“Eurovision addicts are in denial about this but, if political sympathy is still as strong, it really doesn’t matter what the quality of the opposition is because Ukraine will win again.”

I agree. This is the same strategy that’s being employed in ‘TRF Poem of the Year 2023’ That’s why Chezza and Ghost aren’t getting into the final

Chezza and Ghost cynically placed in a Group of Death with the organiser, Hughesey, rumoured to be using malware to administer the competition, Ben clearly on the Magic Carrots, it’s simply a political plot to remove Chezza and Ghost at the Group stages and illustrates TRF Poem Of The Year is even more political than Eurovision!

Sweden have overtaken Ukraine as favourite

    I prefer Finland myself

I’m not sure I can find the right adjectives for the Finnish entry, but will go with “amazing”. It’s not an obvious choice for the juries, but Finland have form for unconventional winners with Lordi.

I assume Sweden is favourite now due to Loreen’s song, even though it hasn’t been selected yet. It’s another strong contender.

The depth of Ukraine’s sympathy vote is likely to depend on whether there are any major new developments in the conflict. Unlike last year, they remain far from a certainty for me at this stage.

I’m not sure if escalation would have any impact.

As stated, Eurovision has always been quite political (and religious too – Roman Catholic countries voting for one another too) and last year the whole thing was completely hijacked to make a political statement.

If the same sentiment is there, you are wasting your time, listening to the other songs, but if the mood is that the statement has been made, back to the music, Ukraine become a place lay, they won’t even get close.

It should go back to being about the music again and judged on merit (as much as it realistically can be). As Chezza says, the statement was made last year. Putin is not going to put his rockets away because they keep winning Eurovision.

My guess is that it (surprise surprise) will be somewhere between the two. They’ll probably still get a ‘polling bounce’ and do well, a victory remains possible but a landslide is very unlikely.

Fair comment, it’s not as if all participating countries will make a collective decision on this – last year was a one-off when they pretty much all united.

Chezza will be voting for The Biscuit Republic and their catchy number “Save All Your Hob Nobs For Me,” sang by the rather cute Foxia Ginger de la Crema.

I am relying on “The House Of Nathan” to name the winner while still odds against.

    No pressure!

I’m not that keen on the Swedish song
But my son is into Eurovision like Chezza is into hobnobs and he told me they will win when the song came out

I’ve done Finland each way at bigger odds than they are at the moment

Norway each way at shorter odds than they currently are

Chezza means no offence – Chezza NEVER means offence – but Chezza would rather bet based on the advice of “Son Of Hughesey” than on what Hughesey thinks.

If memory serves, “Son Of” has the better overall Eurovision track record!

Very wise Ian.. he has already told me off for going off radar with those each ways.

By the way it’s almost impossible to offend me. for starters I have no sense, no feelings and am not into the latest fashion of being offended by everything I don’t agree with.
Mother must have known I was backward as she always said don’t worry what everyone else says or does you are your own person.
