What a superstar – 13 years old – flying the last and then sprinting up the Sandown hill – wonderful sight!!! Well done to all concerned!
February 5, 2011 at 16:10 #339143Wonderful win from a fantastic horse who just loves Sandown – and a great ride from Leighton Aspell, considering Eric’s went off slowly and wasn’t able to do his usual front-running.

Just seen a replay of the race, and on seeing in on Channel 4 I didn’t realise what a bad mistake Eric’s made at the second fence – and also how far back he was at four out with other horses running really well. Hats off to Mr Aspell!

February 5, 2011 at 18:31 #339157Yes – as they approached the pond fence I thought Eric’s Charm had run his race – how wrong was that?!
February 6, 2011 at 01:05 #339194You’d have to have a heart of formica not to have been moved by that performance. As with Monkerhostin’s in the same race last year, one of the real highlights of the season. It was gained off the second highest mark he’s ever defied, too.
The erstwhile Whitbread is the logical endstation for him this term, I suppose, but at the same time I’d not be too disappointed if connections opted to call time at this stage, with retribution from the assessor just as likely to cost him any further winning chances for the remainder of this term.
Either way, smashing horse, superb result. Thank you from the depths of our hearts, Eric’s Charm.

February 6, 2011 at 08:52 #339209A reet gradely result
I too rather hope the swan has sung his sweet song and Eric’s Charm now heads for the long grass
Doncha just lurv these old chasers
February 6, 2011 at 11:34 #339225Just watched the RUK replay & interview with Oliver Sherwood. He said that Leighton gets on better with EC than Dominic. Leighton must get on better with all OS’s horses as he appears to have dropped Dominic like a lump of lead following return from injury. So much for loyalty!!!
Must admit it was a great ride from Leighton & well done EC.
Thought he was going to fall at second & well picked up by Leighton.
Trust there are more wins.February 9, 2011 at 00:33 #339561Just saw these posts, can only echo sentiments here too. THIS is what racing is all about. Or should be.
Gutted I was not there, just love him. Really pleased for him.
The yard have started a little group for him on facebook if anyone is interested. It’s full of pics of him and the lads write updates on him.
I’m not sure when/where he goes next but might run in the National. As much as I applaud keeping the old ones going I am going to have a heart attack if they send him there again.
February 9, 2011 at 06:44 #339565Don’t suppose you have the facebook link? Ta.

It’s ok – he hasn’t been entered for Aintree.
February 16, 2011 at 18:23 #340921I’m sooooo happy he goes to Sandown instead. I hope the ground will be soft for him.
I’m going, at least I can be there to cheer him on, might be his last race.
