“True Wilts but when did we last have a quality derby ?”

If you’re a punter rather than a racing purist (so to speak) it’s all about the winnings.
Obviously, peeps can be both in equal measures, but if i was on at 66s and 100s i’d be absolutely cock-a-hoop and wouldnt give a flying fig about the race quality.

“Well … that was a bit of an anti-climax.”

Not everyone will agree with you on that ;o)

At some point after 10+ races youd think the jockeys would have learned, goto the front. Even if your mount isnt a front runner, just get up there early.

Ridiculous riding made for a silly result

I wont write it off as a bad derby as theres plenty of good horses in there

But jesus lads, ride to how the track is riding

Seventeen jockeys shouting from halfway “go Wayne you’ve got this”.

The more I know the less I understand.

As i mentioned a few mins ago it’s not like the jockeys havent seen how the track has been riding over last 2 days.

Why let him go so early, without getting closer early on? the winner was 3rd fav at the off!!

Kevin Blake tipped the tricast this morn on ITV.
Coral have said they’ve lost over £1m on the tricast.

Just watched the replay and New Ground (French Juddmonte colours) has run an incredible race to finish 4th, pulling like nobodies business early on the outside and ended up one place in front of Delacroix at the back and was still pulling just before they started down the hill.

He also had his head to one side all the way up the straight but was still running on really well at the finish, he must have been 10-12L off the leader turning in, so he can be marked up for that effort.

Not that easy today as it was a race for a relentless galloper not necessarily for a fast horse with a turn of foot. If they tried to do what you said they’d be potentially beaten further, running out of gas.

Yes LD happy with the 4th at 50s.
Might have a punt on The Arc now.

Edit: New Ground – Just taken the 55s each way, with Lads :good:

Look at the jostling that took place when they were crossing over from the right to the left running rail after the first 100 yards or so, many of the jockeys were trying to sit handy and that was where Delacroix lost any chance as he got shuffled right to the back.

I think the jockeys all knew it paid to be handy but there was only so much room and with a big field like that, clearly most weren’t able to get the position they wanted.

I’d be a bit wary of an Arc bet on the winner. AOB has a fair few others in mind for that. My guess it’ll be Doncaster Leger after a possible run in the Irish Derby.

I’d say you’ll have to take the ground into consideration punting wise going forward to , it may well a good decision by Appleby to pull his horse in the long term

WD winners. Its such an overrated race now the Derby. Half of them in there today will do well to win a class 3 handicap. That’s not a judgement on the race itself more a judgement on the field before the race. Got a 3 year old colt you haven’t gelded yet? Chuck them in.

Look on the bright side – There could be a decent Curragh Derby this year with all those reputations to be repaired

When I watch the derbies of the 70s/80s then compare it to the recent fare then its night and day , sadly now it’s all about how much they can make off breeding , let’s be brutal that’s what coolmore is all about ….
