July 13, 2013 at 08:41 #445566EYECATCHERS RUNNING TODAY:
INSTANT ATTRACTION – Hamilton 6.40
July 15, 2013 at 14:18 #445734A couple of horses caught my eye in the 2 year old maiden race at York on Saturday over 6f going good to firm. The main EYECATCHER was the winner THE GREY GATSBY a big strong type trained by K. Ryan ridden by Graham Lee, in rear shaken up, stayed onto lead, although showing some greeness in running, won well. One to follow
I would give THE GREY GATSBY**
In the same race the third home at 20-1 the Richard Fahey VENTURA QUEST, ridden by D. Nolan was a nice looking colt and one to consider in a lesser race than this, the same can be said of ROYAL BANKER who finished fourth, trained by Jedd O’Keefe a nice looking colt who may be worth noting in a lesser race.
July 15, 2013 at 14:42 #445736Im going to list some of my 2 year olds from last year that are getting their act together this year as three year olds.
BONDESIRE – trained by David O’Meara has won 2 out of 4 runs this year one to note as he is slightly progressive
TEETOTAL – trained by Nigel Tinkler who disappointed last year, but has got his act together this year winning twice and only out of the frame once in 9 runs this year, had difficult run last time out, is progressive and one to keep an eye on.
HEAVENS GUEST – trained by Richard Fahey he didnt win until October last year, but has won 3 of his last four this year, a progressive sort on to follow.
PASTUREYES – trained by Scott Dixon, a big strong filly that caught my eye first time out at Ripon last year, then didnt run again until March this year on all weather, then ran very promising at Thirsk back 24th June to finish second in a maiden, thats three maiden runs, and maybe worth considering when runs in a handicap
PIPERS NOTE – trained by Richard Whittaker – a horse i loved as a maiden a big strong type, who is showing to be progressive this year winning his last two races at Ripon, one definitely to follow
July 22, 2013 at 20:47 #446245LADY CAPTAIN WON AT 6/4 she caught my eye on her first outing, but then showed herself to be very immature in running, finally came good on Saturday in the selling race at Ripon ridden by Jamie Spencer he managed to get her across from the most disadvantaged draw to win.
EYECATCHERS for the week are:
LEFT DEFENDER trained by Jo Hughes, ridden by Franny Norton was a nice big strong type in the paddock and out ran his price of 33-1 to come 3rd to the two fancied Newmarket horses, challenging the Haggas horse for second place, this was a 6f Novice Stakes on firm ground, he could be interesting in a nursery. The biggest EYECATCHER of the week for me was the Tim Easterby trained, Adam Carter ridden SEE THE SUN who caught my eye in the paddock having a nice coat and athletic looking, he also outran his price of 40-1, looking full of promise but getting blocked in when running on, and finished 5th, a one to note in similar company, the going was good to firm.
And finally another one for our Nursery/Handicap list is BAR SHY trained by Tim Easterby ridden by Adam Carter, caught my eye in the paddock at Redcar and showed mid race speed, this being his third run in a maiden over 7f on good to firm, he may be worth considering when running in a nursery over a shorter distance.
July 28, 2013 at 16:46 #446746EYECATCHER SAKHALIN STAR finished 2nd @ 9/2 in his first 7f Nursery at Catterick, he was finishing strongly when hampered in the final furlong, one to keep an eye on when running in similar company.
EYECATCHER DUTCH COURAGE WON at 6/5 at Newmarket following being flagged up on this site.
EYECATCHER INNOCENTLY WON a Nursery at York yesterday at 3-1
EYECATCHERS noted in the last week are:
BALTIC FIRE a nice looking colt who caught the eye at Catterick, going good to firm, and looked much better in the paddock than his 50-1 price suggested, trained by Mrs K Burke, ridden by Joey Haynes, he was slowly away, but stayed on strongly to finish a close 3rd in the 7f Nursery, this was a good performance considering he was 14lb wrong in the handicap, one to watch out for.
IL PAPARAZZI trained by Daniel Kuber ridden by Luke Morris, caught the eye in the pre parade ring at York on Friday in the 7f Maiden, going good to firm, a really good looking type, he was very coltish and green in the parade ring, which is usually a big negative, yet he won convincingly, tracking the leaders and keeping on strongly and pulled clear to win by 6lengths, one to note in similar company.
HOT STREAK** trained by Kevin Ryan ridden by Phil Makin caught the eye in the parade ring at York yesterday on his maiden debut over 6f, going good to firm, he was a picture in the parade ring, a big strong sprinter type, very powerfully built, but quite laid back and a bit green, he was held up in the rear, shaken up and driven out to win by 2 1/2lengths,

