Derab got stuffed by Snow Lantern, who subsequently got stuffed in a fillies listed race. He’s no Derby horse.

Ttc snow lantern obviously didn’t run any kind of race today

She pulled too hard and didnt give anything like her proper running

Derab likely won’t run in the Derby, its not usually gosdens style to overface a horse

He may still be very good though as he gains experience as he wasn’t very streetwise in either of his first 2 runs

Derby horses don’t have excuses. Save Workforces slipped saddle.

Yes he may well be a decent older horse, who knows.

There’s no chance Derab goes to Epsom I’d say, its 3 weeks away and he’s not gone beyond a mile yet. I think if they were serious about Epsom they’d have sent him for a trial or at least stepped him up in trip for his next start, the fact they’ve kept him to a mile and relatively calmer waters suggests he’ll be a long-term project. In fact looking at the post-race quotes from Gosden you’d want that 16/1 he was cut to just to turn up, Gosden hasn’t even said they’ll definitely be going to 10F next time and they are talking more about the Hampton Court.

Why does Hurricane Lane get no love? Is it because he isn’t winning by 5 lengths? He’s undefeated in 3 races and has looked fast, like he stays and has a winning attitude, he’s even still a very generous price considering he won the Dante!

I’m not sure about love Ben but he certainly warrants a lot of respect he’s the leading contender from these shores that is for sure, he’s uncomplicated in terms of tactics, should stay the trip and handle the track and his form is pretty solid and got another boost just now with Tasman Bay running a nice race in Listed company. I think above all else he’s mature and ready for the challenge mentally which a few might not be.

AGreed mate, he could well get beaten by something that’s a bit special but I feel hes a solid enough yardstick!

Gutted for Hollie, she was very hopeful of getting the John Leeper ride in the Derby. Rubbish decision by connections, in my opinion.

Mike, I’m not sure about that.

Jim Bolger said that Mac Swiney was found to have had a respiratory infection following the Derrinstown. Therefore, I would put a line through Mac Swiney’s running that day.

You saw the real Mac Swiney today.

Mac Swiney given an RPR of 119 for today’s win.

Based on RPRs he is the highest rated horse entered in the race.

I think to be honest you cannot anything from that race regards the derby unless it’s very soft at Epsom. Only the front two really handled the ground and Van Gogh was paddling by the end. On good ground the derby is between the two of aidens and hurricane lane imho. All about opinions but the first two need the soft going to have a chance.

All about opinions but the first two need the soft going to have a chance. ^^

The second won the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket on fast ground, he doesn’t need soft going.

The third; Van Gogh won a group 1 in France on heavy ground, so he’s proven in the past he can be very competitive on soft ground.

Mac Swiney wouldnt have beaten Bolshoi Ballet i dont think as he is a testing ground horse. A soft ground Derby and he would come into it.

Mac Swiney goes from being beaten by a 98 rated horse needing 2m to winning a 2000G and Mike’s claiming a formboost. Love it :yahoo:
