EYECATCHER NOBLE ASSET runs today at Newcastle 2.40 this race is 1f further than his race at Catterick last time out, and he did look like he could be better over slightly further, so one to consider today.

One EYECATCHER for the last week would be the good looking MAJOR CRISPIES trained by J Eustace and ridden by P Hannagan, he was well backed for the class 4 Nursery at York on Sunday 7f going good, badly drawn on the outside he kept on well in the final furlong and was just beaten by 2 lengths, one to consider in similar company.

One other horse to mention at York is the Kevin Ryan GALVANISE, a real EYECATCHER in the paddock, this 2 year old was very unruly in the stalls, so much so i really thought he should have been withdrawn particularly as he was well backed leading up to the off, he ran behind the field and never got into the race, his race was definitely lost in the stalls.

The flat season is winding down now and finding them in the parade ring isnt as easy at this stage of the season. So i will report anything special that i see between now and the end of the season on the flat, but from Tuesday i will be giving more attention to the jumps, visiting two jumps tracks next week.

Today i have 2 EYECATCHERS to mention from the last week and because the flat season for me is winding down im going to do a summary of my selections in my next post.

At Pontefract yesterday, going good, the maiden SOVIET COURAGE, trained by W. Haggas ridden by G. Gibbons, this was a strong looking colt who got hampered at the start, ran green but then ran on in the final furlong, one to consider in similar conditions.

Also at Pontefract a 4 year old caught my eye EVANESCENT trained by J. Quinn, ridden by Robert Winston, this nice looking gelding won impressively as he had done a few days earlier at Ayr, obviously progressive, one to keep on right side of.

EYECATCHER WINNERS FOR THE LAST WEEK:

    HOT STREAK WON 9-2

I always thought that HOT STREAK looked physically like the classic 5f sprinter, and he duly obliged on Saturday returned to 5f, he may run again this Saturday, he is one to consider, and look out for next year.

HEAVENS GUEST WON 9-1 at Ascot on Saturday, this is one of the 3 year olds i flagged up to watch out for.

VENTURA QUEST WON 15/8 at Catterick on Tuesday.

The Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket is of particular interest as 2 of my EYECATCHERS which i flagged up the first time i saw them, are taking part. ASTAIRE AND HOT STREAK, i think they both deserve respect, my opinion is that ASTAIRE has the better chance, as i think the ideal distance for HOT STREAK IS 5f. However they do have some tough competition is Great White Eagle and Supplicant.

EYECATCHER result for Saturday 12th ASTAIRE WON 8-1 and HOT STREAK second at 5-1 in the Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket, as previously mentioned if Hot Streak trains on he is one to follow next year in 5f sprints – physically he looks like the perfect 5f sprinter and he is running as good as he looks and i think there will be more to come from him next year.

Eyecatcher – thanks for your work on this throughout the season. I was delighted to see Astaire win yesterday as I know you’ve been very keen on him. It’s a great feat to have just about 50% of those highlighted go on to win and your comments on best trip/conditions, etc, are really helpful.

One of my EYECATCHERS that i said watch out for when it runs in its first nursery runs today. The David Barron trained FIRECRUISE runs in the 2.10 at Pontefract ridden by R. Winston, maybe worth considering each way, its currently 10-1

Zain Eagle runnning today on Ground and Course in a Class 3. I noted this horse also, as i think is physical capable of entering Group races, so has still a bit in hand on its mark. Is capable of doing very good things but struggled LTO with Chester track+ keeness settling. I think i dont see right with my eyes spotting this horse available 8/1 on Betfair on favoured ground and course in a Class 3 race. Took the price this night already. Only character issues can beat his horse in my view and for this price really not worth thinking about it.

Physical a beast and suited to these straight courses or one for Ascot i thought.

    Cheers The Observer :D

Today at Doncaster one of my strong EYECATCHERS is running in the 3.50, i loved this horse physically when i first saw him, he won at York that day and has since finished second, but has looked green both times, THE GREY GATSBY trained by Kevin Ryan has some tough opposition today and is a huge price of 16-1 but may be worth a little each way as he will like the soft ground.

Welcome to the start of my 2014 reports on maidens and 2 year olds, i am a paddock judge and i will be reporting on horses i see in the paddock that have obvious potential showing physical strength and mental maturity and are most likely to go on to win, last year of all the horses i mentioned 50% went on to win, one of my strongest selections that i flagged up the first time i saw him was Astaire who won the Gimcrack at 5-1 and the Middle Park at 8-1 with another on of my selections second in the Middle Park Hot Streak.

This year i will be listing the horses i see that i think will go on to win, those i think are extra special i will mark with a ** as i did with Astaire, you can make sure you dont miss any by putting them in a tracker system like the one on Attheraces site.

The first one for my list is QUEENS PARK a 3 year old filly trained by John Davies ridden by P.J. McDonald she ran in the Fillies Maiden at Newcastle on Saturday 1m going was recorded as Soft, however jockeys said it was very testing, she is a nice big strong type and i think she will go on to win a race, she looked like she could do with the race and raced prominently and finished 5th.

Another one for the list is DRAGLINE a good looking colt trained by Tim Easterby ridden by David Allen at Redcar on Monday in the 5f Maiden race, going good to soft, he finished down the field having dwelt at the start, but physically looks like a type to go on to win a race.
