to meet somewhere halfway.

His greed seems unlimited right now and I’m quite sure this wasn’t his final year in the saddle. If the money is right he’ll be considering riding in the US or even in places like South Africa.

Personally , I can’t wait for the end of this “farewell tour” nonsense , which is made worse by the insufferable , fawning media coverage. I’m not sure what is worse , this , or the Racing League.

He goes to Down Royal for two rides. Both races worth about 6,000 Euros to the winner. I wonder why he didn’t pick up more rides. Maybe no one wanted him, how about that?

They didn’t go hungry in er Hungary the other week on the European leg. That’s blemished his tour a tad. If you’ve already agreed a fee don’t hold out for more. No ransom paid here then.
Perhaps another imaginary version “ we are fully booked now and we don’t need you frankie, thanks all the same.”
