Great start for Villa – I was warned

Mike
Damn internet went down on me before I could post that

Lol David.
If you can’t laugh at yourself who can you laugh at? I thought I was sitting pretty (I still am I guess) when Podolski scored a brace – then along comes Villa for you guys with his hat-trick, I think half the forum is on

I just hope he keeps scoring for you all. Good luck.

June 11, 2008 at 12:17 #167804Thanks Mike and good luck with Podolski.
and thanks David for bringing it to attention.
As I mentioned earlier in the thread I was all set to back Spain at a general 11/2 but decided that if they do as well as expected then Vi*la @ the price was the value.
Unfortunately I missed the boat with the 20’s but managed 18’s with Joe.
Long way to go yet but fingers crossed and all that…

June 12, 2008 at 20:41 #168079Amazed to see that he’s trading @ 6/4 on BF. 11/8 with Corals and haven’t checked any others.
Can’t believe people are prepared to back him at that price.
The idea was a bet to keep the interest going throughout the tournament but the sensible side of me is saying hedge and ensure a c. 13/2 winner – before Podolski scores another couple this evening.
Tough choice

June 13, 2008 at 13:25 #168216There is a (unconfirmed) rumour that Podolski could miss the game against Austria due to injury
June 26, 2008 at 10:33 #170158After a sleepless night haunted by nightmares of Pavlyuchenko scoring 4 tonight, I have laid off some of my bet on Villa and also had a small bet on Pavlyuchenko so fingers crossed they both get a hatful this evening.
I’m still prepared to take on Podolski und freunds altogether but if neither of my players score tonight, I may have to just trade out entirely so I can enjoy the final and not have to sweat it out.
June 26, 2008 at 11:38 #170172Stupidly / Bravely* I didn’t lay any off but I was sweating like a pig watching the Spain v Italy game, especially as he drifted to a shade above evens in extra time.
Much like yourself though, in an attempt to remove some of the pain in future I scoured the internet yesterday for betting sites that I don’t already have an account with. Only use one or two in the main but have used up free offers all over the show in the past

Found one so backed Podolski yesterday at 9/2 and with the 100% next day bonus offer put it on Pavlyuchenko this morning.
If either win it will only soften the blow slightly as bar far and away my biggest win still comes from Vil*a.
Most likely outcome if he fails is a tie I think but obviously hoping Spain make it through tonight.
Currently 1/2 on Betfair.

June 27, 2008 at 08:43 #170298David Villa will miss the final through injury
June 27, 2008 at 09:20 #170307I know mate they announced it straight after the game last night. Went on to Betfair and noticed that he’d shortened (now 1.4 to lay) – obviously due to Pavlyuchenko going out.
It would take a hat trick from one of Ballack, Sweinsteiger or Klose to stop me collecting, of course a brace from any of them would mean a dead heat and if Podolski was to win it outright it wouldn’t be so profitable but still sitting pretty smug.
As a spectacle though, gutted that Villa will be missing.

June 27, 2008 at 12:00 #170339Villa missing the final game has certainly made the Golden Boot an interesting betting heat again.
Villa is one clear, as we know, but will miss the final.
Podolski is on three, Klose, Ballack, Schweinsteiger and Guiza are on two – all should play in the final.
Klose is available at 29 on BF, which is effectively the price for him to score an hat-trick (as that’s what he would need to win outright), but you can get similar odds on BF for the final to have an hat-trick (by any player) and then you get the other 19 outfield players also.
Podolski is trading around the 5.8 mark. Ask yourself, is around 5/1 for Podolski to score two goals decent odds? If he was to score one goal, and finish joint top, you would get 2.9 for your money (based on the current 5.8 quote), but you would also be sweating on any of the other players on two goals not scoring another two goals, thus reducing your payout.
Ballack is currently trading around 40 on Betfair, and I’ve had a small punt on that. Yes he would need an hat-trick to win outright, but I’m thinking more of him getting two goals and sharing the prize with Villa, and me getting paid out on half my stake – effectively odds of around 20 for my money. He takes the penalties, but remember if he were to score two goals, you need Podolski to score none to prevent it being a three way tie.
All in all, it should be a no bet market now, but the fact that I’ve already backed Podolski and Klose from the outset, backing Ballack just adds to my options. What I do need is Germany to score goals – that’s your cue to go and grab a Spain clean sheet at odds of around 2.68

Good luck.

June 30, 2008 at 21:12 #171044My main bet for this tournament will be on David Villa (20/1 with BetFred), whose price is being held up somewhat by the Premiership bias towards Fernando Torres. I’ll also have small interest bets on Jan Koller (61.18% SR) and Milan Baros (52.54% SR) as I think the Czechs will do OK in this competition and they owe me nothing from the last time.
Well done David, i always had Villa in mind but your thread got me motivated into putting a small bet on the guy so cheers.

June 30, 2008 at 21:36 #171047Well done those who punted Villa and put him up on here. Good stuff guys.
June 30, 2008 at 23:02 #171062Thanks Nathan
I laid Villa off for a free bet after he scored against Sweden, then I backed Pavlyuchenko after the first semi-final because I could only see him catching Villa. I then traded out entirely for a guaranteed 10/1 profit win-or-lose when Villa was ruled out of the final. Wanted to enjoy the final instead of stressing about it.
Very strange the way it worked out with both Villa & Podolski failing to add to their tallies after only 2 games. Don’t ever remember that happening before.
The opposite happened in 1982 with Paolo Rossi scoring his 6 goals in the last 3 matches. You would have got 1000/1 on him on Betfair if the exchange was around then!
July 1, 2008 at 10:59 #171133Why oh why didnt I see this thread until now???

Good stuff DB and NH.
