I know he’s not a thoroughbred, but the greatest QH sire of all time, First Down Dash, has passed away in California at the age of 26. His offspring have so far won over $73million, with more than 200 of them being black type winners. He traces in the male line to Friar’s Balsam, champion 2-y-o of 1887 (including the Middle Park/Dewhurst double which I understand is to be forbidden in the future) and 1888 Champion Stakes winner.
A quite magnificent physical specimen, as you can see.
