Preamble – any scousers or broadsheet snobs can forget the sarcasm, I like a bit of fun in a daily occasionally ok?
Insightful betting assistance in the 3 runner listed chase at Warwick today, as The Suns much touted "The Favourite" assures us that down in grade odds-on jolly Balder Success is "one for the short list".
Inspired stuff!
January 11, 2015 at 09:07 #501102Mick Fitzgerald really is the king of talking a lot and saying absolutely sod all.
If there’s one more occasion where he claims that the key to success at (any old course) is "getting into a good rhythm", I swear I won’t be held responsible for my behaviour…
It’s good to have a former jockey as a pundit, and Fitz seems a nice enough fella, but he’s not adding anything now. Clearly they’ve been moulding Sam Thomas and Mattie Batchelor for media things – could either do a better job? Is Andy Thornton waiting in the wings?
January 11, 2015 at 11:15 #501113Aside from the misfortune of possessing a voice best suited to a mime artist, by far the biggest problem with Fitz being on TV is that he has absolutely no sense of humour – or if he does, he suppresses it on air.
As a result, there’s no chemistry with his collegaues, who all end up sounding just as serious, dull and repetitive as he does. He seems incapable of self deprecation, an essential quality in anybody tipping horses in public. There’s no banter, no abilty to get across that this is just a sport, not really that important.
The contrast with Francome is obvious.
January 11, 2015 at 18:38 #501154Everyone has to make a living but how on earth Mick Fitz. is allowed to ‘entertain’ a tv. audience is beyond me.
His droning voice irritates me, his comments about horses chances are a joke and he gives a 4/1 shot a good E/W chance so often.
Mick had many a tumble during his illustrious career but he certainly landed on his feet when he retired from the saddle.

It’s getting on for nineteen years since his "better than sex" quip now. Surely there aren’t people out there still employing him on the basis that that remarks shows he’s a character and a banterer, are there? Are there? Ah.

It’s a curious trait in a jockey that. One would have thought that the prevalence of gallows humour at least was universal in such an occupation.
