I don’t know if it is just me hence the question.
Who is sick to death about hearing all about him and his last season and his last ride here last ride there.
He should have retired several years ago imo as he as been rather poor overall in the last few years. I know people will disagree but I cannot recall the last horse he won on that should not have won yet I came name many horses that he should have won on but gave them a bad ride and got beat.
The lastest Inspiral today. I didn’t have a bet in the race and personally I avoid what he rides anyway now, but just wondered if it is just me who is sick of it and the sooner he goes the better for me

He picked up a 9 day ban today, so we will not be seeing quite so much of him soon. Unfortunately it means he cannot ride Emily Upjohn in the Eclipse.

I am thoroughly tired of his never ending , attention seeking , Elton John retirement tour.
Unfortunately the ever sycophantic , never investigative , fawning racing media , lap this up.
Thankfully , at the end of the season , it should be over.
Until the boyband – like “reunion” tour materialises !!.

The biggest shock is Frankie didn’t come out with a 2 year retirement plan for everyone to fawn over

    1. There is already quite a bit of discussion of this subject on other threads if you take a look.

    2. No, I’m not “sick to death about hearing all about him and his last season” for the simple reason that I never hear any of it – the racing media can be ignored at the push of a button.

    3. No, I don’t think he “should have retired several years ago” as victories in the 2,000 Guineas and The Oaks this year attest.

    4. I didn’t think there was anything wrong with the ride he gave Inspiral today.

I believe he is riding well this season. The time in Santa Anita looks like it has done him good.

The year long farewell tour is a bit tedious and his attention seeking behaviour after a big win does grate sometimes.

But on balance racing will miss him when he has gone. Whether we like it or not, he is box office, has charisma and is one of the very few racing people who is famous outside of the sport.

I agree with CAS – I find the flying dismounts etc as repetitive and tedious as anyone but I also know there’s a wider picture than the opinion of a 60yo bloke who has been following racing longer than Dettori has even been in the game.

Dettori gives racing something (wide exposure outside the sport itself) no jockey has ever done – not even Lester Piggott – and the sport and industry will miss him when he’s gone.

Racing’s last remaining household name, I do not believe it’ll ever have another one.

Unfortunately I think Dettori has put himself under pressure announcing his retirement so early.
He must have dearly wanted to win that first race at Royal Ascot on Inspiral and follow up with Chaldean in the St. James’s Palace he rode 3 2nd place horses today whilst Ryan Moore booted home 3 winners with hardly a hint of the party that would have been taking place if it had been Frankie Dettori riding his last Super Tuesday at Royal Ascot.
But we still have 4 more days and tomorrow he will definitely ride his first winner.
He has a nice book of 4 rides later today …
Prosperous Voyage and Reach For The Moon have good chances but his best chance Gregory runs in the 5.35 Queen’s Vase.
Pressure probably resulted in Dettori receiving that 9 day riding ban the strain was beginning to show after each horse went down.
He has been a great Ambassador for racing and will be missed. People just go racing to see him and his flying dismounts and apart from the great Lester Piggott he is the best jockey most of us have seen in our racing lifetime.. Jac

One of the second places Dettori rode yesterday had absolutely no chance with the winner and Inspiral has started slowly before.

The only one where I am not convinced he was at his best was Chaldean. He arguably did too much too soon but it looks like Paddington is better than him and would have won anyway.

I think Gregory will win the Vase and take any pressure off.

Dettori’s happy, exuberant persona is a bit of an act. I have seen him at the races where he has been thoroughly miserable all day.

I once overheard two people from the racing media talking about him on a train journey. One of them (who has interviewed him many times) said you had to get him interested, otherwise he could be difficult.

But there is no getting away from the fact he has a glittering CV and the racing public love him. Racing is going to miss him.

    I’m missing him already.
He has been a positive for racing and household names in this sport are few and far between.
Take league for example, Sean Edwards, Ellery Hanley and Martin Offiah are probably among the last British household names the sport has had.
They were gone in the 90s.
His positives far outweigh the negatives.
And, quite rightly, the racing media has run with it for all its worth and will continue to do so and the main media happily follows suit.

I totally agree with CAS – it’s a persona with Dettori adopted for business reasons (it serves him well), as I’ve said before he was nothing like that the one time I met him but he was very polite and not up his own backside, I take as I find and for that reason I’m always inclined to cut him a bit of slack when he is debated.

In short, I think he’s probably an alright bloke – he was with me, anyway, and that’s all I care about.

The early retirement decision and year-long farewell tour will have been another commercial decision, this last year is a big additional pension-pot filler so I wouldn’t be feeling too sorry for him.

I still think he’s a very good jockey, he also had a nightmare Royal Ascot last year, and I’m sure he will turn it around in due course.

If anyone doesn’t like the media coverage of him, switch it off or mute it – simples.

Frankie has raging bi polar disorder*

I used to live next to two Italians and they were always arguing like cat and dog behind the paper thin wall, miserable as pair of old socks from gambles sock draw but as soon as they saw me they would come alive and be the jolly couple and life of the neighborhood. I have that effect on people.. :rose:
Frankie comes to life when he sees a camera. Nobody can be happy at all times and don’t forget Frankie supports Arsenal. Same as McCoy nobody can be miserable at all times and I bet a pound the other decade that Mccoy would one day crack a smile. Still waiting but the betting slip has faded to dust

I met up with a friend (now sadly departed) at York one day and, as we were chatting she suddenly belted off because Dettori was going to do one of his flying dismounts. I didn’t get to see it. Wasn’t particularly bothered at the time but it grates on me a bit now that she, albeit not being anywhere near as interested in racing as I am, was savvy enough to realise he was going to do it and I missed it. A missed racing moment that I’ll never get to see now. I did get to see Nanton in pre parade when it was still in that lovely area with all the trees, though, which I do remember because I loved him…

Meeting you and your dad and Deaf John was another magical racing moment, too! I do wonder if I’ll ever get to Cheltenham again, though #gettingold
