A very nice horse, but I never get carried away after one performance.
Clearly very talented, but will need to improve his jumping to win an RSA, which can also be a rough race. It will represent an entirely different challenge to the one he encountered today.
The battle hardened Punchestowns has shown us what he can do over the bigger obstacles. Seems a natural and has gone well at Cheltenham in the past.
Still, Long Run looks a very exciting prospect.
December 26, 2009 at 14:57 #265582I wouldnt be backing him with that Jockey on Board…..just smacks of a Paddy Mullins Cousin Vinny Job.

Maybe so but I dont remember Cousin Vinny putting in such an impressive performance in the months leading up to Cheltenham?
December 26, 2009 at 15:02 #265585True Halfway but its was a Grade 1 in name only….looks a class animal but cant carry my money with father son combo after beating a load of terribly poor Grade 1 animals.
What race is he planning to go to….hard to believe he is a 4yr old

I think his planning to go to the RSA. Thats the only option unless Nicky wants to go crazy and enter him for the Gold Cup.
He won me over when motoring clear of the field at Autreil in October and since then I couldnt wait for him to come over.
It’d be a great story if we see Long Run turn into one of the greats starting from this day…the day when Kauto became immortal.
December 26, 2009 at 15:31 #265597Looks a really nice horse but he’ll need to improve his jumping a lot to win around Cheltenham. Every reason to believe he will though given it was his first run in England. I’d share the slight reservations about the jockey though.
December 26, 2009 at 15:42 #265604Brilliant performance from Long Run – jumping definitely needs improving but he must have lost a length or two at at least 4 fences today, nothing to suggest his jumping won’t improve with experience over here and he most certainly has a hell of an engine in there.
That’s three Grade 1’s now – so impressive thus far
December 26, 2009 at 16:47 #265637I wouldn’t be too worried about the jockey and he looks to have plenty of potential but I wouldn’t get too carried away just yet. It is sometimes better to take a shorter price nearer the day.
Tazbar has looked pretty slow over fences, Ogee wants better ground and the Nicholl’s horse doesn’t stay. However impressive the winner looked it was probably a weak Grade 1.
December 26, 2009 at 17:10 #265646What price him to take the 2011(*1) King George with Barry Geraghty aboard ?
Connections obviously realised he had a fair bit in hand allowing(*2) Sam W-C to ride……..he’s far from a bad amateur, but a neat professional will tidy up Long Run’s jumping considerably.
(*1) – Kauto wins it again in 2010, of course
(*2) – insisting
December 26, 2009 at 17:18 #265648Monks since his dad is the owner i would imagine Sam will always be riding the horse

Yeah, I realise that……….if it was my son……no, I’m just a hard-hearted b*stard, what’s Geraghty’s number ?
December 26, 2009 at 17:41 #265658Sam Waley-Cohen has ridden plenty of big race winners and is a very capable pilot, but I would intend to agree with those of you who would like to see a professional on top come March.
A lovely looking horse, isn’t he? Gorgous head. Robert Waley-Cohen has a habit of purchasing good looking, Frech-bred bays – his colours certainly do them justice.
Looks very similar to his half-sister, Liberthine.

Have got to love the statements. He was brilliant but needs to improve his jumping

Nice performance but RSA? Would be the first 5 year old in a very very long time and I think Punchestowns would have seen that field off with no problem. Must be a great prospect but I doubt if he’ll be winning the RSA and the bookies once again are taking no chances.
The forgotten horse Mad Max has been schooling brilliantly and runs in the New Year and as I said in an earlier post he’s the one Nicky has said is his future Gold Cup star.
He’s due to run in the New Year and if he hacks up then Nickyis going to have 3 favs in the same race

One problem: None of them have the engine or composure of Mikael D’H and if he heads that way I think he’ll beat the 3 of them. He looks like one of the best prospects seen in years.
December 27, 2009 at 09:10 #265799He might have 3 2nd favs fist after Pandorama hacks up!

I havent forgotten about Mad Max, infact the opposite, looking forward to seeing him run again.
December 27, 2009 at 10:18 #265809Spot on Fist – first five year old since Star De Mohaison
December 27, 2009 at 14:28 #265864Trends are there to be broken though, Fist.
Master Minded was the first 5yo to win the QMCC in a mostly 8yo dominated area. Moscow Flyer won the QMCC at the grand old age of 11.
Since when had a novice gone into the RSA Chase with a build up in it’s career like Long Run? Multiple G1 winner who travels ridiculously well and sees mistakes take nothing out of his rhythm. I’ll agree that his jumping may be his downfall at Cheltenham but it may be his ONLY downfall. A clear run could see him power clear.
It’s all well and good saying Mikael D’Hag is the best thing since sliced bread but he hasn’t even jumped a fence in public yet!
