Today SLEEPER KING** runs at Mussleburgh a Kevin Ryan horse i was immpressed with physically at York 2 weeks ago runs in the 2.20 also in the race is another horse that i flagged up recently JAQUOTTE DELAHAYE a big strong filly that ran promising at Beverley on her first run.
June 6, 2013 at 21:31 #442009Two eyecatchers won on Saturday the Kevin Ryan trained SLEEPER KING** on my above average list won a Class 2 5f Conditions Race at Mussleburgh at 9-4, he kept on well to win by 2 lengths, he is one to keep an eye on, in the same race another one of my eyecatchers JACQUETTE DELAHAY was a close 3rd at 16-1 she stayed on well but ran green under pressure there could be more to come from her.
Later in the day another one off my eyecatcher list to win was AETNA trained by Mick Easterby ridden by Paul Mulrennan at 5-1 she was dropped in trip to 5f and with ease in the ground at Newcastle she ran strongly and won going away, there may be more to come from her this season.
June 6, 2013 at 21:57 #442010At Catterick May 31st going good to soft, the EYECATCHER of the day was in the 5f 2 year old Maiden, the David Barron trained, Harry Bentley ridden RACE HUNTER, a big strong filly with lots of scope who won kept on strongly to win well, one to consider when running in similar company.
At Newcastle June 1st going Good, the EYECATCHER was DARLING BOYZ a lovely big strong colt, looking well in his coat, with a nice relaxed attitude trained by J. Quinn, ridden by M.O’Connell ran in the 6f 2 year old Maiden, he dwelt at the start, but kept on well in the final furlong beaten less than 2 lengths, one to consider when running in similar company.
Later in the evening at Newcastle in the 1m 2f Maiden the well backed Saeed Bin Saroor colt Inaad ridden by Mikael Barzalona, looked a picture in the paddock, but lost the race by pulling far too hard early on, could do a lot better if he learns to settle.
At Ripon on 4th June going Good/Good to Firm in places,in the 5f 2 year old Maiden the Tim Easterby trained BOUNTY GIRL was my EYECATCHER, a nice strong athletic looking filly who looked like she would need the race, ridden by Duran Fentiman, at 33-1 she ran really well to finish close third, despite her poor draw, i think there could be more to come from her in similar company.
At ripon on 5th June going Good/Good to Firm in places the EYECATCHER of the day was the Mark Johnson trained, Franny Norton ridden, BROUGHTON this 3 year old colt, caught my eye in the paddock as being a nice type, but looked like he would need the race, the fact he won really well suggests there could be more to come from him, so he is one to consider.
June 12, 2013 at 08:41 #442561Three of my eyecatchers are running today, two of them in the same race. In the 2.00 Beverley we have Lady Captain and Porsh Herrik, both physically caught my eye in the paddock on their first runs, however whilst racing Lady Captain has proved to be mentally quirky and very green, that needs to be ironed out before she would have a chance of winning. Porsh Herrick, got badly hampered on his first run, then ran disappointing in his second run at Doncaster, maybe he will do better when he runs in a handicap.
The third eyecatcher is Arr Kid, a big strong type who ran really well at Newcastle first time out, just beaten by a Newmarket raider.
June 16, 2013 at 19:45 #442948Another one of the EYECATCHERS won on Saturday at Mussleburgh, LEXINGTON ROSE, trained by B Smart, ridden by Royston French, won the 5f Conditions stakes, going good to firm priced 11/8.
There are two EYECATCHERS to mention this week that are ones to note when running in similar company.
On Friday the Ed Walker trained, Robert Winston ridden REROUTE caught the eye looking particularly well in the parade ring, looking to have the build of a middle distance horse she ran really well to win the 5f maiden at York on Thursday, she may be worth noting over a slightly longer distance in similar company.
On Saturday at York the EYECATCHER was the Richard Fahey trained, Tony Hamilton ridden RUFFORD in the 6f class 3 Maiden, Rufford looked a class above the rest of the field in the parade ring and travelled strongly and stayed on to win by 3/4length, the going at York was good to firm. He is one to note.
June 18, 2013 at 10:48 #443099The Eyecatcher can’t get online today but has contacted me to ask me to point out that Sleeper King (see above) runs in the Windsor castle at Ascot. Big step up in class but it is one that the Eyecatcher liked a lot.