SEE THE SUN – 3rd at Ripon 9/2 to Ventura Quest, also reported to have hung badly, maybe one to look out for in a nursery.
August 8, 2013 at 16:04 #447848EYECATCHERS of the week:
At Redcar 31st July going good to firm, DUTCH BREEZE who ran in the 6f Maiden caught my eye in the paddock, a nice strong type trained by Tim Easterby ridden by David Allan, the 2 year old colt ran prominently led to final furlong edged right and was beaten just 1/2 length by a Newmarket trained horse. One to consider in similar company.
At Ripon, 6th August, going good, 2yo Maiden over 6f, KENNY THE CAPTAIN caught my eye in the paddock, a nice looking colt looking really good in his coat, but proving to be a little immature in the parade ring, he ran well chasing Ventura Quest home, he is one to consider in nurseries, he is trained by Tim Easterby and was ridden by Duran Fentiman.
Also at Ripon 6th August, going good, in the 1m 2f Maiden a 3 year old colt caught my eye in the parade ring SPIRIT OF RIO, trained by D Barron ridden by G. Gibbons, a lovely looking colt who went on to win by 3 lengths, one to keep an eye on in similar company.
August 10, 2013 at 08:47 #448000TODAYS EYECATCHER RUNNERS:

Made winning debut at Redcar in May and back in the groove when landing Carlisle nursery last month. Improved when taking similar event at York last time, and a possible with a 3lb riseLADY CAPTAIN;
Racing Uk Icard For Today’s Racecards Selling Stakes
More of an impact hooded dropped to selling/claiming company in recent weeks, opening account at Ripon over this trip last month. Ran poorly at Thirsk last week, now fitted with cheekpieces for the first time.ARR KID
Unison’s Ayrshire & Arran Health Branch Handicap
Made a promising start to career when 2¾ lengths second of 7 to Hasheem on debut at Newcastle (1¼m) and unsuited by drop in trip next time. Stiffish task at Pontefract since, his first and best performance was with give in the ground, he then ran on good to firm poorly, today the going is good at Ayr, this is his handicap debut and he is blinkered for the first time.August 18, 2013 at 21:37 #448777I will be flagging up my EYECATCHERS for the last week in my next report on Tuesday.
Just one to keep an eye on in this coming week, THE GREY GATSBY, trained by Kevin Ryan, i was so impressed with this horse at York it is entered in the Acomb Stakes on Wednesday, and The Gimcrack on Saturday.

August 20, 2013 at 10:00 #448897EYECATCHERS OF THE WEEK:
At Pontefract on Sunday going good to firm, in the 1m 3yo Maiden Race, the Mark Johnson trained MAHICAN caught the eye in the parade ring, a nice type physically, ridden by Joe Fanning he ran up with the pace, and fought back well when headed by the Fanshawe favourite, and was only beaten a neck. One to note when running in similar company.
At Thirsk yesterday going good, in the 6f Maiden race, in the paddock two horses caught the eye the Tim Easterby trained THE HOODED CLAW is a really big strong colt, ridden by David Allen he outran his price of 50-1 he led and was headed 1f out beaten 2l by the Given trained favourite, one to note in similar company or nursery races when there is give in the ground. The other horse to catch my eye was the Mrs K Burke trained PURE IMPRESSIONS, ridden by M O’Connell he was green at the start, dwelt, slowly away but kept on strongly in the final furlong, one to consider in similar company.
Another observation i made yesterday was how big and strong the 4 year old BONDI BEACH BOY is, and it made me think that when a horse is in his kind of form, and has such size and strength, the extra weight the handicapper gives them, isnt going to stop them winning, so being aware of the physical size of a horse may be an important factor when it goes up in weight. I will flag up on this site any other particularly strong progressive horses that i come across.
Another horse ive seen recently that i think will be winning again is the 4 year old, David O’Meara trained MORROCO.

August 26, 2013 at 19:20 #449576My EYECATCHER of the week ran at Ripon today in the 3-4year old maiden race, 1m going good. The Gerard Butler trained ZAIN EAGLE, looked a picture in the parade ring, a big strong colt looking well in his coat, made all, clear 1 furlong out, unchallenged kept on strongly to win by an impressive 9 lengths, although not a strong maiden, i suspect this colt will go on to do better things.
On the theme of big strong horses being less affected by increases of weight, another one to note is DUTCH ROSE, a huge well built filly who won at York during the week.
Later in the week i will be posting an upto date list of results and comments on horses previously listed, and those yet to run.
