Thanks for the memories.
A favourite of mine, and an absolute beautiful looking horse too.
RIP.
April 2, 2009 at 19:43 #219787A horrible shock, and so sad. Heart attack. Such a good horse, given some wonderful races.
Fingers crossed Denman news is good, and he was the one giving most concern initially…April 2, 2009 at 19:56 #219797Have got a photo of him that I kept from The Observer; I always tend to notice the cheekpieces more than the horse, but this particular photo showed him jumping, and it suddenly struck me how beautiful he was. Still can’t quite believe what has happened; condolences to all connections. r.i.p. Exotic Dancer.

April 2, 2009 at 20:32 #219818So sad to hear the awful news about poor Exotic Dancer. He was a great racehorse and always there in the big races and I am going to miss him next season. Condolenses to all connections. What an awful first day it has been what with this as well as poor Denmans fall as well as the loss of Mel in Blue in the Foxhunters. Lets hope that things get better for the rest of the meeting.
April 2, 2009 at 20:55 #219826Terrible news
An absolute tragedy that this horse is no longer with us.
RIP

April 2, 2009 at 21:50 #219840Just read the sad news. Condolences to connections. The flagship of Jonjo O’Neill’s yard and a fine, consistent chaser who was unfortunate in his timing in terms of the competition he was up against.
April 2, 2009 at 22:41 #219853I’ve been following this sport long enough to accept most fatalities, but such an unexpected tragedy is a hard pill to swallow.
Pegwell Bay was my first memory of a horse losing its life and, as a ten year old, it was hard to understand.
This is awful news and very hard to believe. He was a beautiful horse and had the ability to go with it.
The memories will never die.

April 3, 2009 at 21:35 #220049First time I’ve tried this – if it works here’s a link to a photo of Exotic and his devoted lass taken yesterday at Aintree. Exotic always easily picked out by his sheepskin pieces and ear plus. RIP lovely lad.
April 3, 2009 at 22:09 #220057Condolences to connections. Type of horse that makes racing such a pleasure and, unfortunately, the type of outcome that highlights the other side of the game.
April 4, 2009 at 11:02 #220182Irony is that he is the most recognisable horse appearing in the BBC’s intro leaping towards the camera over a city scape. Sad reminder.
April 4, 2009 at 21:25 #220316I left the course on Thursday unaware that he had died and only found out when I watched the BBC coverage later.
A terrible shock.
ED had the misfortune to be around at the same time as Kauto Star and Denman or he may have won even more top races than he did.
RIP Exotic Dancer.
September 2, 2009 at 23:12 #246814First time I’ve come on to the memorials forum.
This was one of my favourite racehorses. I’ll never forget the titanic battle he had with Kauto at Haydock. I’ve never been happier to see a horse win than when he won the Lexus, he deserved that Grade 1 win. If Kauto Star hadn’t been around he would have had a Gold Cup and a couple of King Georges to his name aswell. He was just one of those horses that catches your eye. Big furries on him, always tanking along out the back. So sad he has passed on
October 9, 2009 at 18:44 #252630Remember listening in the Ikea car park to a live radio commentary of Dancer winning a good chase at Cheltenham 18 months before his first silver medal behind Kauto in the 2007 Gold Cup. This commentary led my missus to have an interest in racing especially jumping and Exotic Dancer. We’ve seen him at Cheltenham twice and though not one of my favourites I enjoyed the joy the said missus got from seeing him in the paddock and on course.
Now she cant bear to watch replays of Kauto’s win this year with Dancer in the field after his demise at Aintree but she takes heart out of Jonjo’s description of how Dancer passed away. He’ll be sorely missed as we approach this new season but its good to see that this memorial is still on the first page which shows how many racing enthusiasts feel about him so long after his death.
RIP Exotic Thanks for the memories
February 24, 2010 at 23:03 #278934I got into racing – as in PROPERLY into racing – last year, when I scooped the Tricast in the Gold Cup.
Watching the Racing Post highlights reel, seeing Exotic Dancer’s last race made my eyes well up – and I can be a pretty cold person.
Thank you, Exotic Dancer. Thank you.
