Do you think Henry Cecil will run just one or both? Got a bit on WD at 25 to one just wondering if i should cover my bet with a bit on Frankel a 4/1, he looks immense, i guess he’l win if he gets the trip
April 18, 2011 at 03:33 #350869Remember what Vincent used to say "when you have two Derby horses in the yard you have none".I wonder does this apply to Henry?
April 18, 2011 at 07:46 #350877It’s a very similar scenario to the 1993 Derby, isn’t it?
Tenby – an unbeaten Group 1 winner as a juvenile wken nothing could get near him. Impressive winner of the Dante who started The Derby at odds-on, only to finish a well beaten favourite behind stablemate…
Commander In Chief – made his debut as a 3YO in mid-april. Won a couple of minor Conditions races, which didn’t look great on paper at the time. Those he beat included Needle Gun, Oakmead (would finish a close third in Oaks) and Blue Judge (would finish third in The Derby at 150/1).
With Frankel’s inability to settle and his burgeoning tendancy to hang right under pressure, I think he could be vulnerable around Epsom.
World Domination is more stoutly bred and appears a more natural type for The Derby. Hard to know what he beat on Saturday (20/1 stable companion) but he did it well and will clearly improve for the experience.
I would suggest World Domination at this stage, but neither fill me with absoltute confidence. I’d be more interested about Solar Sky for the Leger!
April 18, 2011 at 08:52 #350882For me i cannot see Frankel winning the Derby, he looks too speedy for it but he is however with the right man to get the job done.
I am chuffed the rumours about World Domination were true, admittedly it is difficult to know what he beat BUT to win his debut that well is a nice start and what a price!! Paid for all the ante post bets on him and Carlton House for the Derby and more!
The 2nd Solar Sky ran even more green than his winning stable companion and is also one to take out of the race, once Ian Mongan let him down he picked up very nicely indeed, will obviously come on bundles for the race and could be a very nice type too. Deffo one to back NTO in better class.
World Domination looks a nice type but yet again the bookies have gone OTT with the price knocking him down to 7s and 8s for winning a small maiden! Surely more to do with the yard he is from than his performance so far! Anyway, the 25s ante post will keep us warm for a few weeks yet and hopefully come 4th June i will be shouting home the ‘Workforce’ colours again

Frankel wouldn’t have stayed a mile if he took after his dam, he’s the supertar class act.
What’s all this stamina talk? all the horses laced in stamina come home 10+ seconds after the winner has past the post.
April 26, 2011 at 08:22 #352213Dan: Who has laid you that bet? I keep getting knocked back by the bookies saying it is too early!!
Cheers
April 29, 2011 at 10:30 #352673If they were my horses, I’d put World Domination in the Derby and try Frankel down the route that the great Brigadier Gerard took.
April 29, 2011 at 11:50 #352688Neither. World Domination has no form that I can see and Frankel won’t be suited by Epsom. Seville for me.
April 29, 2011 at 12:15 #352690Seville’s breeding is not dissimilar to that of Soldier of Fortune, Sans Frontieres, Midas Touch, Age of Aquarius, Purple Moon, Alandi + Mahler. Ipso facto, he’ll be too slow. Leger beckons.
April 30, 2011 at 14:15 #18407Well, what did you think of that?
April 30, 2011 at 14:33 #352851Frankel does not win the Derby after that 2000 performance, he will be lucky to get further than 1m, no way 1m4f
April 30, 2011 at 14:35 #352855Went out like a scalded cat and crushed them. At least we now know the horse has no hope of winning a Derby.
April 30, 2011 at 14:42 #352858As far as the Derby is concerned:
I VERY rarely lay horses, but Frankel needs to settle a hell of a lot better than he did today, or in any of his races so far.
I’ve just layed the 5/1.Brilliant mile performance though. Ran them in to the ground. Brilliant, absolutely brilliant. Had he settled could probably have won by further.
Is he in the JULY CUP???
Supplement him!
Might even struggle at a mile now.
Can see Ballydoyle putting in a sprinter pacemaker to go 5f pace next time. The way pacemakers can be used these days, seemingly allowed to run against their own personal chance, just to stop a rival from performing.Value Is EverythingApril 30, 2011 at 14:45 #352859That was truly astonishing. My jaw had dropped after 3 furlongs and coming to the dip, my balls were gone.
I’m a jumps person as a rule and I thought that nothing could excite as much as watching Big Bucks swinging on the bridle but Frankel well and truly blew me away.
As for the Derby, it’s only blind curiosity that makes me want to see him go there but whilst obviously he won’t be able to "Slip Anchor" his rivals given his breeding, the horse has class in abundance which can often carry a horse to the line.
For now, I think it’s best to just saviour the occasion and let the future sort itself out.
April 30, 2011 at 14:46 #352860I would stick him to one mile.
He need time to get over that…i go to the St James Palace now.
The Dante is in 2 weeks isn’t it?….no way could he be anyway near top form for that race.
April 30, 2011 at 14:49 #352861It was the most incredible performance I’ve ever seen in a British classic. I thought Zafonic was immense back in 1993, but that was something else.
He would not get away with that at Epsom, in my opinion, and I still question if he would against the likes of Goldikova, Canford Cliffs and Dick Turpin.
It will be interesting to see where he goes from here.