June 22, 2013 at 09:57 #443639Three EYECATCHERS running today:
JACQUOTTE DELAHAYE – i flagged this nice strong filly up when i saw her run at Beverley first time out, when she chased home the subsequent Windsor Castle second, she is one to note today running at AYR at 4.50.
ADIATOR a really good looking big strong filly who finished 2nd at Redcar first time out, didnt run so well at Beverley, but that track doesnt suit all, so may be worth considering today running again at REDCAR at 5.05.
AETNA another one of the good looking ones ive flagged up another big strong filly i really like, she is up in class today, but may e worth considering if the market is in her favour, being trained by Mick Easterby. she runs at NEWMARKET 4.05.
June 23, 2013 at 09:04 #443757AYR
JACQUOTTE DELAHAYE looked well enough in the preliminaries but faded tamely after racing prominently in the early part of the race. Jockey said she suffered interference and then hung left so it’s possible she got a knock early on.
The winner QUEEN CATRINE accelerated clear like a decent filly in the final furlong, putting daylight between herself and the rest very quickly. I think she can step up in class successfully.

June 25, 2013 at 21:51 #444021The standard of maidens in the last week in the north has been quite low, and the eyecatchers have been few, i feel the maidens in general in the north are quite behind this year because of such a poor spring, i did notice at Pontefract on Sunday for the first time this year that most of the horses were blooming and looking really well in their coats, thanks to a bit of recent sunshine.
At Ripon on Thursday 20th June the maiden EYECATCHER in the parade ring was the John Quinn trained, ridden by M O’Connell, SAKHALIN STAR a really good looking colt, looking well muscled, fit and great in his coat, was not fancied in the betting, finished 4th on his second run, i think he is one to note when he runs in his nursery.
At Pontefract on SUNDAY the EYECATCHER was the Richard Fahey winner DUTCH COURAGE a nice filly who tracked the leaders and stayed on well, i think she is one to note in similar company.
At Thirsk on Monday i had the gift of a 33-1 winner – 56-1 on Betfair, the EYECATCHER in the parade ring ANNOUNCEMENT definitely did not look like a 33-1 shot, she is a nice strong filly who looked very fit and well in her coat, she did go to the post acting a bit green, but chased the leaders and stayed on well to win, she is trained by Karen Tutty and ridden by Barry McHugh.
Another EYECATCHER in the paddock was the David Barron trained FIRECRUISE ridden by Phil Maken, a nice strong looking colt he looked like he could do with a run, and dwelt at the start and never got into the race, but he may be one to note in similar company.
June 30, 2013 at 20:57 #444509At the end of my report im going to highlight and list horses that ive seen that are worth considering when appearing in their first handicap/nursery races. Horses that look the part but havent performed as well as they have looked physically, but horses that could step up once they have their handicap mark.
First of all the EYECATCHERS of the last week are:
KOPKAP a strong looking colt i saw at Carlisle on Wednesday,5f going good, trained by Ed McMahon ridden by Graham Gibbons having his third run he didnt run as well as he physically looked, will be in the Nursery list at the end of this report. At Newcastle on Thursday FOXY CLARETS caught the eye as the pick of the paddock, a nice strong colt trained by Richard Fahey ridden by Tony Hamilton, drawn on the outside, what looked the disadvantaged side, he dwelt at the start chased the group then ran full of promise staying on at the end, one to note next time out or when running at a similar level.
At Newcastle on Saturday there were 3 EYECATCHERS in the same race, the 5f maiden, going good to soft, the race was won by the hot favourite Fast Track, but the three i liked physically were the two Kevin Ryan trained, INSTANT ATTRACTION a nice looking colt ridden by Phil Makin, tried to make all but was overtaken by the favourite, and finished second, i think INSTANT ATTRACTION is one to note when running in similar company.
The other Ryan runner was a filly called PLEASE LET ME GO, ridden by claimer Kevin Stott, she is a nice big strong type, a little green in the preliminaries this was her third run and she kept on well to finish fourth, this being her third maiden run, one to consider when running in a nursery.
The third EYECATCHER was ANOTHER ROYAL, a nice good looking filly trained by Tim Easterby ridden by Robert Winston she ran much better than her previous run at Redcar, and was held up, but then chased leaders to finish third. She is one to note in similar company or when running in her nursery.
