I agree that Nuno Gomez and Simao are the weak link Firefox.
Therefore do you think there is an arguement for Scolari to adopt a system similar to Man Utd and just play any three from Ronaldo, Deco, Nani and Quaresma across the front? Let them play where they like, pull defenders all over the place etc, just like Ronaldo, Tevez and Rooney do at United.

June 11, 2008 at 20:07 #167878Portugal starting 11 are very good but apart from that they have little on bench Firefox i dont see how Nani & co add depth to their squad, Nani for me is not up the standard required to win this comp (yet) Nuno Gomes up front is and has never been top class if they had something better they would be playing them, i couldnt believe BBC pundits the other day raving about Portugal very surprising IMO
June 11, 2008 at 23:28 #167905Portugal looked very leaky at the back tonight

they remind me of spain look very good going forward but not great at back still think its Germany’s to lose unless Italy France turn things around but cant see that happing…….
June 16, 2008 at 16:28 #168572Wish I’d got in on the Euro2008 banter sooner.
I think Croatia will still struggle because they miss Eduardo. They still have quality, but he was key to the bigger games.
I feel Holland are the best team. Yes, their defence is a lil’ suspect, but I think their creative players and the pace at which they can break will see them as champs.
Italy will not qualify from their group.
David Villa is bloody odds on to be top scorer! I know 5 goals is usually enough to get the golden boot (or wahtever it’s called in the Euro’s) – but odds on!!

I think they should just give it to him now!

well shows ya what i know!!!

I think it’s going to be a Croatia V Holland final (pocket speaking) with Croatia to win (More Pocket speaking) and for insurance Spain to win
June 22, 2008 at 13:16 #169734How impressive were Russia last night, no wonder England could’nt get past them even with a man down they looked most likely to score on a few occasion’s in extra time. Roman Pavluyochenko was also very sharp upfront and i would’nt be surprised in the slightest if a bigger european club try to sign him from Spartak Moscow.

June 22, 2008 at 13:49 #169740Agreed. Russia played some very good passing football. It would be good to see Hiddink managing a Premiership side.
PeteJune 22, 2008 at 14:30 #169747For me there were two massive overreactions during this tournament.
The first was to Holland’s impressive group victories, which saw them cut from pre-tournament prices of around 14/1 to favourites.
The second overreaction was to Germany’s loss to Croatia. Like I’ve already said, this result changed absolutely nothing and suddenly Germany were around 7/1. If Germany finished top, they would probably have met Portgual in the semis, but because they lost to Croatia they met Portugal in the quarters. Absolutely nothing changed other than when they played Portugal.
And now, with Germany beating Portugal (and looking good in the progress), and due to face Turkey in the semi-final, that 7/1 looks absolutely massive (generally 6/4 now).
The group stages are about feeling your way into the tournament and qualifying any way you can. Germany did that, and now look good. I wouldn’t be surprised if I’m saying the same thing about Italy after tonight’s game.

June 22, 2008 at 15:18 #169750Pavlyuchenko and Arsivin (sorry if spelling wrong) have been revelations. It’s not often that players from Eastern Europe excel when they come to the UK but I’d love to see these two playing over here, they’d grace any side.

it’s interesting how the first three quarter finals went the way of the teams qualifying in second place with the group winners Portugal, Holland and Croatia all resting players in their last group games but still going out.

June 23, 2008 at 10:25 #169812i backed Russia, Turkey & Spain to win (did a few different bets) but i thought i was backing these teams to win regardless if they went to extra time as you can guess Paddy power only going "the 90mins" on them would have paid very nice on this Treble my own fault for not looking properly but still pissed off
June 23, 2008 at 14:04 #169836A few observations on last night:
1. I’m delighted that the shower of "10 men behind the ball and leave our one crap "striker" up front on his own to dive and whine whenever the ball goes near him" Italy went home. Unbelievably negative football. Where are all their forwards and classy midfielders. Has Italian football’s defensive attitude finally imploded.
2. Spain didn’t look any great shakes and the way Russia have been playing since Arshavin got on the pitch, any Spanish outright backers must be very jittery. Villa and Torres were absolutely terrible with neither looking remotely interested. Russia are 3/1 to beat Spain in 90 minutes!
3. The cynical way the Italians went down and stayed down while Spain had the ball needs to be punished by the referee not letting the "injured" player back on for a few minutes. This will nip this rubbish in the bud.

June 27, 2008 at 19:46 #170405Looks a wide open competition imo wouldnt be surprised if someone like Greece went and won it again.
But im going for a Spain vs Germany final.
With Spain and the Legend that is Fernando Torres going onto lift the trophy

Hate to say it but i told you all
June 27, 2008 at 21:22 #170414But will you get the winner Danny?
I hope you do as the Germans have been largely uninspiring.
