I wasn’t aware that jockeys could demand appearance money.

There seems to be increasing chat that he may yet do a u-turn.

I think he should go now while the going is good.

3rd and 7th at Down Royal tonight. I wonder how many extra he put on the gate? Otherwise his big fat appearance fee was a bit of a waste of money.

    A thought for Frankie.
Rather than going out ( or God forbid , having second thoughts , and putting us through this nonsense once again ) why not consider this ?.
Consider seeking less attention for yourself and demanding appearance money , and would it not leave you with a greater legacy if you collected all such monies and gave it back to the grassroots of the sport that made you ?.
Give it all to the Injured Jockeys fund , racing welfare charities, and horse welfare issues !.
Any chance that any of the sycophants that make up the racing media ask these questions ?.
We all know the answer !

I’ll make sure I’m doing overtime or watching paint dry that day

As Ricky Lake’s mantra so succinctly stated…

    Life’s sh*t have fun

Ex jockeys flock to this place

‘Long Island has a lot to offer seniors considering their retirement options. The island boasts plentiful art and culture, miles of beautiful beaches, mass transit, world-class health and educational facilities, a diverse economy plus easy access to New York City and major transit hubs.’

If he wants a more kudos home then Sands point is only 35 miles away and yeah upmarket but homes are relatively cheap at 2 mill and baby boomers like him can dip in their pockets, and Frankie Costello the Mafia crime boss lived quite happily on the Island with only the occasional court appearance to interrupt his passion for gardening.

No more of this cr*p as Frankie once complained..

‘As I got older I got pushed out of the kitchen. I got pushed out of the sitting room because, back in the day, my wife wanted to watch Strictly [Come Dancing], my daughter wanted to watch Long Island.’

Frankie apologies you do not qualify as a baby boomer the words just flowed out.
Frankie the crime boss lived happily on the Sands not the Island.

South of Cape Cod is the famous Vineyard and this might be perfect destination for you if you like fish.

“Wish this forum had “like” tags.”

I don’t. Chezza would be whinging because Nathan would have more likes than him.

We’d never hear the end of it.

Chezza would be fuming at Hughesey over this on a daily, maybe even hourly, basis, tbf.

TBF to Frankie , at Budapest last week I saw on you tube the area for flying dismount had a target zone smaller than usual , looked like bit of hard tarmac either side , the horse was positioned well by the strapper and the dismount missed , poles , posts and concrete very well . He still has it .

This ‘farewell tour’ stuff is nauseating and the appearance fee stuff is crass but I will say it again, racing will miss him when he’s gone. The show will go on but there’ll never be another one like him.

“there’ll never be another one like him.”

    I disagree, mon ami.

The world is “developing” into a state where the individual is more important than the majority.

Football is a precursor to this: Messi, Ronaldo, Zlatan et al are more appealing to more people than the clubs for which they played.

The brand of Frankie will be the leading lamp for many others. And, for the bedwetters, racing will continue: there are far more men with fundamental insecurities than petrodollars for it do die.

The monetary figures demanded by Dettori for his aborted Listowel trip have come to light via irishracing.com.

Apparently €4,000 was agreed on by all parties last year when the suspension from Baden-Baden intervened. As was well reported at the time it was agreed that the trip would take place this year. However when Dettori was contacted to confirm details the Listowel executive were informed that the price was now £15,000. If that is sterling (but possibly a typo) that would make it around €17,500.

I presume that is what it cost Down Royal last Friday night.

Thanks for the link. The headline is well chosen. I recall Barney Curley, Dettori’s mentor, trained a horse named My Word Is My Bond.

Another interesting point is the attendance for Irish Champions Weekend. Only 18,000 across the two days, about half the attendance of the Dublin Racing Festival in the depths of winter.

I know the jumps is more popular in Ireland but Leopardstown has got to be disappointed with just 10,000 on Saturday. The event has been going for a few years now but the crowds do not seem to be getting any larger.
