I haven’t checked but I suspect not too many horses have even attempted let alone completed the Royal Lodge/Racing Post Trophy double.
I’m not sure any Royal Lodge winning trainer would be mad enough to ruin their charge by attempting such a crazy "double". Two stiff tests over a mile for a 2yo, with about four weeks between them…. one shudders.
The last three winners of the Doncaster race have been Ibn Khaldun, Crowded House and St Nicholas Abbey, none of which have managed to win a single race since. That doesn’t mean the Trophy should be downgraded, of course!
The Dewhurst is a great race with some very good recent winners like Rock of Gibraltar, New Approach, Sir Percy and Shamardal but I believe it’s pipped by the Post!
List of other Racing Post winners in noughties includes 3 Derby winners, Authorized, Motivator, High Chaparral,
1 French Guineas winner, American Post
1 St Leger winner Brian Boru
3 Dante winners, Dilshaan, Motivator, AuthorizedBy the way Henry himself has done the Royal Lodge/Doncaster double twice with Dunbeath and Hello Gorgeous. Dunbeath was a big disappointment at 3, but Hello Gorgeous showed very smart form at 3, won Dante, 6th Derby (didn’t stay), beaten neck in Eclipse by subsequent King George winner Ela Mana Mou before injury curtailed career.
September 25, 2010 at 09:48 #319194The opposition looks distinctly second rate today with the second favourite having a pretty high head carriage and being beaten in a nursery last time albeit under a dreadful ride from O’Brien. Little concerned about the ground for Frankel. Even though he made his debut on soft ground he looked to relish the quicker surface at Doncaster. Having said that it will be a massive surprise if he doesn’t win.

I’m excited. I’m really excited.
September 25, 2010 at 13:35 #319236Only the most cynical would fail to be impressed. Amazing accelartion, albeit off a muddling pace.

When he went around them I thought my screen had stuttered cause he went so quick.
So happy he’s with Henry cause he’ll make sure he’s ready for the big races next year. Not like some of the other yards who don’t get their horses ready.
That’s a big statement from Henry, best 2 year old in 40 years?
September 25, 2010 at 13:39 #319239WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
September 25, 2010 at 13:44 #319240Other than Arazi and Celtic Swing, I’m struggling to remember a 2yo do anything so impressive. The opposition may not have been the strongest, but anyone who didn’t realise they were watching something special with the way he effortlessly came around the field on the bend should give up the sport.
Really hope he trains on and delighted for Henry Cecil. Great season for Khalid Abdullah too.

Simply outstanding. If he’s to have one more 2yo race it
would be really good to see him in the Dewhurst next so he can at least get a top quality Gr1 on the resume. You never know what will happen at three so grab that birdie now! The future looks very bright though.September 25, 2010 at 13:49 #319242That was worth a first post. Incredible performance, struggling to think of anything more impressive from a 2 yo.

Looks like he could win the Guineas tomorrow which I touched on before. Just hope he’s normal and not just an overdeveloped 2yo that stands still.
If he improves like a your normal 2yo then look out Sea Bird II.
He really could be that good IMO.
September 25, 2010 at 13:50 #319245That was exhilirating. Lucky people at Ascot to see that.
September 25, 2010 at 13:52 #319246Visually very impressive, but come on he beat a very average field.

It was and he didn’t just beat them. He absolutely slaughtered them. When Queally past the finishing line he was probably thinking what to have for dinner tonight.
September 25, 2010 at 14:04 #319250He won as 1/3 fav should, when he beats a decent field I will be convinced, 5/2 for the 2000 next year, you’re having a laugh.

I stopped gambling a month ago. It’s not about the odds for me is about the horse. I just like watching something good and it really was.
September 25, 2010 at 14:13 #319255I enjoy watching proper horses too Phil, I was actually more impressed with White Moonstone than Frankel.

September 25, 2010 at 14:19 #3192573/1 White Moonstone for the Oaks is far worse value than Frankel 5/2 for the 2000 imo.
