Before the 1.20 at Newcastle this afternoon, MIck Fitzgerald gave us an insight into why he is such a renowned and feared racing tipster.
Enzo to Mick: “Mick, quick selection here before we go to Robert”
Mick to Enzo: “I am going to take a bit of a punt here on…..pauses for effect….De Chissler”.
De Chissler was at the time the 7/2 joint favourite. Immediately backed into 3/1 clear favourite – must have been the “Fitzgerald Factor”!
Priceless. You couldn’t make it up. Needless to say the selection was beaten.
December 11, 2014 at 14:42 #498119I think this clearly shows you should never ever listen to jockeys (or trainers, tipsters ,journalists and anyone other than oneself)

To be fair to Mick, he was putting his reputation behind a horse who only had a 22.22…% chance of winning which was a really brave move on his part!
December 11, 2014 at 15:36 #498122Was watching that, laughable really but it’s a lot harder to get off the TV gravy train than get on it.
December 11, 2014 at 15:45 #498124Mick Fitz had a 30 minute slot on ATR at the start of the season about his ten jumpers to follow.
Predictably, we were treated to wild left-field selections such as Sprinter Sacre, Champagne Fever, Vautour and Un De Sceaux.
December 11, 2014 at 16:12 #498128Folks , lets get real
Mick works for the bookie station , they tip losers , that’s what they do

If you watch ATR , or Ruk , please use mute button …it will save you a lot of cash …bet your own opinion , if you dont have one , dont bet …its very simple
Good luck
December 11, 2014 at 16:24 #498130Only connections know if a horse is capable of winning and, more importantly, if the intention is to win. All others are groping in the dark.
December 11, 2014 at 16:49 #498131Why on earth would anyone expect a TV presenter to show a profit by backing horses? He’s a TV presenter, not a professional gambler.
Some other TV presenters who’s tips I wouldn’t follow include Angela Rippon, Bear Grylls and that lefty bloke off Channel Four news.

December 11, 2014 at 17:46 #498137Mick has a long way to go to reach ATR’s "French Racing Expert" Liz Price’s legendary tipping feats.
I got plenty of pelters for criticising Liz, so if she warrants defending I am expecting the same names to come on here and say "Hands off our Michael"
Tipping a horse at 7/2 is a real tightrope walk compared to the supposed "out on a limb" tips Liz puts up.
A prime example was the Prix Morny this year, where Liz Price had a preview where she explained that she was really going to stick her neck out and take on the hotpots, The Wow Signal and Hootenanny, with an each-way bet on Ervedya.
A quick trip over to Oddschecker to see what odds we were getting on this lively outsider revealed that the bookies had him in as the 7/4 favourite for the race! All credit to Liz, he did finish third and at the hearty price of 9/4 into the bargain.
Come on boys, defend our Mick.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

I followed her tips with great enthusiasm on the Morecambe and Wise show back in the 70’s.

December 11, 2014 at 18:15 #498146The delusion affecting punters has remained consistent over generations, despite the obvious fact that anyone who tips for a living cannot be much good at picking winners. It’s a bit like people queuing to take self-defence classes from a man on crutches, covered in bandages and elastoplast.

Sadly, it’s not just her strike-rate that’s gone downhill since then.

December 16, 2014 at 11:03 #498653What Ricky Lake said 100%
I always say to the moosus watch the Morning Line Grand National Day and put a line thru any horse that has a short film about it, any jockey or trainer interview that has a horse involved, any that has the smallest mention and most definitley those with team tips! Generally rules out half the field with the winner still present.

Fair’s fair – she was quite good in Talulah Gosh.

That band passed me by Mr Grayson, but I did note she won The Turner Prize in 2012.
I’m not sure The Turner Prize takes a lot of winning though and I am considering an entry myself next year with a piece of concept art named
Jolly Jobbie Jostling en Jets de Jacuzzi
.
Basically pressurised hot water powered turd racing, this work has drawn mixed criticism from those who have viewed it so far, ranging from:-
"A savage and scathing satire on the corruption within the Racing Industry, strangely hypnotic, yet stomach churning in more than one way" (Pretence In Art Magazine)
to
"It’s just a load of s*it really" (The Racing Post)
Anyway back to ATR’s Liz Price and I was shocked when told she had a Nap at 20/1. Sceptical, I contacted ATR to check it out and was told:-
"Dear Mr Caution, Further to your letter, we can confirm that Liz Price was asleep at 12.40pm"

December 21, 2014 at 11:53 #499130The Specials sang this, for all I know it was about tipsters: It’s all a load of bollocks, and bollocks to it all.
When you spend any amount of time reading this forum, you think: I pity the people whose job it is to sell racing to the public. ROLL UP, ROLL UP! YOU CAN’T WIN, IT MAKES YOU EMBITTERED, MAD AND DEMORALISED, ONLY CONNECTIONS KNOW WHEN A HORSE CAN WIN. IT’S ALL DONE TO DEPRIVE MUGS FROM THEIR MONEY.