EYECATCHER NURSERY/HANDICAP DEBUT LIST SO FAR:
ABSOLUTE DIAMOND – J. QUINN
SAKHALIN STAR – J. QUINN
PLEASE LET ME GO – K. RYAN
KOPKAP – E. MCMAHONJuly 8, 2013 at 13:57 #445120The EYECATCHERS of the week were at Catterick on Wednesday.
In the 5f Fillies Maiden JAMBOREE GIRL trained by Tim Easterby ridden by Duran Fentiman, caught the eye in the paddock and finished strongly to be a close second, definitley one to note when next running in similar company. In the same race BIRKACRE trained by Richard Fahey ridden by Tony Hamilton, was slowly away, then bumped in running and she was just a head behind the second, so another one to consider when running in similar company.
In the next Maiden race of the day over 5f the 4/5 favourite had ran in the Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot and i presume that was why his price was so short, he was not an eyecatcher in the paddock, but the winner REGIMENT trained by Richard Fahey ridden by Tony Hamilton, was a definite EYECATCHER physically, a lovely strong looking type which a nice nature, he made all and stayed on strongly to beat the favourite and defitely one to note when running in similar company.
In the same race the third home STREET BOSS trained by Tim Easterby ridden by Duran Fentiman was a paddock EYECATCHER a nice strong grey, who is improving with every run and may be worth considering when running over further in similar company.
July 9, 2013 at 22:04 #445250On Thursday this week i plan to go through all my eyecatchers to list the maidens that have had their 3 runs to qualify for their handicap marks, so you know to look out for them when they run in their first handicap/nursery.
The first maiden EYECATCHER to run in a handicap runs tomorrow at Catterick at 3.20 over 7f ABSOLUTE DIAMOND, trained by J. Quinn, ridden by Raul Da Silva maybe worth considering if the market speaks in his favour. She is a really nice strong looking filly and has had her 3 maiden runs, and looks physically better than she has shown on the racecourse so far. She is currently 8-1.
July 10, 2013 at 18:58 #445324The first of my EYECATCHERS in the handicap/nursery list won today at 20-1, the J Quinn trained ABSOLUTE DIAMOND ridden by Raul Da Silva, is a filly that i really liked physically from day one, she is a nice big strong type who hadnt ran as good as she looked in her three maidens, today in her first handicap she kept on strongly and won gamely by 2 lengths, she is a one to keep an eye on.
Another one of my previously mentioned EYECATCHERS PORSH HERRICK was second at Catterick today at 22-1 beaten by the Newmarket trained hot favourite Money Team.
Tomorrow the first of my **EYECATCHERS runs in the 2.10 at Newmarket, the Group 2 Portland Place Stakes race, ASTAIRE a really good looking type i liked at York is trained by Kevin Ryan and ridden by Neil Callan.
July 11, 2013 at 11:59 #445387I observe maidens in the parade ring and comment on those that i think have the physical capability to go on and win races, originally i said i would flag them up on the days they were running with comments of their chances, however realising that some of the performances in subsequent maiden races are poorer than they physically look, has prompted me to highlight some of them as winning prospects when they first run in handicap/nurseries. A prime example was ABSOLUTE DIAMOND, who won her first handicap yesterday at 20-1.
In this post im going to review all of my listed horses with pointers, then i will do a separate post giving an updated list of HANDICAP/NURSERY PROSPECTS.

BIRKACRE trained by R. Fahey runs at 1.50 York in a maiden.
BOUNTY GIRL trained by Tim Easterby also runs at 1.50 at York she has finished third each time she has ran, so will have to find improvement to win this maiden.
HESKIN trained by R. Fahey runs in the Nursery at Chester 6.50
INNOCENTLY runs in the Nursery at York 2.55
July 12, 2013 at 08:36 #445449Ive noticed some of the horses i really liked physically as 2 year olds are doing well as 3 year olds, one of them being Pipers Note, a horse i flagged up last year who only ran a couple of times in 2012, he is looking like a progressive horse having won his last two races and is looking like a horse to follow.
Ive made a list of the best ones and will be posting that on Sunday however Ive noticed two of them are running today in the same race.
So i will mention them today.BURNING BLAZE – trained by K. Ryan runs at Newmarket at 3.15
HEAVENS GUEST – trained by R. Fahey, runs in the same race.
