Seems to be running a stone or two below it’s actual OR. Is this because:

    a) they have nothing more to give since Willie has squeezed the maxiumum out of them

    b) the races in GB are more competitive than the ones in IRE, so winning first time out is more difficult

    c) they are fed differently? What feeding might mean

    Any thoughts???

They’ve not long been moved into another country with unfamiliar surroundings and brand new training regimes (to a degree). That said, you’d be hard pressed to be able to improve a horse that’s left Willie’s yard.

Laurina i gave up on a good while ago, time for her to make some (expensive) babies. Real Steel travelled well enough and was beaten by a rapidly improving horse. He’ll win a good pot at some point for Nicholls.

What a performance from Yorkhill today, ridden by Ryan Mania, romping home at 66/1. :yahoo: for new trainer Sandy Thomson.

How many of us looked down that list of runners and thought…
oh yes Yorkhill he used to be a good horse back in the day…
then moved on to back the favourite or something else.

Well done Yorkhill you made the change and became one of the few to thrive. :rose: Jac

The point is with big yards like Mullins , Nicholls etc there always looking for the next big thing so theses older horses that have lost their way maybe don’t get the time/changes to the regime to reignite the flame , when they do leave the yard it’s important they go to the right yard , JP sends these types to Ben Haslam , the late Peter Montieth use to get these types from the late David Johnson , they tend to get them to a winnable mark at some point , Thomson said yesterday he used Harry the Viking as the model for turning Yorkhill around , at 10 I’m sure he can win more races plus he still has voix de reve and bellshill as works in progress , plenty of people will have see what he did yesterday and I’m sure the quality of horse in his yard will continue to improve , let’s face it this is how a certain Mr Elliott got going

Voux du Reve ran a nice race in the Fighting Fifth. I think he’s happier over hurdles

GG both he and bellshill were both thrown into the deep end first time out , I’m still trying to find what there goals are , at a guess I think Bellshill will be aimed at the Scottish national , the goal for Yorkhill was the Scot nat meeting but if he was mine after sat I’d be aiming a bit higher , voix maybe scot champion hurdle , I’d say he,d have a chance in that

66/1 was too huge to be missed, which I still didn’t take. I mean we are not talking about a G1 race at Leopardstown or Fairyhouse, but about a 10 runner handicap at Newcastle.
Plus there is the fantastic stable form (about 10 winners from its last 50 runners and many more collecting prize-money) and a very shrewd trainer who does extremely well with his chasers.

Well done to all the winners and to it’s connections. There is one nice piece of video on twitter showing a young lady screaming him home inside the final furlong. That’s what racing is all about, especially during the lockdown. So, more of that, please.

Now that two days have passed, I can say well done to Yorkhill and Sandy Thomson for a great piece of training.

It was not so much fun at the time for anyone who was on Whatmore, had the chance to cash out for a guaranteed profit but thought “There is no way Yorkhill is going to stay in front of him”.
